I will say... 5 stars because I can't fault it. The service and food are good, the food is just not "wow". I think its menu lacks authenticity or creativity, however, their food is solid and that's why they earned 5 stars. There's just something about the menu that doesn't win me over.

Early on a Friday evening..good crowd but not packed. Fairly 'spirited' would be hard to have a convo. Seated right away and got food and drink in play. Ordered chicken Mumbo pizza.... Detroit ish style. Had a side of chopped jalapenos...almost a garidina feel. Service.was good. Food prep time felt long. Give it a go!

Stopped in on a Friday night in Navy Yard. They have a large enclosed patio that is warm and inviting. Both the main restaurant and patio are loud environments though. Our server was efficient. Ordered a small half pepperoni and half meatball Detroit style pizza. The crust was perfectly crisp and chewy. Plenty of cheese for a good pull. Both sides of the pizza had good flavor. There weren't as many meatball pieces as I expected but the other half was loaded with pepperoni. There's a nice variety of menu items.

I absolutely love Scarlet Oak. It is one of Washington, DC's true hidden gems. A part of me wants to keep it all to myself, but here is another gift from your fairy foodie godmother because I believe in sharing joy through great food. From the moment you walk in, the restaurant looks gorgeous, smells incredible, and somehow there is rarely a wait. In DC, that feels like winning the lottery. The vibe is relaxed, the music is just right, and the staff moves with purpose and friendliness every single time. Let us talk about the drinks. They are elite. They are dangerous in the best way. And the guava lemonade? That is not just a drink, it is an experience. Trust me like you trust your GPS. I ordered the Cobb salad, and it was fresh, colorful, and full of flavor. Then the wings arrived... and let me tell you, those wings will have you planning your next visit before you even finish the first plate. You will strongly consider ordering another batch to go, just for the car ride home. If you want delicious food, unforgettable drinks, a chill atmosphere, and a place that never disappoints, Scarlet Oak is absolutely the move. Run, do not walk.

I came here for a happy hour and it was a pleasant surprise! I came here upon opening at 4pm. Happy hour was only available at the bar and some high top seats. We were quickly served some water. The ambiance is great. It became full as we stayed at the place longer and they had plenty of seats everywhere. My friend and I shared the Detroit style cheese pizza and risotto balls. The risotto balls we're okay - I definitely have had better. The Detroit style cheese pizza was absolutely wonderful though! We ended up getting a second order. They service it with ranch and a great spicy pickle relish. I would definitely go back again!

As friends who hadn't seen each other in a while, we stopped by Scarlet Oak to catch up over drinks and a few snacks. It was a gorgeous evening, perfect for sitting outside and enjoying the weather. Although we just missed the Happy Hour window, we still had a great time. The food and drinks hit the spot, and the company made it even better.

Chill spot to go for drinks and food. Staff is pretty friendly. I recommend ordering the salad. They come in a HUGE bowl. My friends and I were pretty shocked lol. They also make excellent espresso martinis.

I've lived near this place for years and for some reason never tried it until today! Went during their brunch, there are great bottomless options that you can choose from. The food was really great and fresh and filling, the service was also great. Everything came out quickly & our server kept the drinks coming and checking in. The ambiance is also nice, there's an option for covered outdoor dining, indoor dining and also sitting at the bar. Would definitely go again, this may be a new staple!

Food was good, service was pretty good and the overall experience was in line for the price. Was a little disappointed they ran out of Diet Coke or so I was told and then saw an employee carrying Diet Coke a few minutes later.

Nice all around American food restaurant. Pizza, pasta, ribs and many salads and appetizers. We tried all and they were great. Server was excellent, large beer and wine selection. Nice outdoor dining too. Most highly recommended!

This place is AMAZING! The food is incredible! The service is amazing! The only downside: it is so incredibly loud... I don't know if it's the acoustics in this building or what but it sounds like everyone is yelling... it is difficult to have a conversation at a table. Apparently it's a Wednesday thing because it's half off bottles of wine (that's what our server said). But I would definitely come back here! The food is so good! Where it's late we're going to sidecar, but there was no indoor seating and it was raining so we went next door since they served the same pizza and it was so worth it! Highly recommend!

Experience here was terrible. The hostess was very cold, and didn't say much to us at all when we arrived. Our server was friendly and quick to take our order. Food was the worst of all -- 3 different pasta dishes, all flavorless, pasta was either severely overcooked or super undercooked. Sauces all tasted like water and lacked seasoning. Would not recommended. I didn't see online, but there's also a 20% service fee added to every bill, which isn't considered a gratuity. Not at all worth it. The server waived the bill, which was a nice gesture.

Great service! We sat outside and the waiter offered my dog a water dish right away and was very attentive throughout our dining experience. I ordered the cheeseburger with fries. It was good but I wish it only had 1 patty instead of 2. I would rate it a 7 out of 10.

