Overall, it was just average. We also ordered the Strawberry Pistachio Tart. The strawberries were fresh with a nice balance of sweetness, and there was a good amount of pistachio chunks. However, it lacked the layers of flavor that make a tart memorable. On the bright side, the coffee was excellent and easily my favorite part of the visit. I'd happily come back for a coffee, but I'd probably try different pastries next time.

Gary's only allows to order the fresh mango cakes up to one week ahead to ensure they have enough ripe mangos, which I admire their dedication. We ordered the 6 inch cake for 9 people (7 adults and 2 kids) and everyone got a thin to average slice. The cake is definitely prettier than the other fresh mango cakes on the market, has a lot more mangos that are perfectly ripe and sweet, there is less wipped cream, and the sponge cake is softer. The family agreed that Gary's has the best fresh mango cake but at $69 for a 6 inch cake, versus $43 for a 6 inch mango cake from Saint Germaine, a cake from Gary's is definitely a treat and for special occasions. Is Gary's worth the premium price? I think so but not everyone in my family agreed. One thing to note: Gary's do offer cake in a jar that's $8.50 each. When we went, they had a BOGO deal with the mango cake jars. My nephew asked my sister to buy the BOGO deal knowing that the 6 inch cake was not going to be enough, as the kids like having a second slice of cake.

For the love of all things good and right, do not give these people your business. I'm only referring to the store on West 57th. This store is run by 12yo children that do not understand how to run a grocery store. If you have to frequent a Choices, select ANY of their other locations. The people entrusted to put in orders clearly don't pay attention to what sells well in the store and will stop carrying items on a whim. They don't know anything about the products they carry and if you are misfortunate enough to speak with a so called 'manager', you better have good hearing and can decipher through mumbles. "Uh....um....uh....I don't know. It's...uh...not up to me to order stuff..." Isn't that what a manager is supposed to oversee? Take heart though, they will likely carry everything you're looking for at the West 16th location. The added advantage of travelling out of your way is that this location is run by adults who understand both customer service AND how not to look like a babbling infant. Better yet, give your business to Whole Foods and let this local farce-of-a-store die. This former customer would rather still dull pencils in their eyes than to EVER go to the West 57th location again. read more

I love the selection of Choices... This is my second favorite Grocery Store in Vancouver, after Urban Fare! Their organic selection is vaste and the imported goods are everywhere. They are also very affordable so I believe low income people can still afford their products, which is very important nowadays, as the economy is not doing so good! Ever so fresh and tasty soup and sandwich and butter icing deserts :/). That was a premade post though very good. Sandwiches and Soup are very good. I feel confident that the food is quality and local. And healthy choices made available for customers. And I appreciate the accumulation of points that earn a $20 off groceries. read more

It is comparable to T&T, but has a more Westernized vibe as it looks more like a Save On Foods or Safeway store. The Richmond store is located conveniently just off No. 3 Road. Parking is a bit tough on the weekends. The lot is also shared with some other businesses in the same plaza. Sale prices can be good, though you will need the store card to get the discount. I did not find the pricing on the traditional grocery items to be great. I would recommend shopping at Real Canadian Superstore instead for a better selection and value. Still, it is a good place to shop if you just want to go to one store for everything you need, even if you have to pay more for some things.

On my last visit, I was looking for Arborio rice and saw that the prices for Thai jasmine rice and Kokuho rose rice were very fair and were even lower than the other stores. Same for the original popular Huy Fong sriracha sauce. The prices for both big and small bottles were not jacked up insanely with the current shortage. I like getting the frozen pies here. They stock Aussie Pie Guy which I love. Occasionally I will get Ernest ice cream here too. The price is the same as the ice cream shop itself. There is also a coffee shop inside (Caffe Artigiano) with seating. There is a good variety of artisan bread here and the grab and go meals are pretty good. If you like to shop local, this is a good place.

They have been sued in a class-action lawsuit for its role in a price-fixing scheme for packaged bread and has agreed to a $500 million settlement with its parent company, George Weston Ltd. The claims process for the settlement is now open to eligible Canadians who purchased packaged bread between 2001 and 2021. I've seen Silver Hills bread selling for $7.99 a loaf. The same bread sold for less than $6.00 at IGA and Safeway. Unethical practice by the owner / operator.

Prices are on the higher side, but the ingredients are not skimpy. I bought a salad for $8 and it had a lot of tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and more importantly thick slices of bocconcini ! During the holidays, such as Thanksgiving, they have ready made meals that contain turkey slices, stuffing, cranberry, gravy, glazed carrots, ham that you can purchase for one or for two. They also have a few of these in family sizes if you just want to concentrate on making the turkey and want to buy the rest. The last thing I like about this place is the meat. I will say that most of the time you'll find better deals elsewhere. I think Buy Low knows their consumers know that, and they're okay with it. No Frills is a ten minute walk away towards Cambie. Nesters across the street is pricier, sure, but probably doesn't have the variety of Buy Low. Hours you say? 8 to 9 everyday. For my one visit to Buy Low, I probably go downstairs to Shoppers Drug Mart ten times. There's nothing wrong with this grocery store. It's well kept, well staffed at the counters and is probably the least sketchy part of Kingsgate mall! For lack of a better description, though it's forgettable.
