There's a craft counter, a chocolate counter, and an ice cream counter, and no clear lines or what not. At first glance, it's not immediately obvious where to focus your attention, so I went with the ice cream for here and took the chocolates walking. The owner was out on the floor chatting with customers, which gave the place a welcoming and local feel. It was nice. A few times I hovered close to him and tried to find an opening to ask him some questions about the products, but he was busy with other guests. As for the history of the business, there are enough newspaper clippings and articles on the walls to keep anyone occupied while waiting. Most of the staff appeared to be high school- or younger college-aged employees handling the day-to-day operations. The ice cream isn't made in-house (it's Farr's brand), so this review is more about the experience than the product itself. The serving size was fair, and I opted for the spumoni. Yes, really, spumoni. Three other people in our group between their twenties and forties had never even heard of the flavor before. The ice cream is scooped from a mixed single barrel rather than barrel with separated sections, so the chocolate, pistachio, and cherry had blended together. It was kind of like putting different sodas into the same cup. While I enjoy ice cream and these flavors, others might not think the same. The standout items for me were the chocolates. The bourbon chocolate came with a huge flavor punch. It was rich, bold, and intense enough that I needed a break and a glass of water afterward. It's not for the faint of heart and you need to be serious about chocolates to have an appreciation for this one. The marzipan, on the other hand, was a perfect follow-up. Not to sweet, balanced, and a very nice almond flavor. It was delicious and served as a nice palate refresher after the bourbon's performance. Between the chocolates and the owner's visible presence this was an enjoyable stop. The chocolates were easily the stars of the visit and worth it if you're in the area.

In addition to the candies in the case, there are shelves of other candies, some vintage. There is also a shelf of locally made goodies. It has a fun feel to it, but definitely still working out the details of recently opening. The reason I rated only 3 stars was for the service. When I think of mom and pop shops like this, I think of the owner or someone close to the owner running the shop, greeting customers and making people feel welcome. When I visited, there was a teenager working who clearly didn't have any stake in the success of the business. She was unfriendly, disinterested and didn't engage in any type of dialogue. I get it, I was 16 once and didn't care much about my job...but if I was the owner of this shop, I'd want to know and be sure to have people working there that represent my brand in a different way. Kimmie is as sweet as they come - she makes you feel like she's your long-lost aunt who welcomes you to her shop and can/will make any candy/chocolate concoction your heart desires, she really is "YOUR personal kandy maker". Upon entering her lovely shop, she has a table full of samples that she offers you to see what you like or gravitate to. I've had the privilege of tasting her salted caramels - they are to die for! A MUST have! My favorites so far: salted caramels, milk chocolate roasted almonds bark with buttery vanilla caramels, freeze-dried taffy (I had no idea till I tried hers that I liked freeze-dried taffy!). It just felt awkward to walk in and start browsing while she just watched us.) When we checked out, I attempted friendly small talk and it fell flat.
