Ugh. Locking myself out the front door is such a hassle, but when the garage keypad fails too. Sheesh talk about adding insult to injury. Ahhhh. It's just before 4pm on 12.31.2010 and I've just realised I lost my house keys. Freaking out that I might not find a Locksmith that is available on new years eve, I turn to yelp for help. After several no answers and answering machines later, finally find a biz that answers the phone in a courteous professional manner...and he says he can be here in 30min, and further asks if that's ok. Hells yeah!! Exactly 30min later, he arrives with the van. An hour later, he he's in the door with the 3keys I requested. He needed to change the cylinder inside, three spare keys, service fee and labour turned out to be $111.10. I expected more since a lot if Locksmith will take full advantage of the situation, but not Jeff. Jeff certainly made a bad situation better, in a short period of time with out charging an arm and a leg. After accidentally locking our only working remote inside our garage, replacing the battery in the backup remote (which still didn't work), calling our landlord to see if he had a key or remote (which he didn't, and said he could come by "maybe sometime this weekend" to look at it), and calling our HOA to see if they could help us (they couldn't), our car was still trapped in the garage and we had no choice but to call a locksmith. Luckily the HOA recommended Jeff at Choice Locksmithing & Security. We gave him a call, and he was able to come by that evening to take a look. Who wants to call a locksmith they found on Yelp or the Yellow Pages? Or worse, a handyman from Craigslist? Not me. I want someone who's been recommended by people I trust. After all, this is about protecting my prized possessions and giving people access to my valuables. If you're sketchy and trying to break into someone's else's place, Jeff is going to ask you for appropriate ID and proof of ownership, instead of helping you commit a felony. He's a certified locksmith, not some scam artist with a set of lock picks. Jeff showed up at the end of his business day, without charging us for an emergency fee, equipped with a full-service high-tech locksmithery in the back of his sweet, fully loaded Mercedes van, ready to get this problem solved NOW. $95 later, the garage had been unlocked using a brand new key, made on site, and we had 2 keys in our possession in case of further emergencies. It might seem expeez, but just try calling the garage door specialists. Yikes! Jeff also showed us how to program a new remote, which we are off to purchase tomorrow morning, as ours is a piece of junk (thanks for nothing, Sears). My husband ended up having a near 2-hour conversation with him because he was a super cool guy, and they had a lot in common. They were in full smitten technie tool-loving bro-mance, it seemed, but I had to shut it down due to starvation. This was, after all, the dinner hour, and we needed to take that car out of the newly liberated garage to get some groceries! $95 might seem pricey, but as Sears was quoting us $75 just to come out and look at it (without even promising any work would be done), we figured a locksmith was a better bet. Jeff's mobile van did it all, right on site, and he offered us some good tips for added garage security as well. While we will probably never end up locking ourselves out of our garage again (fingers crossed!), Jeff is definitely our first choice for any other lock-related issues in San Diego. 5 stars for service and customer service. read more

You Yelpers did not disappoint! Jeff came over to re-key the house we just moved into. He was easy to chat with via text, which seems to be his preferred method of communication. He drives a "mobile workshop" so he has everything he needs with him and ready. We had 2 standard doors with dead bolts, and then a sliding patio door with a key lock as well (didn't even know that was an option for sliding doors!). I had texted him a photo while scheduling the appt to see if I needed to buy new locks. Luckily he said nope, just needs new keys. He re-keyed all three to match, and made 6 copies, and I even added in 2 fun Padres themed keys to give to the parents/in-laws should we ever need to use them. (would have been cool if he had other "themed" keys with him to choose from, but he only had Chargers and Padres.) I showed him the locks, he asked for the keys, and went about his business. But I can see that he was doing everything he could within his power. He's working the place by himself and trying real hard to take good care of people. But the prices for things for labor and items ended up being higher than what they quoted on the phone when I made the appointment. For example, the copies of the keys were a buck more each than what they said. It's not a lot, but it makes me wonder why the disconnect. He was friendly and clearly knew his stuff and was happy to explain what he was doing. He clearly explained our options and gave us an extremely good price, particularly for the amount of time he spent working on the problem. When he rekeyed the lock and gave us new keys, he also threw in an extra "master" key that he told us not to use so we could make duplicates down the road from a pristine key rather than one that was worn down. AWESOME service! I had an after hours lock emergency and Jeff was on my doorstep less than 30 minutes after I called. The deadbolt on my door randomly decided to malfunction and the door couldn't be locked. Jeff was able to fix it super fast. I had another issue with the door being out of place and he fixed that issue while he was here. It was about $100 for everything (parts, labor, service call) which is very reasonable - especially considering it was after hours.
