Like the wide selection of Eastern Europeans goods here. Prices are above average, but not unreasonably expensive. Store layout is clear so it's easy to find things. Not everything has English labels so it's tougher to do exploratory shopping if you aren't familiar with the products. Store clerks were nice, but highly preferential towards the regulars who spoke Russian. Warning: carefully inspect packaging for Expiry/Packaged On dates. I found out that, after the fact, quite a bit of the stuff I bought wasn't very fresh. Threw away two out of four cheeses because they were pretty far gone. They were so bad that I did not feel it was worth holding onto it to bring back to the store for a refund, just wanted to be rid of it. I take responsibility that I should've checked better, but it's poor business practice for the store to be carrying inventory that isn't safe for patrons. Hope to see this improved on. read more

As several have written, this little spot offers a very wide variety of traditional Eastern European delicacies with a heavy focus on Russian products. A few of the highlights for me: - They have at least 10 different kinds of canned sprats. I love spreading their smokey goodness on a thick piece of Russian rye bread. - They have a large selection of very nice looking whole smoked fish. - They have an incredible variety of pierogi (including sweet cherry, sour cherry, potato, cheese, etc., etc.). - They have at least 6 different varieties of sushki (vanilla, poppy, different shapes, sizes, etc.). These are a dentists' worst nightmare with their tough crunchiness - but oh so delicious! - They have an incredible selection of fruit preserves (at least 40 different varieties) - They have a beautiful pickle and olive bar with a wide selection - They have a nice selection of Eastern European cheese and deli meats that they will slice to order This is really a great little shop, with such a wide variety in such a small space. The staff is really friendly and everyone speaks fluent Russian. (I had no idea there were so many Russian speakers in Vancouver - when I was in there all of the customers were speaking Russian as well - a good sign!) read more

Usually okay but the last couple of times I was here I was sold mouldy cheese. When it gets sliced and packaged by a human being, on the spot, you'd think bluey grey mould would be seen and avoided!! Today, I was treated more rudely by a clerk in this shop than I have ever been in my life, and I will never darken their door again. Alas, I say this as a loyal customer of 15 years, who has loved their meats, cheeses and pastries, not to mention their very pretty and charming staff and has recommended their deli over and over again. Never more! This afternoon, I went into the store and bought several bars of marzipan. Then, in the back corner beside the till, I noticed a colourful new display of Russian trinkets that I hadn't seen before. Tiny Matryoshka dolls. Child-sized aprons. Painted boxes. Fridge magnets. "Ah," I said, "Just in time for Christmas!" I spent some time admiring the gew-gaws and then turned to leave. As I was approaching the door, the salesclerk who had been following me from behind said, "I just want you to know that we have security cameras in the store." I was completely nonplussed, and she repeated herself. I was dazed, but finally gasped, "Why are you telling me this? Do you think I took something?" "Oh, no," she replied, with a meaningful look, "I just want you to know we have security cameras and that I know all the things that are back there." I still haven't made head or tail of this incident, but I have noticed that the deli has quite a high turn-over of staff. Maybe it's time for another one! read more

