3 scoop - ultimate Oreo oat cream, peaches and cream, lemon blueberry swirl
    Sho R.

I stopped by on a weekday evening for a quick ice cream. There was a short line. I went for 3 scoop - ultimate Oreo oat cream, peaches and cream and lemon blueberry swirl. Probably ultimate orea oat cream was my favorite, with peaches and cream coming at a close second. Lemon blueberry swirl was also a good flavor. As this is inside Memorial Union food court, there was a lot of seats to sit and enjoy the ice cream.

In the Memorial Union on the shores of Lake Mendota; Serving premium ice cream made by Babcock Dairy Plant; Hot and Humid June weekend night; Time with family both past and future...a really memorable night that I don't want to forget. We made our way to the Union from Capitol Square after dinner, taking Beanie (our kid's new mini dachshund) on a walk through State Street. The ice cream shop is located inside the Union, and had long lines surrounding the store. We got in the nearest line from the entrance, but soon noticed there was another line on the other side for folks who were walking from inside the historical building. We soon got in front, and chose a two scooper ($6) from the 16 available flavors. The student workers are encouraged to give out very generous scoops, so it turns out to be a good deal of ice cream. We've eaten Babcock ice cream many times (usually taking visitors to it when we lived in Madison), and it is good as ever. Very thick and creamy (never any ice crystals since they go through it so quickly), with unusual flavors and clever names. They intentionally don't distribute far outside of Madison. My wife and shared a Carmel Creek/Mocha Macchiato combo, thinking about the past. We took it back outside, and sat on the shores of Lake Mendota, eating our rapidly melting ice cream, listening to the live band on the Terrace, and enjoying each other's company.

This wonderful ice cream shop is located inside the Memorial Union on the campus of the University of Wisconsin. They have about 30 different flavors of ice cream and sell it by the scoop in a cup or on a cone. They also have sundaes and milkshakes. I had the Union Utopia flavor on a waffle cone, and it was delicious. My husband had a scoop of mocha macchiato and loved it, too. There is plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating at the Union overlooking the lake. The ambiance is great and I would definitely return regularly if I lived here. Service was good

    Great location in Memorial union

Generous portions friendly service and great location. Great and everything, but this ice cream is incredible. We tried blue moon, iced latte with chocolate chunks, and cookies and cream. Wow

The ice cream tasted so-so, I don't see anything special. But for an ice cream place that sells by scoop, I think the $5+ for three scoops is a good deal. Some ice cream parlors we've tried sell a scoop for $5. Anyway, this covid, not a lot of people wear mask inside the restaurant. Probably just 2 families out 50 (masks not required by state at the moment though). The good thing is that there's ample nice space outdoors were you can eat! Even if the waterfront colorful tables are chairs are full, you can sit on the grass or along the "boardwalk". Wasn't able to take a pic of our order because we decided to dine out and they started melting quickly. ROFL! Oh, I wish the container for the 3-scoops were bigger. Parking maybe hard, consider the nearby garage. TIP: Look on the Flavors of the Day before falling in line because it can take a while for you to decide, or the line will start getting long and you'll be rushed to pick just whatever.

Double Turtle- 2 scoops of ice cream topped with hot fudge, hot caramel, glazed pecans, whipped cream, & a cherry!!! It was heavenly. An outing at the Terrace is incomplete without Babcock ice cream. Yummy goodness in a bowl. Fabulous ice cream. My favorites are the orange custard chocolate chip, blue moon, mango sherbet and the blueberry swirl. Be patient and wait for the best ice cream. Worth the wait in line!!

I am obsessed! This ice cream shop has amazing and unique flavors, and the amount of ice cream you get for the price is fantastic. My favorite flavor has to be the strawberry - I can see why it is award-winning! This place is a must for all who are visiting Madison!

