Until recently, the TV's in front of the treadmills had a nice mix of stations and I could always find a local news station in the morning (usually channel 5) Now there are four sports stations, two Fox stations, and two Spanish speaking stations. I have asked several times if a local news station could be added to the mix and also emailed my request. Honestly, it's very sad that your stair master machines are always broken at choice fitness elite Methuen. I pay enough money a month so when I go there, I shouldn't have to use a different machine because most of the stair-master machines are broken . You do realize people work for a living? On top of this, there are signs all over the place stating strict rules that make you feel unwelcome. My gym and I love it here, if you are looking for a fancy gym do not come here at all... if you want a gym that will make you work, sweat and gain power... This is the right place for you. If you are a fan of hammer strength machines, they have some of the best. The place is always clean, staff is always friendly.. I never encountered a problem here as I been coming here for years. Plenty of cardio machines, classes and babysitting also available. New ownership and they are always making new updates. free wifi and sometimes it works thats the only problem.. juice bar with all the good protein shakes available too. prices are same as anywhere parking: there is plenty also hand sanitizers dispensers located everywhere in the gym, and spray bottles to clean up after your workout. Them germs nowadays need to be careful.. people just nasty LOL.. Best time early you will have the place to yourself,the worst time ever is after 6pm. read more

A few days before COVID-19 I attempted to end my membership. I was told I had to go into the office. When I called I got voice mail and left numerous messages. Finally they canceled my membership but I now have a past due bill? Now I am being told I could have emailed them? Why was I never given this option. Decent gym if you're looking to wait 30 minutes to use a bench. This place scams people when they try to cancel their membership, with an invigorating cancellation process, that should take no more than 30 seconds. They claim you can email them but I had to go in person to write a letter and sign it. I highly advise anyone considering going to this gym to find another one in the area that's quieter and better priced. read more

I signed up for this gym ... Well because Covid. Like most people that sign up for gyms on a whim... I was most likely never going to push myself to go. Brian called. It said Choice Fitness on the caller ID. I knew if I didn't answer, I was never going. So I answered. I'm so glad I did! Brian booked a one time free personal training session. But lets be real, who even shows up to those right? I pumped myself up ... I was doing this! Come the morning of I was scared, nervous, and made every excuse! I asked my boyfriend if he'd judge me if I didn't go or if I rescheduled ... To my surprise he said Yes!!! So off I went. He knew I'd be so mad at myself for not going. When I got there Brian was so welcoming, didn't make me feel terrible for my current state and worked on a program that will work for me! I loved it so much, I signed up for at least a few more classes, to learn more! Looking forward to making this place a new part of my routine. So far, I highly recommend!! Choice fitness maintains a ridiculous policy that you can only cancel with 1 of 3 managers in person and hold your contract over your head. The managers don't work accommodating schedules for people that work a normal job and they couldn't care less. On top of that they are not willing to negotiate refunds with people that are donating to their gym and do not attend. I live and work away from town. I have made several attempts to cancel without success as no one is ever there. Absurd policy to keep collecting money, I must be your perfect member. Went to CF as a guess and i was harassed upon entering and exiting the gym by the staff. They have been sending me unwanted text messages. I figured it must be a machine sending me these texts because they kept sending them like every other gyms i tried out before committing to. When i handed the staff my ID, they literally threw it at me and looked at me with an attitude. This was by far THE WORST gym experience I have ever had in my life. Take your business elsewhere guys dont waste your time with these clowns. However, i will be coming back as a guess once a week to follow up with my client only because it is convenient for him. I had originally worked out at CF when I was in HS and just recently returned. I had signed up again because it was winter, snow on the ground, and I needed somewhere to train for a 39.3 mile walk I was doing; other than that I wouldn't of joined. This location has NO CLASSES, and although the gym is a good size they don't use it well. Good luck trying to get on a squat rack, the weights are sub par. If you want a treadmill they have plenty of those ! Staff is friendly, but they push personal training too much ! If I need your assistance I'll ask. So if you like to walk on the treadmill, wait hours for a squat rack, enjoy viewing daps/bro hugs & people taking selfies for days come on in & join ! read more

This place is getting better I go to this gym location because it's closer to my home. It is a lot bigger than other locations it can be a bit intimidating but that's my anxiety self, lol but I really been trying hard to workout and all the machines are great and so much to do there is no way you will get bored. I think the music should be kicked up a bit more 80's or pump up music and today's hits. Bathrooms are really clean the gym is clean some people don't wipe the machines/equipment after finishing with it, which drives me insane so I make sure I wipe off the machines/and equipments before I use. read more

