Dinner here is a MUST! Every item ordered was amazing! I took a friend here to catch up, and we loved every bite we had. We started with the whipped ricotta which was a great way to start the meal alongside a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon blanc. The ricotta came with a light salad and grilled bread. I loved the slight sweetness from the cherries and honey. Next we got the cauliflower that was crispy, tangy, nutty. It's coated in a light tahini and topped with fresh herbs and pine nuts. We loved having this to get a simply, yet standout veggie addition to the meal. Next up was the potato gnocchi which came with little mushrooms, tomatoes, and corn. WOW. I loved it so much I ordered one to bring back for my roommate to try. It was light and summery, but so flavorful! Our main was the spiced chicken. Please don't miss this one!! I normally don't prefer chicken over other entrees, but this one is unlike any other. The skin was so crispy and the meat couldn't be more juicy and tender. It comes with a vinegar sauce, but I didn't think it even needed it (though, it was tasty). Under the chicken sits a bed of sticky rice that soaks up all the flavors of the chicken and is the perfect bite!! I also loved how perfectly cooked the broccoli I was that comes with it. The portion was definitely more than my friend and I could finish, but that just meant we got to have leftovers for the next day . Even though we were full, we had to try their dessert. Overall a pretty good experience. They were very busy inside but open outside. We were the first table to be sat out there but we did end up waiting to be seen by our server as sure went to four other tables before us. That was a little frustrating. After that we told her we had a time limit and she worked with us. We ordered a variety of small plates to save time. The tuna tartare was our favorite by far. The pickle tray was the least favorite as it only had four pickles and mostly olives. We enjoy the corn, the side of pasta and the buratta as well! I had a fantastic dinner at Chloe with my brother over Thanksgiving weekend. The food was fantastic, although they definitely upsell you to buy more than you need. They say 2-3 plates per person, but I would aim towards the lower end, particularly if you're getting a larger meat entree. Unlike a lot of small plates places, Chloe did an excellent job of timing dishes to come out. So we got the chicken liver mousse and lettuce, then the roasted vegetables a bit later, then the chicken after that. The highlights were the two roasted vegetables. The carrots are perfectly roasted and the vadouvan labneh was fantastic. And the yams and mushrooms were perfectly seasoned with chili, lime, and herbs, similar to a laab seasoning. The mousse and little gem lettuce were very good, but also not necessarily as unique. The spiced chicken was also excellent. The menu and meal was eclectic, traveling all over the world, but every dish was fantastic, the service was great for a small plate restaurant, and the entire experience was solid from start to finish. I just dont know how to feel about this spot. It's a cute spot and one of the newer locations in the gentrified area of DC's Navy Yard. The host was gracious enough to move our reservation out 45 minutes so we could hop across the street to grab a drink, but we'll talk about that on another review. This spot is pretty minimalist and I love the open kitchen concept to watch the chefs at work. Our waiter was a kind young man who had more tables aside to him then he probably should have as the restaurant was packed. He came over took our drink waters and we started off ordering slow so we could graze for a couple of hours. The stars of our meal - lets start with my drink - "la Lavande". It is very light, refreshing with lavender as the forward note and the lemon at the back end a tad bit sour but not talked. First up the grilled bread was really good and the olive oil of superior quality for sure. falafels and cauliflower absolutely blew my mind. Bursting with flavor and the slightest bit of heat from the spice-I could eat both of those every single day - without question. A good follow up to the starter dishes was the salmon with potatoes and mushrooms - the salmon was cooked absolutely perfect as well as the potatoes and mushrooms. We also ordered the yams and mushroom dish which I absolutely hated. I took one bite and immediately asked for it to be sent back-it was that nasty. I did not like the combination of flavors and the piece of yam I but into was still a little hard for from my liking. We ended up replacing that dish with the potato gnocchi which was subpar. I don't even think we finish the rest of the bowl and it was only tapas size. All in all, I would only return here for the falafels and cauliflower but I am sure I could find some just as good that wont be so expensive. read more