This Is Detroit-Style Pizza, So Don't Expect New York Style. It's Thick, With A Generous Amount Of Mozzarella Cheese & Tomato Sauce. Honestly, It Almost Felt Like A Cheesy Bread Situation But In A Good Way. The Crust Was Buttery With A Slight Crisp On The Outside & Soft Inside, Which Was The Perfect Balance. Through the side door, of course. Side Door Pizza is essentially a takeout counter just off the kitchen with its own separate entrance. We didn't quite realize that going in, and since it was cold and windy, we asked if we could take our pizza inside and sit at Scarlet Oak. They were happy to accommodate, asking only that we order something there as well, so we grabbed a drink. The pizza came out quickly, hot and fresh. We're vegetarians, so we ordered one square slice of cheese and one square slice of mushroom. The cheese slice was good but not great. It could have used a bit more sauce and seasoning. The mushroom slice, however, was excellent. We both immediately agreed we should have just ordered a full mushroom pie. Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience. The environment was welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. If you're in the Navy Yard area, it's definitely worth a stop. They also have a fairly extensive menu beyond pizza, which we didn't explore this time--but if you go, it's worth checking out the full lineup.

That month I had started Uber driving, was in this area of DC, had heard good things about Wiseguy, and decided to eat here. Although I don't like paying to park just to simply eat a meal, I sometimes will make an exception for convenience and/or if it's a place I really want to go. But for the most part, I'll go to restaurant where they have free parking or at least I can find free parking near the restaurant. I remembered getting a parking spot very close and feel like I feed the meter like 50 cents in 2014 parking prices for a quick 30 minute meal. They have all kinds of varieties of slices from the standard toppings or just cheese to fancy ones. Although the pizza is fairly thin, but average for New York style pizza. I tried Andy's Pizza 11 years later in 2025, and while it was solid although not as good as Wiseguy, my real complaint with Andy's was that the pizza is very thin, where I was hungry very soon later; so a much worse value as pricing is comparable to Wiseguy. Wiseguy slices are big, and the pizza is top notch New York style. I went to this location a couple of more times after my initial August 2014 visit as I loved the pizza. Then, they opened up other locations. I went to Navy Yard one at least twice, once after a Nationals baseball game after a disappointing loss for my 4th favorite baseball team, Texas Rangers. Sorry Nats fans, but Nats are in my bottom 10 teams. I also went to Rosslyn & Pentagon City location, where parking isn't quite as bad. They even had a Wheaton Mall food court location, which I got to experience once, but they sadly closed. Every experience with Wiseguy has been positive.

Premium toppings. Fresh, plentiful, great quality. It's worth the compromise- trust me! Both were delicious but I'll skip the detroit crust next time, and there will be a next time. For me the detroit crust was a bit spongy and had a slight yeast taste. Not enough to ruin the experience but enough for me to choose a different crust next time. We also got the ranch for dipping - new experience. That too wasn't for me. The ranch is homemade and great texture and flavor just not what I expected. It had a heavy dill flavor...yep...dill. My biggest pet peeve about NY style pizza places is that it's impossible to snag a hot slice out of the oven. When the pipping hot pizza is taken out of the oven, it's tucked under the display case. By the time the pizza pie is depleted from the display case, the hidden pizza gets cold as it's finally moved up. The cycle repeats itself...so you can never get a hot fresh slice of pizza. The Garlic Knots were hands-down the best part of my oil! I wish I could order a single knot as I didn't really want 3 knots. While the Chicken and Eggplant Parm are heavily promoted on flyers at the tables, I didn't see them on the menu, it would have been helpful to see before ordering. There's plenty of seating upstairs. I first had Wiseguy on 3rd & Massachusetts Ave NW way back in 2014, and I knew I loved their pizza. I had also been to a couple of other locations in Arlington & their only one in MD, which closed, at Wheaton Mall. I visited this Navy Yard Wiseguy about 3 times. The first was on Monday, January 6, 2020. I had work travel to DC. My girlfriend of that time was working in DC. It was a brief period of time. She started in December 2019, then on that Friday, 1/10, the contract was furloughed due to the contract company President dying, so she was off for 2 weeks. Then, it was back to normal commuting back to DC, which was brief, as Covid was around the corner, and became 100% remote. She was happy I surprised her coordinating lunch at Wiseguy at Navy Yard not far from her work. This location was pretty new at the time. She & I loved our pizza. It's a thin NY style, perhaps the best in the DMV! The other noteworthy time I visited was on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Early that afternoon, I was way up at Columbia Mall, where I happened to be writing this Yelp review now, as I ate lunch & had a movie on my AMC A-List. Afterward, I was texting/calling with a friend. He was itching to go to a baseball game. O's were away, but Nationals were in town playing against one of my favorite teams, the Texas Rangers, and I had their pitcher in our Fantasy baseball league. We coordinated that afternoon having about 1.5 hours to buy tickets on phone, for me to drive from Columbia to Greenbelt Metro with some modest traffic on parts of 95, & metro all the way on Green line for the 4:05 game. My friend was running a bit later, so we didn't enter right at 4:05, but my heart sank when I heard Nats fans loudly cheering for a homer. My Rangers pitcher got clobbered by the Nats. I was pissed at him quickly dropping him the next morning as soon as I could. Although rain chances were low like 15%, there was a heavy thunderstorm that blew from DCA to Nats Park; almost the entire region was clear, but just bad luck. The rain lasted like 15 minutes, but I was pissed at the Nats because they delayed the game by 1.5 hours! They should've gotten the game going within 45 minutes. I think it was a ploy by the Nats to get people to buy more drinks & food. I refused to give the Nats a dime besides the ticket to go to the game. But after the rain, I was hungry from like the 5th inning to the end. We should've been out of there about 6:30 (which would've been on par with my hunger level) but instead like 8 PM. I told my friend about Wiseguy seeing it was quick & relatively cheap. He loved their pizza too as did I once again. If I'm ever in Navy Yard, Wiseguy is definitely a viable option for me.
