I went to the burger place across the street and found the this chocolate factory store. The store is set up nice and they do have a good selection of chocolates. The employee that came from the back didn't seem to care much for helping customers. We ended up with a few different toffees that were delicious. I felt the prices were reasonable. read more

Recommend especially for Valentine's Day coming up! We happened on this place while walking in downtown salt lake and had to pop in. It is in an industrial area so you might miss it. They have all kinds of chocolate options from dark to milk. The were sold out of quite a bit since it was the holidays but they were able to accommodate. It feels like all the local malls have a V Chocolates kiosk, generally offering samples of their chocolate-covered caramels. I have tried them, and the caramel itself is very good: not overly sweet, seeming to be naturally flavored, and perfectly soft. But at these stands they only ever have milk chocolate everything, and that is NOT my jam. This factory store offers many pre-packaged goodies just like the kiosks, but with at least quadruple the inventory displayed, and many products not offered elsewhere. Along with the caramel, their other big seller is toffee (almond, macadamia, cashew, or pecan), but they have plenty of additional sweets: cutie chocolate frogs and turtles, chocolate covered nuts, pretzels, cinnamon bears, caramel apples, and more. Many are available in both milk or dark, including what surprisingly ended up bring my favorite: mocha meltaways! Their appearance is in the vein of Utah's ubiquitous mint meltaways, however the filling is creamy, dreamy coffee flavored. It is mild, slightly crunchy from flecks of real coffee beans, and just scrumptious as can be! Another bonus of shopping the actual store is that you have the option to purchase just a few of most their treats, rather than a full box. They have a glass case at the counter, though little was exhibited within, but they can retrieve your requested chocolates from the back. When I stopped by a week or so ago, they did not have everything available (I think, like many other chocolatiers, they are just now starting to really ramp up for the holidays), but I was able to snag cellophane baggies of several of the aforementioned mint and mocha meltaways, a square of toffee, plus a few dark chocolate covered caramels. Their packaging and branding is on trend: simple and clean, in heavy, almost Tiffany blue boxes, making excellent gifts. Prices are reasonable, especially if simply treating yourself and opting out of the gift packages, as I spent about $10 for my selections. They had a small table of half-priced treats, too! Service was fine. I did wait a good ten minutes while the one employee out front was taking a an order via telephone, but I can't fault her for that, and it gave me time to meander around the shop, so I knew just what I wanted when she was available. This chocolate is soooooo good and the Caramel apples are so good! Personally I think they make the best caramel and chocolate I've had. This location is where they make all the delicious treats and you can even see them in action making the treats. They even ship products if you can get to a location and even have a wholesale side where they sell products to higher end stores. For me being in Arizona, I was told AJ's sell V's chocolates so that made me happy to know that Walking into the store, they have so much delicious looking treats but I was for sure getting a delicious caramel apple. I ended getting the white chocolate cinnamon sugar caramel apple which is soooooo good. Perfect tasting white chocolate with that cinnamon sugar taste that makes to crave it. I also got some sea salt chocolate caramels which you can never go wrong with. The caramel has that nice soft, fresh taste with that smooth chocolate with a hint of sea salt that is makes it a perfect treat They even have some samples which I had a truffle and a chocolate covered cinnamon bear. That chocolate is so good that I generally don't link truffles and that was one of the best truffles I've had. Nice smooth tasting chocolate that makes me think of how European chocolate tastes like. I was excited to try V after a friend recommended it to me. For the record, I try chocolate in every city I visit worldwide and then review it. As for chocolate, V's work is competent bordering on very good. This review is unlike any chocolate review I've written in that it's based on my experience in the shop. After 13 years of visiting and getting to know chocolatiers, this is the first time I've dealt with someone so cold (I've even had chocolatiers open shops for me so I could sample while in town -- this has happened in Buffalo and MSP). Anyway, I arrive at 9:30am and the woman working the counter wants nothing to do with me. The display case is a bit of a mess, and when I ask to fill a box, I'm directed to the pre-packaged boxes around the room. This is a red flag to me as it means the chocolate probably utilizes a stabilizer for shelf life. I want fresh truffles. I don't see an assortment of truffles, just turtles and, I believe, toffee. When I ask if there are truffles, the woman points to a small stand with 4-piece boxes. I ask if V had larger boxes, and the woman replies, "We might," and continues to stand there, not looking for them, apparently irked that a customer is in the shop. I grabbed the 4 piece and high tailed it out of there. It's typical for me to spend $50-$100 at each chocolate boutique I visit. V lost out on that business as well as my future business. I know there are busy times, up times, and down times in the chocolate industry. It's a difficult business to sustain. That's why I'm confused as to why the person at the counter did nothing to promote chocolate that I suspect (and hope) the chocolatier is proud of. Perhaps the person took a look at me and assumed via my appearance that I wasn't worth their time? I just don't get it. Good chocolate or bad, this was a bad experience. Again, the chocolate itself seems OK but with only 4 sample pieces, it doesn't give me much to go on. read more

I visited V Chocolates right before Christmas and was thrilled to see so many different types of toffee and chocolates still available despite how close it was to the holidays. The staff was friendly, and they were steadily busy throughout the time I was there. All of the chocolates available are displayed on dark wooden tables or shelves, and some are in the glass cases in the front of the store. I purchased several boxes of toffee-some with almonds, some with macadamia nuts, for my neighbors. Very reasonable prices and several different kinds of treats if you are interested in a variety of their chocolates and toffees. Some of their toffees and chocolates come packaged in their blue boxes, which really make their presentation as a gift special. I will definitely return the next time I am interested in buying local chocolates for someone as a gift, or even for myself as a special treat! read more

I decided to go down to the main location to see what they had available versus what's provided at a local retailer. I can say it wasn't much difference and the service wasn't the best or was as if I interrupted the lady's day coming in to shop. I'm a gal who appreciates some good chocolates. When we got some of V Chocolates almond toffee for a holiday gift, I pretty much ate the whole one-pound box (good thing I'm a fitness instructor). I was glad to learn they had a few stores in town, so when Valentines Day approached, I picked up another box so my sweetie could have some this time. The salted caramel chocolates from V Chocolates are superb and this chocolatier knows how to produce a **mostly** quality candy. It is disappointing that hydrogenated oil and corn syrup is used in the production of these weighty morsels of caramel goodness, the remainder of the ingredients are pretty straight forward. Seriously, if these candies were made without the hydrogenated oil and corn syrup, the candy box closure flaps, with its "V" shaped design would qualify as a crown. read more