AMAZING food, Chloe is a must try in DC. Everything about the meal was perfect, from the food to the service to the naturally chic interior. The best bite of the night was probably the Potato Gnocchi - it was made exactly how gnocchi should be, pillowy, soft, slightly chewy and so flavorful. The mushrooms and squash were cooked perfectly and the butter sauce really complimented the gnocchi itself. The Fresh Ricotta was another favorite, as well as the Crispy Fingerling potatoes and the manchego cheesecake. The atmosphere is modern chic. The chairs were comfortable and neat looking. You could see the kitchen very easy. Even the owner was in the kitchen cooking food. Our hosts were really nice and sat us down promptly. Our server had a great personality. He asked my daughter to draw a picture and gave us great suggestions on what to get. The whole menu looked good so it was nice to get his input. I got the poached egg with the scallion biscuit and love it. We also got the salad, honey butter toast, and cauliflower. Ok, let's not take a moment more and just get this out of the way. Your olive plate is not fit for olives. Yes, I said it. A lengthy narrow plate with little to no lip is not the best vessel for serving those squirmy stone beans. Me and my colleagues tried one after another to get the olives off the plate without flinging the oily rounds perilously into someone's lap and were admittedly unsuccessful. There are two roads to go down here. 1. Just do away with the plate and get a bowl. I get it, the plate is pretty and modern and allows all the olive colors to shine, but it's just not practical. 2. In my last review I called Chloe the Pitbull of the food world and I stand by my proclamation. We ordered basically everything on the menu and my taste buds traveled everywhere from the Middle East to Asia to Europe to ... a Maryland beach boardwalk! I was lucky enough to dine with a large group of people so I got to try almost everything on the menu. Our server was on point knowledgeable, professional, and knew how to walk the fine balance of being available without being overbearing. She was a true rockstar. When one of our diners mentioned she was gluten-free she had the knowledge to not only suggest dishes that were safe to her to eat but also communicated with the kitchen to make appropriate substitutions so she was able to eat a majority of the menu. Out of everything we tried, the true standouts were: sheep's milk ricotta (order extra bread!), potato gnocci, crispy whole sea bream, roasted chicken (perfectly browned with a Peking duck feel), crispy cauliflower (I could eat a whole plate by myself), and crispy fingerling potatoes. So yeah basically the whole menu was amazing. Dessert was also on another level. Everyone on our team waxed poetic about different items but I personally loved the manchego cheesecake, hot buttered apples, cheese plate and chocolate torte. So I take that back. This place totally wow-ed me. I loved everything! I don't say "everything" lightly, because our group ordered more than half of the menu. This place was perfect for that, because it is meant to be a shared experience with the main dished being designed for two people and a large menu of starters and sides to share. I want to start with our service. Our server was incredibly knowledgable! She was both proactive and intuitive throughout the evening to give us a wonderful experience. We had one person in our group that was gluten free and she broke down the entire menu pointing out the best dishes and substitutions that could be made. When we placed our orders we forgot to mention some of the modifications that were needed, but she was already on top of them! Our food came out at an even pace throughout the experience. There was never a time where we had too much or were twiddling our thumbs waiting for the next dishes. There wasn't anything that I tried that I didn't enjoy so I'll focus on my favorites. The crispy fingerling potatoes weren't something I thought I would order since it seemed like such a simple dish and I was excited to branch out. I'm so glad someone wanted them, because they were possibly my favorite part of the meal. I also loved the gnocchi and crispy cauliflower. The spice roasted chicken tasted similar to peking duck and was my favorite main. The skin of the crispy whole fish was phenomenal, but the hanger steak was a little forgettable next to both of these wow-worthy dishes. Our server Daren suggested we choose about 3 items per person so the only real problem was trying to narrow our choices down to 6. They're the kind of problems to have in life. I wouldn't say don't try it, but it won't be at the top of my recommendations list. The bill also got sneaky high, so it ended up being one of the most expensive meals I've had in dc so far, which I think also added a bit to the disappointment. My favorite part of the meal was honestly my cocktail, Hello is the Final Word, which was legit spicy and had such a great lingering kick. The liver was probably the favorites but tuna Tatar and the ricotta are pretty high on the list. The special of the night was the 14 Oz pork chop which was delicious. The salmon was really tasty and the side was similar to the app of yam and mushrooms but much better. Not as potent and very delicious. The crispy fish was so delicious and so pleasing to the eye. Some items better than others. I'll review each item we got as we shared everything. He said he fat fingered it. Anyways it was still good and we were too full to get another one with veal so we'll have to try it next time. Potato Gnocchi: loved this. Thought it was one of the better gnocchis I've had. Cooked perfectly and the sweet corn was a perfect addition to this dish I would've never thought to add that. 5 stars Spice Roasted Chicken: not a huge fan of this dish. When I think of Chloe, one thing comes to mind: damn, that chicken was tender. I came here with my sister in law as she said that this place was going to be solid. Of course, I trusted her tastes, and we ate here. We ordered some pate for the appetizer, and it was creamy as well as flavorful. Pate is amazing because of that butter content! I enjoyed all of it and was pleased that they did it right. For the main, we both shared a chicken, and damn was it juicy and tender. The outside of the chicken was crispy, but the inside was just overflowing with juice. The Norwegian salmon was also tender, but I feel that the chicken really stood out to me. Fish