They fixed two different tire issues, one that was created by another chain stores mechanic. They were very nice through the whole process from start to finish,and very reasonable. My experience as a customer of Chippewa Tire was an extremely negative one. I dropped my car off there by accident one evening after they had closed. I intended to drop it off at a different place where I had already made arrangements to have a door handle replaced. I was confused about the cross street and left it at Chippewa Tire by accident. When I called the correct shop the next morning they didn't have my car. I figured out the situation and called Chippewa Tire. Without having previously spoken to them, without them having met me or seen my car, they claimed they had already begun repairs to my car. I was horrified because they were "fixing" my tires - new tires with nothing wrong with them. I demanded that they stop immediately and insisted they didn't have permission to touch my vehicle for any reason. When I left my workplace and arrived at Chippewa Tire they had my car locked up in their garage and refused to let me have it until I had paid for the "repairs". The cashier refused to allow me to see the vehicle or the repairs. She even said the repairs were invisible to the eye because they are on the "inside of the tire". I asked her why they would work on a car without a written agreement or even a verbal discussion with me. She said when I left it on their parking lot that constituted implicit permission to do whatever work they felt was needed. I guess it's a good thing they didn't decide to replace my motor! She told me I had two choices: pay the bill and leave or I could not pay and she would poke a hole in my tire. I continued to discuss the situation with her and she grabbed me by the arm with both her hands. Her fingernails dug into my arm and she shoved me backwards hard. I yelled at her to "take your hands off of me right now". She then stepped back, made a lame excuse, then called the police and lied to them, claiming I had threatened her. When the police showed up I explained what happened in a calm and honest manner. They weren't interested in the fake report she made and I didn't care about that either. I asked them to let me take my truck and leave but they said they wouldn't do that. If I wanted to contest it I would have to take her to small claims court and leave my truck there in the meantime until the case was heard. So the police were no help to me at all. I paid the bill and took my truck away.. On the following day I posted a very brief review here but somebody complained and Yelp removed it, saying I needed to include more details about my customer experience, provide context and give a couple of hints for other consumers. I hope this review contains an appropriate level of detail and context. Here are my helpful hints for other consumers: (1) If you leave your vehicle here by accident don't expect any understanding or mercy. They believe they are entitled to work on whatever they decide needs to be worked on, according to the woman who works there. If your experience is like mine they will hold your vehicle hostage until you pay what they deem appropriate and the police won't be bothered to help you. Don't argue or ask questions. Just pay up or start looking for a friend to loan you another car while you wait on your small claims case to be heard. (2) Don't trust the woman behind the counter to be reasonable. In fact, my hint is to expect her to be defensive, rude, and unable to admit mistakes. Even if you admit your own mistakes she will not. Expect to be treated like dirt. (3) If you do get caught in a similar situation pay with cash. I paid in cash because I couldn't trust them to be honest with my credit card information. (4) Perhaps my most helpful hint is to find a different place to have your car worked on. Johnson's Service at Chippewa and Macklin is reasonable, extremely honest and doesn't work on cars without a previous discussion with the owner. I really like them -- good people. Midas Tires is just over on Kingshighway. Dobbs Tire is just blocks away to the west on Chippewa. They are expensive but they do NOT do a single repair on your car until you actually sign the list of work to be done. I have used all three of these businesses in the past and have never, ever received the rotten attitude, rudeness and downright hatefulness that I experienced at Chippewa Tire. Go anywhere else. There are lots of tire shops and repair shops in south city. (5) If you leave a negative Yelp review expect to get a passive aggressive reply. (6) My final hint is some of the things they will tell you at Chippewa Tire may be true.They claimed the repairs to my tires were invisible and they were right about that. I can't find any evidence of them. BTW, I do know what a tire patch looks like. After speaking with several of my neighbors in the Shaw neighborhood I encountered a number of others with their own horror stories about Chippewa Tire. I won't relate any of that here - I'll let them write their own reviews - but I'm surprised Chippewa Tire is still open. read more

Pretty fast, extremely friendly service at this locally run tire shop. They have helped me with numerous run-over nails, etc. Plus they sell decent used tires for spares. Not as expensive as the other local chains like Dobbs and Autotire. read more

they do a EXCELLNT JOB ON A WALLET FLUSH and they do not backup there work either came in with it pulling to the right brand new tires too they said you need a inner and outer tie rods so I said ok had it done they also alignment Left there with it pulling to the right still She Dena said all they would do is switch the two front tires 350.00 later still pulls to the right Have filed with my Credit Card co. for a refund on the alignment THESE PEOPLE ARE FANTASTIC AT WALLET FLUSHES ! ! ! read more

Okay, so when I had John Paul @ alleyway auto do some work for me on my truck.. he recommended Chippewa tire for alignments. * by the way he's shop & work are excellent * Called Chippewa tire, had the owner quote me the work, labor, taxes & out the door price. As a woman seeking mechanical services, this is the only place that has provided consistent, trustworthy, quality service to me and my car. I've had some horrible experiences, but Chippewa makes me feel confident that my car, my well being, and my budget are priorities for them too. I've had tires replaced and maintenance here multiple times over the past two years. Dina is an incredible communicator and always makes sure she lets me know my options. She is honest, knowledgeable, never pressures me to close a sale, and has been open about services that Chippewa Tire is not able to do and readily recommends other local businesses. There was even a time when my dealership was trying to charge me $400 to replace an oil pan that they had stripped the threads on and I called Dina in a bit of a panic. She was patient and offered to do whatever she/Chippewa could and ended up talking me thru the process - I was able to work out a solution that saved me $200. They always take the time to explain exactly which repairs must be done and which ones can wait a while. This is the worst company I have doubt with. The owner is obnoxious and beyond expected customer services. Charged us full price for tires and wheels $1,400 . Gave us only two tires because she didnt have them in stock. Called nxt day and left message about wrong tires were ordered by the owner of Chippawa tires. On Monday when we try to return unused products the owner did not want to return money for the 2 tires I brought back!!! She had the mechanic take the tires out of my trunk! She took the tires plus she charged the credit card $1,400 !!!! Refused to return any money. This was fraud reported to the credit company!!! The owner Also completed a fraud because she charged for 4 Tires but we had ONLY 2 . When I asked where are the two other tires we were supposed to have she told me to leave her business. Had a tire that wasn't holding air and wouldn't let us put air in. Dina got the car in right away (we didn't have an appointment). She explained what was wrong, gave us some options, quoted a price for the repair. We were done in less than an hour.
