My husband bought me a fine selection of these chocolates when he was skiing with our son, it was SOOOO yummy! We went back while driving through salt lake last week and spent a good deal of $$ on their amazing chocolate and BEST Carmel ever! Even brought some to my step mom who we met in Utah. Now we're headed home and guess where we will stop on our way through salt lake? Oh yes, we want to bring some to our family in Nebraska and we may need another world famous Carmel (Granny Smith large green apple) with chocolate drizzle and pecans! Been here, done that. Several times. Easy to take it for granted. Easy to be critical when paying for it. Easy to absolutely love it when given it as a gift. This stuff is legit. Whoever you end up gifting this stuff to, they're going to be as impressed as they are going to be grateful. It's good enough to travel from a respectable distance for. I've been meaning to check out this chocolate shop for a while, but based on other reviews I was pretty sure it wouldn't really be my kind of place. I was right. It smells pretty amazing when you first walk in because they are making caramel. That seems to be their specialty, and one of the few things they actually make there. They have a lot of novelty candy, along with molded chocolate in various shapes (a lot Utah themed). What is the point of paying a couple dollars for a chocolate moose that is less chocolate than a candy bar, and the same quality as a Hershey bar? No thanks. They did have some truffles that I'm guessing they might make there, but they were in a case that was backed up against a wall, and it looked like nobody ever opened it, so I didn't feel very excited to try one of those. They also didn't seem to have anything in dark chocolate (believe me, I looked!), unless they maybe had some in those questionable truffles. I bought a caramel apple (rodeo) and a prepackaged mint truffle. I don't know why I ordered the truffle because it was milk chocolate and it was just not very good. Also I am guessing they don't make it there because of the way it was packaged, but I could be wrong. The caramel apple was fine. The apple could have been a bit bigger. The caramel was pretty good, but not amazing. It was very soft, and didn't have a lot of flavor beyond the just straight sweet flavor of caramel. I like it when caramel has a little more color, and is actually caramelized. They do get props for using all natural ingredients in the caramel, though. I paid a little over $6.00 for both, so price is average, I'd say. The service was very good. They had a bit of a line when I first came in, and the two women checking people out were quick and friendly. I do have to note that both groups in front of me bought a pound of caramel, and they both said it was for themselves, not a gift, so people obviously like the stuff!! I'd say come here for caramel if you like very traditional homemade caramel like your mom or grandma would have made. If you are looking for anything a bit different or updated I'd go elsewhere, and I wouldn't bother coming here for any other candy or chocolate. read more

Our family loves this place. The selection of caramel apples at Chocolate Covered Wagon is wonderful and they are all so delicious, we cannot pick a favorite. We have purchased them by the dozens each year for our kids to bring to school as teacher appreciation gifts. It's become an anticipated tradition! Their hand-made fudge and caramels are divine and their toffee is scrumptious. I've hoarded each for myself as well as given them as hostess gifts- Always a hit! The friendly staff has put together wonderful birthday gift baskets at a moment's notice, and are enthusiastic about whatever wonderful confection they are making. The place smells like heaven. Their fudge is their best feature! They sell bulk as well as prepackaged 1/4 pound tubs. They offer a deal when you buy fudge, buy 1 pound anf get 1/4 pound free, mix or match between the bulk and tubs. They have so many delish flavors, their salted carmel and mint chocolate cookie is also amazing; all the flavors are! If you like fudge thick, dense, and kind of crusty on the outside, definitely get the bulk stuff from the slabs. If you enjoy the soft, more creamy, and sticky like, get the tubs! As far as their other treats, some are hit or miss.. I like their caramels, but most of their actual chocolate items aren't that great, but they're good. They offer those amazing carmel and chocolate covered pretzels which are scrumptious but pricey! Everyone I've encountered here is friendly and helpful. They're willing to let you try a lot of things for samples, which helps narrow down your purchases! read more

Being new to Utah, my wife and I have been looking for a local chocolate shop. Well, we FOUND the place. Every sample we tried and the items we bought for ourselves were fantastic. Specifically, chocolate covered peanuts, toffee and fudge. Our purpose outside of finding a great chocolate shop was to gift shop for Thanksgiving. That staff was very catering and assisted in selections for our gift box and understood our price range as well. This is a must for anyone in Utah looking for great service, excellent value and a product that can't be beat! read more

This is sort of an old fashioned chocolate shop. None of the more inventive/hip offerings you'll find at places like Amano or Hatch Family. If you like a basic caramel apple or chocolate covered Oreo or rice krispie treat it may be your place. Our dark chocolate panechy (sp?) creams tasted like the chocolate had been cross contaminated with a mint flavored batch. It was a bit off-putting. Other chocolate covered caramels I've had here have been good. I didn't find the salted caramel I was craving today though so I'm left unfulfilled. read more

This little local chocolate shop is a great place to get small Utah/pioneer themed candy gifts for your friends and family. Mind you, it isn't a fancy chocolatier shop with expensive exotic flavors (think Christopher Elbow) but an old fashion local shop that is probably more similar to a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Shop. Some of our favorite treat gifts that we always get are the homemade salt water taffies and caramels, the mint chocolate truffles, and the Oh my Heck! Utah rice crispy treats. There is also a some chocolate cowboy that they put on a stick, though to me, he just looks like Mr. Hankey from South Park with a Cowboy hat instead of a Xmas hat (that doesn't stop me from eat it though). They also have the candy apples, bagged candy that they get from the local "Sweets" Candy Company in Salt Lake, and of course their own line of chocolates. If you are visiting the area (skiing, hiking, etc,) and need a few Utah themed gifts, this is a great local shop to patronize. read more

What can I say!!?? I found Covered Wagon while searching for a place to buy chocolate covered strawberries for an anniversary treat. So I decided to give it a try. It is conveniently located in Sandy by Smith's grocery. I walked in to an intimate space just oozing Mom and Pop vibe! I was greeted immediately with a hello and a smile. I was surprised by the huge selection of all things chocolate! Some items to note; caramel apples, chocolate covered strawberries and raspberries, and fudge of all flavors! Yum! I purchased a lovely gift box of chocolate covered strawberries & huge pieces of fudge. DELICIOUS!! My husband loved everything! We will definitely return and recommend! So, I went about a mile away to Rebecca's Chocolates, where I got exactly what I needed, with a fair price and a smile. The Chocolate Covered Wagon may have alright candy, but in terms of cleanliness and customer service, they're awful. I bought a 3/4 pound bag of salt water taffy (which was overpriced to begin with), and actually found insects in the candy. Small, ant-like insects. Also, their customer service is sub-standard. I waited for about 5 minutes when I knew what I wanted before the cashier stopped playing on her cell phone and helped me (and she didn't wash her hands before going back to her work either). Never go here- there are better places in the Salt Lake Valley- like Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory and Cummings Chocolates. read more
