Our family is enamored with ChocolaTree, it is a rare jewel we will never forget and first on our list when we return to Sedona. I can't wait to go back! Came here looking for Keijwa Kreation's/Illup Gravengaard's Kombucha on our AZ September vacation. Was absolutely delighted with the people, Food, products, decor, vibe and smells inside. My 8 yr old Son begged to eat dinner there because it smelled so nice. (Curry/Chai smells in hallway by kitchen) (He is VERY Picky!) We are not vegetarians, but we do eat one vegetarian meal a week, this was the best vegetarian restaurant I've been to in my life!!! We arrived before dusk and could hear laughter and kids playing and a red swing like thing in the garden from the parking lot. It turned out to be an aerialist's rig. Fantastic! The patio was a serene, gorgeous, beautiful, very relaxing oasis of calm with things even my hyperactive-cooped-up-in-the-car-all-day-kid could play on and enjoy while we lingered through our meal. There was a Hammock, lingham stones, very comfortable patio seating and umbrellas, a fountain, the silks rig, colored lights and laser lights, ripening figs, vines, lots of comfy chairs encircling a lighted tree with a Kiwi vine climbing on it, a chorus of cicadas, gorgeous music and very kind, helpful, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, patient and oh so sweet staff... Isabella and one of the owners took care of us that evening. (Beware and do take them up on their offer of natural insect repellent when dining in the garden. You will be glad you did. Sedona is a wild place.) My Husband had the Special - Local lobster mushrooms in a lovely sauce with garlic mashed potatoes, a salad with cilantro dressing and an 8 immortals shot drink on the side and a purple lemonade. All 3 were delectably delicious, he let me taste. I ordered this lovely perfectly spiced Almond Milk Chai that was so divine my son tried to commandeer it twice. Also had a type of Dossa or Indian pancake with this scrumptious mango butter that had the richness and depth of ice cream but wasn't as cold but was heavenly on the dosa or by itself. Also had Saag or curried Indian Spinach, with a slightly fermented nut butter that was extraordinary - you can taste the love they put into the food! They have this wonderful local Spring water served in lovely glass decanters, could not get enough of that. Then we ordered desserts which were rich beyond imagining, darkly chocolate (OMG! my fav!) non-dairy, and made without refined sugars (doesn't get any better than that!). The Chocolate Ganash cake and Chocolate Chip Brownie were incredible but after that delightful meal, we had to box them up they were so rich and such generous portions we had to take them with us to the hotel. We came back a day later and sampled their chocolates - all dark chocolate, no dairy! My favorite one was marzipan mixed with Saffron and Rose and was shaped like a jewel. I also found some rare essential oils that I haven't seen anywhere else (Tuberose and Lotus), Gorgeous Selenite crystals, Supplements, and a nice selection of Kombuchas among a wide variety of natural foods. We've been enjoying Keijwa Creation's Rose Kombucha each night with dinner, it is in our opinion, better than wine. We will be ordering lots more... Avoid like the plague......which you might get if you eat the food! A bunch of dirty hippies in kitchen with dreads dropping in your soup! I had a bug in my food. No joke. Complained about this and was insulted by the owner (more below)! But it gets worse! :-) The food is vastly overpriced and skimpy, skimpy (do you hear me?!?) skimpy on the portions. You'll be hungry when you leave, nommatter what you get. When I was there last, customers were joking about how they went to the Red Planet Diner after to get fries as they were still hungry! Might be a fine place if all you do is eat carrot juice and smoke grass and lay around all day long........ The chocolates taste AWFUL.......the fat in them is RANCID (that is toxgenic, mutogenic and thrombagenic, btw!) and they cost around 5 bucks for a tiny piece EACH! Yay, they are "raw". So go buy a pound of raw cacao powder at New Fronteirs for ten bucks and make your own by adding honey! Voila. The vibe: cliquish and pretentious. The owner--a gray haired old chap--is absolutely RUDE and ARROGANT!!! You ask him for something, and he very derogatively told us to "go get it ourselves"! He was a complete pusillaminous prig! The workers were alright (although dirty), but they all seemed scared of him. He did not treat them nicely. This place can only be in business because it's the only game in town. Well, almost. Go across the street to New Frontiers instead--awesome food, and super friendly and clean people! Save yourself the money, quite possibly a stomach ache and the runs, and poisoning by folk uneducated about the harms caused by peroxidized fats!!! Run, run, run to New Frontiers, where they have a clue. Or Pizza Picasso where they use all organic ingredients and make some of the best salads, pizzas and meals in town--and with big portions!!! read more