Ok, first off there are 5 filtered reviews on this place. After reading them, I don't know why they were filtered but, I'm sure this one will be as well. I went to the Methuen rt 110 location. It's a fair price, a nice place, & I unlike the others that wrote reviews, I thought the people that worked there were very nice. It's the members that go there that I have an issue with. I have to say that like anything else in life, you get what you pay for & when something is cheap, it attracts those that want something cheap. Way too many people in this place sweat profusely all over the cardio equipment and barely pat a paper towel over their swill. That really sickened me however, the icing on the cake came when an extremely large woman pulled up the cardio machine next to me. She must've marinated her self in 3 gallons for 99 cents perfume & I was literally gagging. I paid a year up front, didn't even last 2 months & went & joined Latitude. I've been a member at Choice Fitness many years ago. I recently began going to them again with a friend who has a guest pass membership, allowing to bring a friend for free. Also, because they remodeled the entire gym and even made their hours of operation 24hrs which really had me interested. The equipment has always been great, offering more diverse machines than most other gyms I've been to which I really like. However, today I went to the gym with my friend and was confronted by a different employee before going in asking, "have you been a member here before?" which previously I was never asked by other employees. I was honest and told him I was like 10+ years ago. He then proceeded to tell me if you had a membership with us before that you are not allowed to utilize the guest pass under another member. I let him know that it was a ridiculous rule since I haven't gone here for over a decade! He proceeded to tell me they do it because they want to "encourage" people to not cancel their current memberships and have their friend add $5 extra to their membership so they can utilize the guest pass instead, ultimately saving money of course between the two people. I let him know that they shouldn't have a guest pass if that was the case because that's what you guys have contracts for and everyone has different circumstances to not want to fulfill a contractual membership. Ultimately, he said theirs nothing he can do and that I can go in that day with no problem but wouldn't be allowed next time. I'm giving two stars because the equipment is great but the rules they have for guest services are ridiculous and their staff seem to be inconsistent on how they handle things individually. I go to Latitude down the street which is more expensive and not 24 hours but they are at least transparent with everything and offer a ton of amenities which include a basketball court, a pool, a running track and much more. read more

Attempting to speak to employees and someone who claims to be a manager here about this issue & how to solve it was dragged on for way longer than necessary. This gym offers low monthly rates, but make no mistake, they will scam you and take more than the $10/month. I signed up for a "$10/month, cancel anytime, no annual fee" plan, and what I got was far from it. For the 3 years that I was a member, I was charged a $50 annual fee each year, on top of the $10 monthly. My biggest issue was when I attempted to cancel my "no contract/cancel anytime" plan. There is not 1 link in their website to cancel, and no mention of a corporate office to contact. I went to the gym in person and was told that I would have to "come back when the manager is around" to cancel (I wonder what happens if you move out of the area and need to cancel. Hmm). I went back hours later and the manager cancelled my account, but informed me that I would have to pay this year's annual fee of $50 and pay $10 ahead for the following month in order to cancel. This of course made no sense as my billing date was a week from today, but I paid it just to be done with this ordeal. I only give this place a 2 star because the equipment itself always worked well, but the staff definitely does not enforce their rules. There are groups of people that just come in to socialize around machines and interfere with people that want to actually work out. A lot of these goons don't clean up after themselves and leave sweat all over the benches. All in all, I guess I got what I paid for. If the place actually felt good about the services they provide, they wouldn't try to trap people into staying with them. read more

Decent gym for the price of $10/mo. I don't have any issues with getting a cardio machine to use. They are always in good working order. They just put in WiFI. Issue is it is only good near the front desk area. They need to put an Extender into the router so you can have WiFi further into the gym. read more

Good luck trying to actually workout at this gym, staff comes running over to me while Im deadlifting and tells me im making too much noise and that im disturbing people. Didn't know your gym was a damn library. Cancelling my membership and will be taking my money elsewhere. So sick of these commercial gyms and there "no making noise rules" and "no using chalk rules.." What is this planet fitness? Guess all gyms are going in that direction nowadays. This CF has new turf and a new class room area. Their trainers are great. As for the negative reviews they've received...all gyms charge annual fees. Those are not "surprise" charges. Also, as far as being reprimanded for "making noise", I've never seen that happen to anyone; ever...and I've heard some dudes make some seriously unnecessary "look how buff I am" grunts. The only reason I give this GYM two starts it's because of the staff not the manager. When I went to signed up everything was good and picture perfect. After I was done sign the contract the manager (Anthony) said that I shouldn't be a problem that I don't look like the type that would go to a GYM and have problems with others. Promises promises !! I paid a $100 fee to join the N Andover Club. I was told if I wanted to use the other 2 clubs, I could either change my home club, or pay an extra $5 bucks a month (ok that's sounds like a good deal). Well after about a year I exercised that option. After a few months, I found I was not using the other clubs as much as I thought, so I decided to revert back to the single club membership. At that time I was told I could change it back, but they would start charging me $39.99 a year to "freeze" my monthly rate (even though you can now join for no money down, stupid me for joining at a low rate because it was a new club at the time.). Makes no sense !! A friend of mine just tried to switch his home club from Haverhill to N Andover and was told he had to sign a new contract after a long term membership. (this way the owner gets his annual "freeze" rate. The owner of this club is pretty arrogant. He also has a habit of shutting down the steamrooms and saunas for months because they are expensive to run. When people complain about anything the owner says he don't care and to go somewhere else. I am dumping the membership and going somewhere else. read more

