It's definitely a splurge when compared to mass produced factory chocolate but you can taste the care and quality in every bite so it is definitely worth a stop. I loved the way the store was set up like a library for chocolate. Just grab a tray and tongs and add one or more of each bite to your tray. Cute interior with clever design for selecting chocolates and you can watch them make the chocolates. The chocolates themselves were just lacking in general, we spent more than $30 on a wide variety of 9 chocolates and were less than impressed. The unique flavors they were supposed to have were completely muted and we felt absolutely ripped off. You could get the same flavor profile of the Red Velvet and Let Them Eat Cake from a bag of knock off Lindt truffles, the supposedly 72% cacao Silver Bullet truffle tasted like nothing, and the Habanero Caramel had zero spice or pepper flavor. After trying all of our selections we came to the conclusion that the white chocolate varieties were best because they're not actually chocolate. All the chocolates we chose were excellent. Our favorite was the passionfruit! The Georgia peach cream was very creamy and not super peachy - perfect for those who hesitate on big peach flavor. The habanero caramel truffle was divine. The heat and passion fruit truffle was just the right balance of fruit and chocolate. The shop woman was so friendly and kind! This is across the street from Chippewa Square, but it is NOT where Forrest Gump got his box of chocolates. Great little chocolate shop with creative chocolates and bars and an open kitchen enclosed by glass. I'm sure the staff does not like to be watched like they are in a zoo, but overall, the woman at the counter where I paid for my chocolates and the staff in the kitchen seemed bothered by us, the customers. We're tourists spending money there, which helps keep the store open and staff employed. We had heard from the locals to try the delicious handmade chocolate here. The store has a wonderful, but not overwhelming smell of chocolate! The staff is very welcoming and eager to help you pick some chocolates. You grab a tray and some tongs and grab your chocolates from the cute cabinets in the shop, when you're done, go up to cashier and they'll package it up for you. In the back of the store you can see chocolatiers hard at work assembling chocolate and at our visit, advent calendars! 5-3-24 Came here as we were eating at a nearby restaurant that referred us to here for chocolates. It wasn't what I expected to find in Savannah as I was thinking more pralines. However it was the most unique shop with the chocolates being made onsite in the back. The merchandising was amazing on the different varieties of chocolate offerings. It looks like a book store, and each section has a beautiful glass display of the chocolates to buy. I stopped in here while visiting Savannah after seeing this shop on Yelp. We went on a Saturday afternoon and when we walked in, we were the only customers in the shop. It's a really cute set up. Each truffle or piece of chocolate is individually priced. You can pick up a tray and a pair of tongs and mix and match whatever chocolates you'd like. They also have chocolate bars, chocolate covered Oreos, and other goodies for sale as well. I will say that my main reason for stopping in was to get some of those adorable topiary chocolates. I was very sad to see that they did not have them the day that I went in. I did end up getting some goodies for friends and family to take home with me. Overall it was a good experience. Unfortunately, my days are numbered here in Savannah, so I am trying my hardest to check off all the places on my Savannah hit list safely, before we move. I've been eyeing Chocolat by Adam Turoni (CBAT) since we moved here and finally popped in recently. This is the location on Bull Street, that they call The Chocolate Library. The other location on Broughton is called The Dining Room. I've never been to that one, so that's next, hopefully! According to their website, they've opened a third location in Charleston, so you heard it here first, Yelpers! So back to this shop. It is small and quaint, but full of Adam's heavenly creations. The shop is beautifully decorated like...yup, you guessed it, a library! The chocolates are artfully displayed inside cabinets and bookshelves surrounded by books and antiques. There's a grandfather clock at the entrance, old paintings, old furniture and a giant boar/wild pig's head mounted on the wall by the cash. There are all sorts of chocolate delights and too many to describe and to break down into categories for this review. However, you can always go to their website before visiting to see the pics and descriptions of each one so that you can be more focused on your visit, not like me LOL. There's a lot of thoughtful and local elements like the Savannah Bee Co. honey incorporated into the bar with bees in the design. If you pick the Crème Brûlée chocolate (see pic), you'll need to ask for assistance. They are stored in a cloche by the cash. The lady will take one out and pull out her kitchen hand torch and brûlée it for you on the spot and they recommend instant consumption. Don't need to tell me twice! It's fun to watch, but the chocolate vanishes too fast! All of the chocolates that I tried were exquisite! They are all beautifully crafted and the flavors are divine. Treat yourself or anyone would love you forever if you bought them a box of treats from CBAT. I know I would! Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. - Heads Up - *According to their website, do not store their chocolates in the fridge. It will ruin them! *Look out during the holidays, especially Halloween for different designs. They are fun! - COVID-19 Observations - *retail staff are wearing masks *a plexiglass provides a protective shield from the retail side to the kitchen. It's fun to be able to see what the chefs are whipping up. *you grab an old library indexing drawer that serves as your tray and it's self serve, which I was a little surprised to hear during this strange world we live in at the moment, but there was only one lady working during my visit and customers wore masks. Happened to be in the area and stopped by for a few treats. They had some new pieces I hadn't seen before so my husband and I each got 6 chocolates. They provided us an ice pack so the chocolate wouldn't melt. The only complaint is that during COVID they still have people open the cabinets and take the chocolates themselves. I am changing this review to say that the chocolate is AMAZING. However, the lady at the counter is rude as the reviews have stated. There is no 'thank you', no smile and she seems really put out. I highly recommend you find someone else to work the front counter as it ruins the experience you have put so much effort into creating for your customers. The people in front of me asked if they could split their purchase on two cards (they are cash only) and she said 'well we would have to run as two transactions', but didn't offer to rerun the transaction so the couple said 'ok I guess we will have to pass then' and walked out. During a recent visit to Savannah, my husband and I saw this adorable and small chocolate shop. Upon entry, we were greeted by a friendly individual who asked if it was our first time in. She proceeded to educate us on the various chocolates, the chocolate making process, and how to select what you'd like. Most of the non pre-packed chocolates are inside of book cases that you can look into. There are small trays beneath the book cases where you can grab tongs and select your chocolates (appreciate this touch). The chocolates looked to be between $2-$4/piece on average. On our first visit, we selected the salted peanut butter cup (delicious), topiary (the most creative piece I've ever seen), strawberry jam heart (delicious combination with the chocolate, most refreshing), and Savannah peach truffle (twist on a classic). Each was decadent, beautifully crafted, and worth every penny. Knowing Savannah is hot and humid, unless you're going right back into air conditioning with the chocolate, I would recommend only getting what you plan to eat. With that in mind, we returned the next day and got the honey peanut butter crunch (beautifully adorned with a bee), and mint julep (my favorite taste). They do have quite a few pre-packed and gift options that looked amazing as well; however given we were going to be adventuring during the days, I couldn't bear to imagine that wonderful chocolate being one melted heap. Overall, this spot is absolutely worth a visit (or several). As we were leaving, I asked whether tours visited this spot and the individual there indicated that some food and/or chocolate tours do stop at that spot as well. With ample hours of operation, a beautiful grab and go experience, and creative presentation, this is one of my favorite dessert spots in Savannah.