is hard to do, but I guess if I had any criticism was that the salmon could have been improved upon? How? I would say maybe a bigger piece? I mean I enjoy the presentation, just the size of it wasn't great, and I like my fish on the rarer side, but it wasn't bad...far from it. I think I wanted more, but it just wasn't there. Chicken though? Damn, it can't get better! I would highly suggest this if it's still on the menu. However, I would hold my breath for it because it seems like they change their menus season to season. For the dessert we got a strawberry shortcake? I'm not positive, but it was absolutely amazing. It wasn't super sweet, which is what I'm constantly trying to find, but was just so great. I think usually if it's something that's creamy, that's what will get me coming back wanting more. I would suggest you to come here if you like to share plates. It's a bit pricey, but it's worth it because of the quality of the food and how it's prepared. But I would recommend to get one dish and share because then you can try out more dishes. Lastly, if you care much about ambiance. It's a really relaxed place. I returned to Chloe with my husband on a nice spring night in April. Once again, it was a wonderful experience! We were seated outside at a comfortable table with a great view for people watching. Since it had been a little rainy earlier in the day, the umbrellas were up, which meant the heaters couldn't be turned on near our table because it would be a fire hazard. Thankfully, the nearest heater still provided some warmth and we were fine. After much deliberation, we ordered the hamachi crudo, garbanzo falafel, caramelized cauliflower, roasted yams and wild mushrooms, and crispy whole fish. Everything was fresh, flavorful and delicious, but the crudo and crispy fish were my personal favorites. I started with the tamarind mocktail but we decided to order a bottle of riesling to go with our dinner. When I tasted the wine, I knew right away it was too sweet for me. Our server was so great about it and swapped it with and even drier riesling which was just right. I love Chloe and have enjoyed dining on their patio throughout the pandemic. My ggf & I really like the cocktails here and think this is a cute spot for a more high-end girls' night out. Service has been great on all my visits and I loved the attentiveness to getting us moved and sheltered during one visit we were caught in a sudden rain storm outside while dining on the patio. You won't go wrong ordering the caramelized cauliflower appetizer or the Norwegian Salmon entree. I love gnocchi & Chloe's mushroom rendition does not disappoint. If you're looking for something more hearty, go with the generously portioned spice roasted chicken. Chloe is located in Navy Yard. The area it's in gets pretty bustling since it's right by Nationals Park. There's street parking available and parking lots all over. I'd recommend making a reservation ahead of time since the place tends to fill up quickly. I came to Chloe for brunch after reading raving reviews about the place, and I was honestly a bit disappointed. I'd like to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt though since many of the reviews center around their dinner offerings rather than brunch. I was a fan of the atmosphere though and the service was very friendly. I ordered the Poached Eggs with Warm Scallion Biscuit ($12) and Spiced French Toast ($11). Everything was really tasty and you could tell the ingredients were quality, but the serving portions were way smaller (i.e., the French toast was just one slice of bread) than I expected and for its price I didn't think it was worth it. Chloe has a great interior. We went on Valentine's Day. Got the hamachi. It's fresh and has fish sauce in it so I like the Vietnamese twist. The salmon was amazing. Perfectly crusted with a mushroom bed and delicious sauce. Also got the short rib special which was delicious. The chicken was cooked well with a sour fish sauce. It's something that I could make at home so it wasn't particularly special but it was good. The panacotta dessert was a special; not too sweet with a crust crumble and fruit. The waiter recommended and was on point! Great service. Tipped 25% here. Overall good place. read more

Daphnis and Chloé is a romantic tale by the ancient Roman writer Longus that has inspired scores of painters, sculptors, poets, choreographers and composers. It tells the story of a young boy named Daphnis and a girl named Chloe on the Greek Isle of Lesbos who gradually fall in love as they grow up. And like the story, I gradually fell in love with this restaurant as the meal progressed. I don't know if this story also inspired Haidar Karoum to launch Chloé, but it could have. We started with the ricotta which was delicate and slightly salty-sweet. Good bread but we should have asked for more. Brussel sprouts and cauliflower followed, both were full of flavor but not over-seasoned or vinegared. Also loved the grilled scallions. Onwards to fish. The cod was solid but we truly loved the fried sea bass with the green mystery sauce on the side. Speaking of falling in love, I was smitten by the lemon tart with marshmallows. Chloe used to be one of my go-to restaurants. The food was always flavorful and service was usually great. My recent visit was not great. The service was okay, not as good as usual. But the food was flavorless! I had the crispy lemongrass chicken which I've had a few times before but this time it was not good. Others at my table also weren't impressed by the menu or the dishes they ate. The only good dish was the crispy fingerling potatoes. I'd only go to Chloe again if someone invited me. read more