I feel like I under utilise this place. At just a half block from me, I rarely step in. Today, for example, I went in cause I needed change for laundry and the woman across the street was so perplexed by my request for added change it took her a solid 5 minutes to count out 5$ in change. Anyhoo, when I do step into the Euro Food Plus i'm usually buying bulk olives or those mini boccocini that are so awesome in salads with grape tomatoes, drizzled olive oil and balsamic, fresh lemon zest and fresh basil... oh god summer where are you!??!?!?! But the thing about this place is there's almost too much foreign stuff for me which is a ridiculous thing for me to say cause i love all things crazy and non north american. But in this place I spend way too much time just walking around, the staff seem confused by me not knowing what I want and I end up buying something random to appease them like a stale eastern european ice cream treat (don't do it, pretty sure it was from the USSR days). Today it was almost these weird chicken broth shaped like candy kernels. So odd. Oh and at the deli section i always get distracted by the head cheese. Good lord who buys that? And those crazy pickled eggs!! Having said all this, I fully realize some of the weirdness is probably really good if I give it a chance and I'm just being an uneducated putz. But seriously, my culinary tastes are vaste and I grew up around all kinds of weird foods. But here, I tend to stick with what I know and get out. I don't know what my problem is. Maybe I should challenge myself like I do with produce and try to buy something I've never cooked with once a week. Although that cheyote I got at No Frills last week (whoa No Frills goes ethnic!) is still sitting in my fruit bowl and i'm not sure what to do with it. I really enjoyed my experience in this store as soon as i walked in. Right away it felt that im in a little corner of European city, staff is very welcoming and warm. Great variety of sausages and a lot of meat products to choose from. It took me at least 20 minutes before i could decide what to buy (i wanted everything!) Prices are right and products are fresh and well organized. Many different kinds of cheese as well as the fish. Giving 5 starts in a heart beat, would definitely recommend this store to my friends and family. read more

I came here before meeting up with my girlfriend for ice skating for some euro cookies and spreads. It was junk food time to share. This place is modest in size, however, they know what to do with the space well. No problem tying to find items. I did browse out of fascination as a foodie as I like imported foods. The prices were very fair and market value for imports and the customer service was awesome. I had a craving for orange chocolate cookies...thanks for them. read more

Always walked by this place, so hard for me to say whether I come back, depends how good the Roast beef w/ garlic tastes later ;) The young nice Russian girl was nice to try some other samples of Salami w/ Garlic, wasn't as strong as expected. It's probably a good alternative to next door Safeway. Not sure if it's the Russian-style but the chorizo wasn't spicy at all! Anyways, it's a cool place to check out the Russian/Polish/Ukraine food products, like the different cheeses, coffee grind, other boxed products which I frankly didn't understand. "Plus", what exactly? The owners brought their Communist-style disinterested, lazy service with them to Vancouver. Clerks were too busy chatting in Russian to each other behind the counter to acknowledge me as I waited. I went elsewhere after I saw the expired food they were selling. Jam packed with all the good stuff! If you are Russian who know someone who is, this is the place. Huge variety of goods and excellent choice of fish, tinned and smoked. The only problem is their pelmeni aren't the best, but you can get excellent ones elsewhere. Other than that, the staff are always helpful and the array of sweets is almost daunting! read more

Being a perpetual wanderer, I am prone to finding off-beat little shops here and there throughout Vancouver and Euro Food Plus is one of these shops. I am sure the folks that live in the area come here more than often, because I certainly would. Inside is a deli and shop filled with fresh meats of all varieties (fresh herring and mackerel, used in pickled herring, a particular treat that my Ukrainian mum enjoys) along with cheeses from Poland and Macedonia and all sorts of candies, breads and pickled this and that from all over Eastern Europe. A meat treat for me is always kolbassa, Ukrainian (or Polish) sausage...and it is GOOD here. It definitely helps that the ladies and gentleman behind the counter are straight from the source, being able to offer help with anything you may need. I also picked up some very good home-made hummus. They aren't open on the weekends, so be sure to pick up your Euro-treats after work! read more

I love that when you walk in here, you immediately smell the lovely, cured olives - this is probably because the shop is pretty small and the olives are right by the door, but still! I thought the selection of cured meat and fish was quite good, and the bulk candy selection was reminiscent of that in Russia. The whole shop is packed to the gills, and I was especially impressed by the selection of packaged and especially fresh baked goods. There was bread from European Breads, among other places, and a variety of poppy seed rolls! yum. read more

