My friend got the salmon pot pie for over $7 as well, which was small but more worth the price since it's a savoury pie. During my visit, they had a handful of delicious vegan options to choose from. I ordered the vegan brownie and the peanut butter almond square. The vegan brownie is more of a spongy chocolate cake with a light, non overpowering layer of chocolate icing. For only a few dollars, you get an almost 3 inch thick yummy square that goes down easy and doesn't feel sickeningly chocolatey like most desserts tend to. As for the peanut butter almond square, I think it's safe to say that it's one of my new favourite vegan treats. The base is a chewy chocolate layer that's almost brownie-like, followed by an absolutely delicious layer of creamy peanut butter, then topped with an equal layer of chocolate icing. The three layers combined create a near perfect dessert that'll have you coming back for more! If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend checking out these treats! I had skipped on breakfast as I knew I was going to get something in Granville Island Public Market, and my initial idea was to grab breakfast, lunch for Stanley Park, and a post-ride snack from there. Things changed as I was recommended The Sandbar for lunch, but still needed breakfast. I told myself I'd do a lap, but I froze in spot the moment I saw Laurelle's. I mean, they have so many different types of hand pies, it just makes sense you get a walking around snack from here. And I did just that. It will still take you time to figure out what you want. The salmon roll sounded unique, but I didn't know how well it would hold between there and riding around the park. Same with the shepherd's pie (and I am a sucker for a good shepherd's pie) and the various cheesecake brownie things that I wish I was eating right now. Regular pie slices, cookies, tarts, all of it looked amazing. I settled on the following: -Sausage Roll for walking around: As I hadn't made it halfway through the market and needed breakfast, this was going to be my street food-style snack as I meandered about. It was so good! flaky pie outside, meaty and slightly spicy interior. So good. -Cornish Pasty for post-ride: As my plan was to ride around Stanley Park, figured having something to enjoy afterwards would be smart and as I haven't had a Cornish Pasty before, had to try it. I inhaled this thing after I got back to my Airbnb, a good beef, potatoes, onion hand pie. Even knowing I had a dinner coming up, I just went to town once I tried it. -Chocolate Chip Cookie: Hard to go wrong with a classic. This turned into my snack and a view, as I got through most of the park, found a shaded, grassy spot near a beach and just treated multiple senses at once. Seriously, if coming to Granville Island Public Market, make a stop here. Pick yourself up a treat for there or later, or if feeling generous your family. This place is located right at the heart of the Granville food market. Every time we are at Granville Island, we stop here because they have the BEST vegan oatmeal blueberry bar. I wish there was a recipe but I think they keep it a secret because they don't want to lose customers. These wonderful desserts are decadent and delicious. The filling tastes not too much like jam but like fresh blueberries that was reduced down and made into their delicious filling. The desserts are more on the pricy side but still worth buying. read more

So we just finished our tour and it was our last stop. We were starving! Our wonderful driver told us where to go. We wondered into the Market Place and what a selection we found. Laurelle's is located toward the back of the market place were there is more seating. Their dishes were a mix of Italian and some local flare. We had the spinach lasagna, meat lasagna, sausage rolls and Cornish pasty's. The lasagna could have used a little salt, but it was great. There salads were very good as well. We had the potato salad and the broccoli tortellini salad. We enjoyed our entire meal. The people are friendly and food is fantastic. read more