I really dislike giving bad reviews but I've been a vegan for 4 years and never have I come across a vegan restaurant where I felt so completely uncomfortable and turned off. We decided to go eat in the back patio, and they warned us that there was a bunch of mosquitoes... I didn't think it would be that bad until we went outside and saw multiple tables complaining about them, one man looked extremely distressed.. We went back and sat inside. I looked at the menu and asked the server what she recommended. This was the turning point I've never experience a server that made the food seem so unappealing. I've been a raw vegan on and off and none of the food on the menu even interested me. She recommended a few items and really just made them seem horrible. Then my meat eating companions were going to order the veggie burger and she blatantly told them that the veggie burger was dry and advised them not to order it. As we were standing there a man was at the counter getting take out and we literally heard him talking about the horrid taste of the veggie burger. We ordered the raw sampler before we decided to leave the restaurant so we had to eat it. I would give it a 3/5. The hummus was good for raw hummus, but I've had better. Maybe I'm just spoiled with all the great vegan fare we have in Los Angeles.. I'm a big fan of the Chocolatree packaged goods that they sell at Whole Foods in California.. But I would never go to this place again.. What a shame because there is such limited vegan options in Sedona. I got the raw coconut chocolate cake to go and it was pretty good but it didn't have a lot of taste and I have had much better vegan deserts elsewhere. read more

Up here for the weekend with Darlock. The weather: gorgeous. The locale: gorgeous. Darlock: outrageous. Which meant that everything was normal. We stopped in after a hike to that Buddha Temple across and down the road. Thought vegetarian was appropriate after walking our ages around the temple. (if you go there, you'll get it). We sat outside in their beautiful little garden. Like, where they pick your food. It's not quite the same as visiting a slaughterhouse. The vegetables all sit there quietly in the ground just waiting for their chance to become part of the circle of life. No one used any fossil fuels to drive them to us. No oil was used in the fertilizer (do you know cows are the biggest contributer to climate change... 18% of greenhouse gases come from cow farts... seriously). So this place was sustainable. And it looked like someone's backyard. Darlock approved. I ordered a Viva Burrito which came with a yummy guac and salsa. Hadn't tried a raw burrito before, but this one was good. Darlock tried the soft tacos. I was afraid of the vegan cheese, but I liked the bite I took. The birds chirped. We ate. The sun shown down on the red rocks all around us. And it was good. Then came dessert. Yes, I said came. The Chocolate Puddin' Pie took me places the Buddhist Temple, the red rocks and the yoga class later couldn't even begin to take me. (And Darlock's not that kind of girl...). So go to Sedona. Go for the red rocks. Go for the Buddhists. Go for the birds and the sun and the yoga. But come for the Chocolate Puddin' Pie. read more

I feel really bad writing this review, but I must warn you that this place was terrible. If you are vegan like I am (or just love amazing food) and get excited because you found a place with decent reviews, I would suggest to find somewhere else. The setting is gorgeous but that's about the only thing going for it. I really can't decide which I loved more - the smoothie that looked unnervingly similar to runny excrement or the metal flavored water that was freshly served warm. If you imagined a pile of mud with a swirl of condiments the color of crushed dreams you might almost be able to taste the veggie burger that I had the displeasure of consuming less than two bites of. I would say that this tasted like kids running around and collecting things they found in nature and playing restaurant with no prior cooking experience but it almost seems like an insult to children. I wish I were exaggerating. I kept looking around wondering how people were sitting around happily eating. Maybe they were put under the same delusional spell that the owners have themselves under. I did give one star because I can't give a review without doing so. I am not by any means a picky eater and it's awfully scary when the medicine to settle your stomach tastes better than the "food". It's also disappointing when you go to a place with 4/5 stars and realize it's all a facade and spend the rest of your evening trying not to unleash the monstrosity wreaking havoc on your gut. read more

I have traveled all over the world. This is the best restaurant I have ever been to! Not only is this place 100% organic, gulten-free and processed sugar-free, everything they serve you is made in house. So when I got my Veggie Burger, they make the patty, they bake the bread, they make the ketchup, they make the mustard! You get it. Where else in today's day and age is this even considered. It's funny to me to read some of the reviews that it takes a while to be served here. First of all, that was not my experience. The food was delivered to my table in less than 10 minutes. Furthermore, these reviewers are comparing this place to other restaurants that take their pre-packaged food out of the freezer and zap it in a microwave. The desserts here are all made from nuts and seeds and coconut meat and are all delicious! I have the Chocolate Ganache pie whenever I go here and it is hands down the best chocolate dessert I've ever eaten. After all, their name is ChocolaTree! Go there! The friendly atmosphere is alone worth the trip over here. Service is always extremely friendly and the staff is super knowledgeable about all of the food preparation processes as well as the supplements and goodies on their shelves. This place is absolutely amazing! And trust me, I'm not a granola by any stretch of the imagination. These bad reviews on YELP absolutely disgust me. They are all based on tattle tales worries about people not wearing masks. NOT the restaurant and the amount of time, thought and preparation that goes into the insanely quality food and ingredients this place uses. If your actually into health, or have a deeper knowledge of natural health and food that organically comes from the earth, and fuels the body to be strong and healthy then this mask situation wouldn't even cross your mind. So that is that. These negative reviewers need to stick to French Fries and burgers at the tourist traps downtown that are "full of flavor" ..... their palate is clearly on par with a 3 year old. I'll finish by saying, I've been to a TON of vegan/vegetarian places all around the world. In Arizona, ChocolaTree is by far the best I've found. Most Vegan places are actually quite unhealthy with only one focus of not using animal products. ChocolaTree is so creative with ingredients and every time I'm blown away by the flavor profiles they accomplish with things that could be a "bland" ingredient. Truly Amazing! read more

