I found some of the signage quite small when coming into the hospital as I've never been there…read morebefore and I didn't know where to park. it says emergency to the right, but it doesn't say that's where you can park for emergency until you pull into the area and then you see that to the left is your parking stalls and it also doesn't tell you you have to pay for parking until you've entered the building. which is fine except the two machines are located behind the person handing out masks, she doesn't tell you, you need to pay for parking as you enter inBetween the two doors and the two machines are quite small and off to the side. Behind her!!!!! I think that would be the only thing I truly didn't like about that part is not knowing where I was wondering around the parking area trying to figure out where I was supposed to park for emergency and I did not know I had to pay for parking which is fine, but it should tell you have to pay , it was only by mistake hearing somebody Asking where the machines were to pay for parking and I realized that I had better put some money into which was fine. They have strange symbols I've never seen before to indicate a bathroom it's looks like a biohazard black and white symbols when you get close to it you understand that that's a bathroom but from far away it just looks like some strange room to stay away from, it has a half oval and then it has a triangle underneath that oval with some half circles in the centre why don't they just make it look like an actual real toilet instead of pictogram. I guess they were scared to use the symbol for man and woman for the bathroom so they wouldn't offend somebody. Then there was the directions that I received from the nurses it's strange when all they have to do is tell you to follow the marks on the floor as when she told me to turn and go left down halfway down the hallway was confused because the hallway went on forever and halfway down to me looked further down past the doors that were down at the other end and then on so other side of that they were more hallway so then I Asked you mean to turn at the large green tile, because that was the only difference was a green huge green tile I'm talking like 10 x 5 she said yes turn left, but she didn't give me any other information so I wandered slowly down that hallway wondering where I was supposed to stop. I asked at another nursing station about where I should be and they pointed to a door that I had passed. I looked around to see where it would say x-ray on the doors. It did not. there was other titled words there. I looked down and noticed that directly in front of the door is a large yellow tile the same size as the green one where I turned left. I thought to myself, why didn't she just tell me to follow the green tile to the yellow tile and stop there on the floor...I mean it made the most sense. The hallway I was to turn down didn't have a sign saying 'x-rays this way', with an arrow or anything. I'd say the staff are pretty good but I found them a little Judge mental and I didn't appreciate that. For a medical facility the staff are not as professional as I thought they should be. I found the nurse when I checked in a little bit rude because after I gave her my health care she asked me if I was vaccinated and I understand why she asked that. I mean yeah you they want to know, but I had filled out everything on "my Alberta Health Care online " because I'm an essential worker and leave the country and I just assumed that the system was connected to the hospital..as it should be...they would know all my information. Who is it connected to ...then??? She took my question as being a smart ass comment. Like 'it's my job to ask.' I didn't elaborate because I thought I'm not here to cause a problem I just wanna find out what was wrong with me. I also wasn't looking for medication like opioids or anything else like that. I guess so many are addicted.. I told her I wasn't after that, I just want to find out what's wrong! I don't want any drugs. I didn't want to be quarantined handcuffed or thought to be a disgruntle rude patient, so I just explained more about my problem and continued on. It did take a long time for me to get my results and everything, but I kind of expected that because mine was not as urgent as some who came in. When I finally got home from travelling the new hospital was open and I guess many people just came there to check it out. That was not the case for me, as I come from another hospital in the states who just gave me some meds till I got to the Grande Prairie hospital. As they thought I had possible kidney stones but that wasn't what it was. But I could tell the staff probably thought so , about opioids, since I didn't have a fever or anything but if that was the case I would've been wandering around the hospital checking it all out! I was up front with the staff about my anxieties and was expecting to leave further traumatized as, frankly, I'm a horrible patient. On April 28 I finally booked an appointment to get the prescription filled, told it would be a 1-2 week wait which is normal and I expected to wait awhile. But the lady Courtney who helped me was amazing and patient when I was picking out what frames fit my face best. Everyone at the office is so warm and welcoming. I recently had surgery here and was thoroughly impressed with the experience (not so much with the…read morepost-op pain, but that's a separate issue). The day before I had my PAC (basically pre-op clearance). The wait times were short and the staff were super efficient and friendly. When time for surgery came the next day at 7am, wait times were again very short and I was in the operating room before I knew it, dozing off to some wonderful pharmaceuticals. I had to spend 2 nights in the hospital after the surgery, which were painful days, but made much easier by the friendly and competent nurses who were right on time for my 4-hourly doses of more wonderful pain killing pharmaceuticals. Discharge was a breeze, and that sums up my experience with the hospital. Only minus one star because the place is definitely showing its age and needs an update.