Any Yelpers find themselves in jail from writing a Yelp review? Today might be the day. I'll explain. We were in Madison on our summer road trip vacation. And it was hot. We were staying near the University, and Yelp led us to this ice cream spot. We needed it. So we walk in. Get multiple scoops of ice cream in a giant waffle cone. I'm not sure our daughter has ever had this much ice cream. But the prices can't be right. It's only this much for that giant ice cream cone? I didn't argue. But clearly they aren't gouging their customers. It was delicious. But here's where it gets dicey. As I'm outside, I now see the sign. "With the exception of announced public events, use of the Wisconsin Union is restricted to UW-Madison students, Union members, faculty, staff and their guests." Uh oh. Did we just break into this place to get cheap, awesome ice cream? If yes, where's the Yelp attorney hotline number if I find myself in the clink? (Some jokes aside, that sign might need to be bigger if you don't want the riff-raff like my 8 year old in there.)

I ordered the Alumni Park After Dark.

I can't tell you if this is the best ice cream in Madison but I can tell you I'm totally happy that I tried it. If I lived in Madison, I'd easily go here all the time. I decided to go with the Alumni Park After Dark Chocolate. It obviously wasn't dark because it was in the middle of the day but I couldn't pass up dark chocolate ice cream. It was dark chocolate ice cream with white chocolate chips. You should know that the white chocolate chips were more like shavings than chips! I IMMEDIATELY FELL IN LOVE! It was also supposed to have caramel. I didn't taste the caramel in my scoop but it was certainly gooey. I decided on a waffle cone. It was a small mistake because there was a hole in the bottom. It made things messy. It is true what they say; The messier the dish, the better but when I eat ice cream... the last thing I want to be is all sticky. This place is like most shops. Pick your cone or bowl. Choose your size. Pick your flavors. They have some typical flavors like vanilla, cookies and cream, and mint chocolate chip. They also have other flavors. All of them sound delicious! I want to go back to try their orange custard chocolate chip! If you're near this place and need a refreshing treat, go here. After you get your ice cream, there are also plenty of places to walk around outside. There were hordes of people the day I was there. Ok... maybe not hordes but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use hordes in a review.

BLUE MOON ICE CREAM!! I'm sorry. Let me rewind just a moment. We had spent the morning and early afternoon around State Street, campus and the Capitol area. After visiting two free art museums, eating some sushi, and walking up and down State Street in the hot, hot heat...we were easily talked in to stopping for some ice cream. The Daily Scoop is in the Union building, and prices are very reasonable. I got to try my friend's orange chocolate chip and it tasted JUST like the Christmas candy! But when I looked at the menu of the available flavors and I saw BLUE MOON....well, I was over the moon! My mouth watered and I was filled with a joyous rush of nostalgia! Blue Moon was my absolute favorite ice cream flavor growing up. I have not encountered it outside of Wisconsin (although, to be honest, I don't eat a great deal of ice cream any more....). I don't know what it is...apparently the flavor is actually vanilla and orange together, but colored blue. And I don't know how the color might affect the taste, but it doesn't just taste like a creamy orange....it just tastes wonderful! I was only going to to get a single scoop in a dish. But when it comes to Blue Moon ice cream....I am pretty proud of myself for stopping myself at two scoops. A little less willpower and I might have eaten the entire tub in their freezer! Once you get your sweet treat, you can take it outside to enjoy the view of and breeze from the lake. People watch and eat your ice cream as it melts. It was a great way to end the afternoon. Certainly worth a visit!

This ice cream is incredible. The flavors, the creaminess, the texture. I could go on and on. I got the cappuccino macchiato and the cookie dough. And I loved them both equally. One of the best parts was looking at the snow covered frozen lake in 10°-15° while we ate it. And then we walked onto the lake. So fun!

It's no longer right by the main entrance but it's the same great Babcock Dairy ice cream! Lots of daily flavors to choose from, I had vanilla with a rhubarb swirl. I think there's an ordering process that I failed to see until seeing some pics on Yelp: 1. Dish/cone, 2. Size, 3. Flavor It's a University of Wisconsin tradition, and it's the best, Jerry, the best!

One of the best ice cream I've ever had! Super creamy and not too sweet, and a single scoop came in quite a big portion.