I got a ginger yam roll ($4.25), a cheese twist ($1) and nanaimo bar ($2.50). The ginger roll was interesting, never had something like it before. Kind of small for $4, but worth trying something new! My first time trying a Nanaimo bar, so i'm not sure how authentic it is, but it's packed with coconut and chocolate flavour. Quite nice but really sugary! Make sure you take one bite at a time! The cheese twist was okay. Not only do the desserts look amazing, they also taste great! Had my first experience of a Nanaimo bar here. It was a bit sweet for the regular one with coconut but I loved the base layer! They also had a pistachio Nanaimo bar. Aside from naniamo, also got their almond praline which were also very good. They have milk chocolate and dark chocolate to choose from. I have a weakness for chicken pot pie and anytime I see one, I MUST HAVE IT! The crust and hot moist filling were a nice way to warm up from the cold weather. I also had a wild beet salad which was tasty as well. They're known for the Nanaimo bars, but I personally didn't care for it. I don't think this is anything against Laurelle's, I think it's just not for me. There are so many items to choose from that it can feel a bit overwhelming, but it's definitely a place I'd go back to again to try more baked goods and desserts! I really liked everything I tried here. The Cornish pasty was filled with spiced ground beef and vegetables, and they warmed it, which makes it perfect for a cold day snack. I also really liked their tiny raspberry almond tart. It was amazing how much flavor was there, and it was beautiful too, with the sugar baked onto the crust. Another day, I had their ginger cookie, and that was so good. It has a chewy texture and little bits of chopped candied ginger. Laurelle's Fine Foods has a beautiful display at the Granville Island Public Market. We circled back a few times before deciding on a MEAT SHEPHERDS PIE and a 5" CHICKEN POT PIE. They can heat them up for you if you want to eat there but it's in a microwave. The pies didn't come out very hot either so we had them try a couple of times. I'm sure the pies would've been better piping hot, but being only lukewarm they were just ok. Of the two, I preferred the chicken pot pie but it wasn't anywhere near the best I've had. read more

I picked up a medium sized container of Curry Tortellini Salad and Wild Rice Salad along with a couple of Sausage rolls in flaky pastry. Curry Tortellini is to die for! Creamy, yummy, sweet with some crunch from the fruit and veggies inside. As for the Wild Rice, I didn't care for so much. It was a bit bland and ended up mixing it with the curry salad to make it more palatable. The girls behind the counter were very helpful. Only thing I would change is their NO CREDIT CARD policy. I went to all the neighboring vendors and everyone else accepted it. This set me back a bit as I had to hunt an ATM down before I could buy my goodies. That takes my 5* rating down to a 4*. There are a whole lot of food options to choose from on Granville Island. After passing by Laurelle's, what seemed like 3 or 4 times, I took the plunge and ordered the moussaka which was served in a microwaveable type of tray. Having never had this dish before, I did not know what to expect. Fortunately, it was very pleasant with a good mix of peppers, eggplant and beef. Seeing that the items that Laurelle's sells are all prepared for purchase already, the moussaka was somewhat less enjoyable having been microwaved. But it was a nice option to have while sitting outside in the sun watching the going ons of False Creek. I would recommend Laurelle's for its variety of entrees, pasta and baked goods that they serve. They would make for a good meal for a casual day on Granville. read more

A quality "all kinds of yummy stuff" counter in Granville Island Public Market. I've been searching for the best cinnamon bun in Vancouver and I think I've found it! (they often have 3 kinds: walnut, raisin or apple). All of their cookies are THE BEST. And if they happen to have the lemon custard/cake pudding dessert when you pop by, get it! Or they'll make some for you if you pre-order. The staff are always friendly and so helpful and accommodating. They really care about pleasing their customers - such a rare thing these days. I was shopping and eating at Granville Island and decided to go "all in" and get my sweet tooth on. There were so many delicious looking treats at Laurelle's it was hard to decide but I settled on the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. It was really good and I liked the chocolate chunks in the cookie and the chocolate on top, too. I also brought home a sausage roll for my husband and he gave it "two thumbs up" - and it was a little spicy, just to his taste. I'll definitely stop here next time to get my sugar cravings satisfied. After reading a few reviews mentioning that they don't take credit cards, I figured I should provide and updated confirmation that they do indeed take credit cards as of the time I wrote this. In fact, I billed an oh-so delectable pasta penne salad for $2 on my credit card. I felt bad for doing this to them, as they were probably within their rights to require a minimum order for credit card purchases. Been there two times, both for lunch-salads billed by the 100/grams weight. Pasta salad was great; pad thai, not so much but still passable. Their selection is great and tastes pretty good, but appear to be on the high-end of the one-$-sign price spectrum. I'd consider them a good choice for picnic-fare, but not knockout-destination-worth-traveling-for-just-to-taste. read more

As much as I'd love to give it 5 stars I can only give it 4 for the sole reason that it's sooo far away (I'm from San Jose, CA). But dammit, if I could I'd come here frequently. Their service people are very friendly and all smiles which I love, and the selection and quality of their food is great. I wanted to look at all the food all day long. For anyone wanting a nice light snack definitely go for the scones. They are so light, fluffy, and all around delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Oh! And their dessert options looked so good. I got a mini-cupcake and practically melted at the texture and taste of the buttercream frosting.