The food is okay but pricey for the quality and quantity. There are much better vegan restaurants in Sedona. Parking is a nightmare. Basically, they don't have close to enough parking for the size of the restaurant. Finding a place to park in Sedona is difficult at best, at this place it's impossible. You must contend with the mosquitoes. They provide mosquito repellent, but who wants to cover themselves in mosquito repellent just to get something to eat. It's basically a vegan fast food restaurant (except that getting your food is anything but fast). You have to do everything yourself. You order when you get in, you find a place to sit, you get your own utensils, napkin, and water. The service, what little there is, is really bad. Very unprofessional and so slow. Expect to wait at least 45 min for your food to be prepared. All in all, this place has been over-hyped. Don't waste your time on this expensive restaurant with okay food and horrible service. read more

What a major disappointment! I went to Arizona from Michigan driving through Sedona remembering that Sedona is one of the premiere places for vegan/ vegetarian hippie types such as myself. I find the most highly acclaimed vegan /vegetarian restaurant called the Chocola Tree. I make special effort to go there held my appetite anticipating a fine tasty beautiful vegan dining experience. Instead I get the worst service! Second rate food! Once I voiced my dissatisfaction, they tried to sweep it under the rug, eventually, I received the most insincere apology followed by mediocre half- hearted attempt to make right the situation for a distressed customer! We were the only african-americans there. The east Indian couple who came in after us left before we received our entree! In the bathroom they stock "Authentic African Black Soap". Pretty much tells you all you need to know. If you are self-important, have money to waste, and have a colonialist understanding of non-western cultures then you'll love this place. Sit in the garden with your nose held high and reminisce about how you're closer to Gaya because you coughed up 18 dollars for something you could have made at home (with twice the flavor). Nothing quite like hippy dippy white people from Los Angeles offering trivialized interpretations of alternative cultures. In other words, NAMASTE CHOCOLATREE On a positive note: It was amusing to see the equally docile and pretentious ChocolaTree staff whine and make futile efforts to voice disapproval to an adjacent business for the loud process of painting a wall overlooking the garden. This place was super quaint, loved the atmosphere and the fact it had a little shop filled with oils, crystal & other some Veg grocery staples. The service was fast, it seemed like we got our food under 8 minutes...we had the sampler for 2 to start & WOW 100% Raw and the flavors were amazing. My husband and I have been Vegan for decades (well one decade for me!) and we were very pleased with what we ordered. Portions were a little small, but well worth the quality of the dish. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars was because I would have loved to see some Kid friendly dishes, they do have a Veggie Burger, but other than that, there was not really anything else saying kid friendly. Our kids have been raised completely Vegetarian and we really like going to restaurants that make it fun for our children's lifestyle...I will say though I got the baby to eat the Dahl! read more

Unless you are really into strange tasting foods, stay away. My wife and I are both vegetarians, in fact she is vegan. That's why we came to this place for dinner. The menu descriptions sounded interesting and good. While the food is organic and fresh and made right there, it's very strange tasting combinations of food. Strange flavors. Maybe you can get used to it but this was not a pleasant experience, taste wise. Other aspects of the visit were great. The service was great. The ambiance was great. There was live folk music playing that was actually quite good. We decided to try their home made chocolates which run $2-5 a piece. They make the chocolate from cocoa beans themselves, grinding up the beans, etc. The final product is actually quite good, but I wouldn't repeat the experience for those kind of prices. read more

It's totally hippy, the server doesn't write down an order, messed up the easiest thing, a regular menu item, hold cucumbers, and they got that wrong, pay attention. We were charged 21 dollars worth of extras that were not ordered nor eaten, specifically a $5 kids waffle, with 16 bucks worth of sauces and butters?? and the non-kids itesm, aka the regular menu, the serving sizes are for recovering anorexics. The Mediterranean Wrap ($12) is 200 calories. Like really? Thats a snack, and doesnt even taste good. If you want a vegan MEAL that will actually taste good and fill you up, go down the road to one of the many other Vegan restaurants instead. I just left hungry, upset, and ripped off. read more

Setting. The one star is for the picturesque setting. If there was the option to subtract stars for other facets of the experience, then I would this rate this place a negative three out of five. The following are terms that I have used to describe my dining experience, the quality of the food I was presented with and how I felt after ingestion; Abysmal, befouling, corrupted, diabolical, eroding, farcical, grievous, harrowing, indecent, jeopardising, lacklustre, miserable, nauseating, offensive, painful, queasy, rancid, sickening, toxic, unwell, vile, woeful and just yuck. The has been the BEST raw vegan restaurant I have EVER had the pleasure of eating at. Not only is the menu fun and exciting - the food is absolutely fantastic. My partner and I visited Sedona this past month and the Chocolate Tree was the only restaurant we went to the entire trip. We kept going back for more. The juices are amazing, as well as the lemonade! Every menu item we tried was bursting with flavor and satisfied our entire being. The deserts are to die for and I loved the ambiance. The Chocolatree has the best garden and metaphysical gifts! There is so much more to this wonderful restaurant but I must say.... VISIT IT! Five star! I love it! read more