If you are fish lover - the store has -10% promotion every weekend on fish products, which is awesome, since they have so many different types of dried, smoked and salted fish. Ok, ladies and gentlemen CHECK EXPIRATION DATES! I just bought a chocolate from this place and it turns out to be expired by a month! I called the store and the lady said that it was discounted by 10%, so they legally can sell it PAST EXPIRATION DATE! Hello, you are not doing business in Russia anymore, this is Canada and this kind of an excuse is not acceptable in a civilized country. Anyway, to all of you, especially English speakers only, try to avoid this place at any cost! There is a nice shop Alenka on Fraser if you crave Eastern European food so badly. by the way, I am calling Vancouver Coastal Health tomorrow since they are not only selling packaged goods past expiration date but also meat and fish, and God knows for how long those products have been laying there. Well, I am from Russia and had enough of rude customer service there. Being a customer of this store for many years I had some bad experiences with expired food in this store, never complained though. Today " how did I dare !" I mentioned that the herring I got from them was not fresh. I didn't ask for anything, but the girl ,named Olga ,started screaming at me defending that poor herring, yelling that it was not true.I was shocked and wanted to say that I did need any money back, forgotten already and in the trash. But oh boy did she screamed and yelled. " If you in a bad mood, go away" and so on she was telling me. Bottom line, there are other Russian deli stores around, don't take chances . read more

This store does carry quite a wide variety of Easter European products, and we do sometimes buy eggplant spread, letcho, and some Russia-specific desserts. But every time I go there I have to be really careful, because stuff on the shelves is very often expired several months ago. Like last time, when I wanted to get Russian mayonnaise (which I like the taste better than Hellmans available in every Safeway). They just got the batch, but edges with the expiry dates were carefully heated or otherwise treated, so that expiry date was hardly readable. But when I was finally able to read it - it was July 2011 (and production date was back in December 2009). And it was Christmas Eve 2011 on the calendar! When I tell store staff about expired products, they never take it away, and it continues sitting on the shelve waiting for the next customer, who would not be so sophisticated to decrypt the expiry date on the package... read more

Every time I go to this place, I feel like I am back to Soviet Russia. "Thanks" to the customer service or better said, it's non-existence that staff of the shop provides, whether they are employees or management. For the past 3 years that I lived in Vancouver, I have not experienced a great Russian/Ukrainian store/cafe that I would want to come back just because, and the Euro Food Plus is not exception. What makes me keep coming back is the items that I simply can not find anywhere else except the ethnic stores (like buckwheat, sorrel, sweet treats from childhood, etc.) and feeling of missing my Motherland. I think when passing close by the store: "OK, let's give it another chance!" But then you go there, and you leave with some kind of awkward feeling, the feeling that you get when you go to a Soviet style place back in Soviet Russia and a grumpy woman scolds you for no reason making you feel stupid and diminished. Last time I went there and friendly inquired about cottage cheese: whether it was made of pasteurized milk. The reaction I got from the staff was if I were bugging them with my irrational questions. "What do you mean, "Pasteurized milk"? - said one lady. " What is "pasteurized"???" - said a gentleman. " What pasteurized? It is a REAL cottage cheese made of real milk!!!" - added both of them in one voice expressing themselves like they were insulted... Huh... thank you for being very helpful. At least, if you do not know something about what you sell, be friendly and TRY to be helpful. Customer is giving you profit, not you giving a customer some favor by being in the market. All other times, you go there and the staff does not tell you hello unless you tell them first. Exception was that last time, when I was acknowledged by one young girl - seemed like new staff member. It was very nice! I don't think I would come back anymore, even if I really crave for "something Russian". read more

I went to this store for the first time and asked for smoked ribs so they told me they last for at least a couple of weeks and I got two big whole pieces of them, ($28 each) 3 days after keeping them in my fridge I noticed they were bad I threw one of the to the garbage and decided to go with the other one back to the store just to let them know that they don't last for two weeks as they said, so a lady with no education said that they last for two weeks and they do not return things. I understand there is a policy for returning things but if you are going to sell something like food, then make sure is not expired and you have the knowledge of what tou are seeking and also some education would be good. read more