As the other user explained, their restrictions are absurd. They use to proclaim no annual membership fees, but have a mandatory annual $39 fee to keep the price (which hasn't changed in years) from going up, and I thought that was what the contract was for. They have black out dates for guests, if the person was a member in the past, they can't come in as a guest, which is absurd, cause two single memberships would generate them the same $20/month as the single membership with guest privileges, except that the single membership would promote their club less. They have no customer service or business skills. Plenty of other gyms, offering better service at the same price. I would not recommend, and I will never go back. read more

This was the worst customer service experience ever. They are so hungry for business that they let a clearly handicap person sign up for a membership knowing that (just by looking at him) there was no way that he could use 1/10th of the equipment. They promised a "wonderful" trainer blah blah. Pretty poor in order to get $10 a month. I tried to cancel the membership for him and was given the extreme run around. I asked to speak to the manager and was told to come at certain times. I took time out of work to go meet this so, called manager but she never showed up. The desk staff are rude and immature. I finally wrote a letter, paid the termination fee and dropped it off at the gym. I asked to have a confirmation call that the membership was cancelled. I of course never received one. After I started receiving collection calls, I again drove to the gym to find out if the membership was cancelled. The desk staff very intelligently said, "um I think so, you are not in the system, so I guess it was cancelled" I still received yet another call because the "manager" did not process my cancellation for a month. I was told that I owe another $10. The person at the financial services company was very apologetic and said that she would make a note in the file to cease calling. This gym is awful. I got a membership there in September and they billed my account the $10 that they should have and everything was alright with that. Come October 1st, they say that my account is invalid and they keep calling me telling me to go online and make sure everything is correct. I go online to my account for Choice Fitness and it says it is the same account that they used for the previous month. Now, I checked my bank account to see how much money is in there and I see that 2 days ago they took out $25 dollars!!!! How can they take out money if that is "not the correct account"? After that I checked my billing history on the Choice Fitness website and it shows $10 for my membership, $10 for a service charge (what the hell is that?), and then $5 for a late fee. Ummm I was NOT the one who was late! You guys screwed up! Monday I am going down there to cancel my membership. I have been a member here for years, starting in high school and re-signed up after I graduated college. The gym has always served my personal workout needs with plenty of cardio machines and basic free weight equipment. However, recently they have done many renovations and my experience has gone waaaaayy down. They eliminated all the stretching areas to create a child care area (which I never ever see being used) and a "group" fitness area. There is one large stretching/free weight section in the middle but it is always being used by some special cross training class. Nothing against the class but shouldn't it be held in the "group" class area? Either that or open up the group area to people to use when classes aren't being held. I have been told to move out of this stretching area because people pay extra for this cross training class, but where else am I supposed to go?? I don't "pay extra" but I still pay for a monthly membership, so I feel I have a right to at least stretch out at the gym. read more

Was great at first, nice & clean. The morning staff woman is a peach. OTHERWISE, their business practices & 30 cancellation policy are both misleading & horrible. I cancelled our memberships on 12/28/12, was told it was effective for 12/31/12; which also meant I could no longer attend after 12/31/12. Asked them point blank if I would be charged anymore fees and they said no. I could understand if I was charged the monthly rate (of which I believe is a pending transaction). I just checked my account and they took out 2 "non-refundable" annual $39 fees for both memberships. An annual fee for a gym I will not be attending, are you serious? Called for a refund of the fees, was told they were non-refundable and there was nothing I could do because it fell under the 30 day cancellation policy. Was also a member of the personal training company that is part of their facility, but a separate company, Custom Built...yet another company with poor business practices, went through 4 managers in a year, but overall overpriced ($45 per half hour session). The contract when you sign up is a 12 month contract of which you have to pay the first & last month's payment to get started, then an automatic withdrawal from your account each month. My trainers were great, learned a lot and got great results. They held up very well during all the turnover they experienced and how much they were limited to train us because the company wanted them to do things to "T". I will forever be thankful to them for helping me change my life. I was approached by the Custom Built district manager to rejoin the training program, chose to meet with him then after careful thought decided I would not be entering a new contract and cancelled my appt and thanked him for his effort but it was not something I could continue. I received what was a very ignorant & rude text back, because he had traveled to the office from out of state "to meet just with me". I don't recall it being my problem that his job requires travel and handled it very poorly. As far as Choice Fitness & Custom Built, in an effort to save someone else the hassle & loss of $$, I would never recommend them, if you choose to go with them, read every letter you sign your name under and be prepared for let down and deceitful business practices even after reading every letter. There are plenty of better gyms and personal trainers out there who deserve your business far more than these two companies do. read more
