Tasty Beet Salad and Salmon Pot Pie
    Carrie M.

I was craving some healthy food, so I was captivated by the pretty salads. I got the "Tasty Beet Salad," and I enjoyed the oranges and orange dressing. I am not a big beet person, but the beets were not bad. I thought the price was too high. They price it by weight. I got a really small cup of this salad for over $7. My friend got the salmon pot pie for over $7 as well, which was small but more worth the price since it's a savoury pie. We both noted that the salmon was weirdly flaky and had a very strong fishy (in an unnatural manner) taste.

Was not able to try everything I wanted here as we were about to do a food tour, but they had so many yummy savory and sweet options here. Snacked on a cheese twist and it was flaky and yummy.

This bakery had a massive collection of baked goods - both savory and sweet! Helpful staff warmed up our pies. Steak and onion pie: Flaky crust, tender beef and onions in a gravy sauce - Not bad! Salmon pot pie: Flaky crust, flaky salmon, soft onions, and tender mushrooms in a creamy sauce. I also had my first ever Nanaimo bar from here! The chocolate and coconut were super sweet.

One of our must stops when we walk around Granville Market! They have tons of different sweets to try and we tend to try something different each time we visit. I really don't have anything bad to say. Everything is always fresh and sweet and delicious. It's so fun to see what new offerings they have! Careful though, it's easy to overdo it ;)

    Vegan Brownie.

During my visit, they had a handful of delicious vegan options to choose from. I ordered the vegan brownie and the peanut butter almond square. The vegan brownie is more of a spongy chocolate cake with a light, non overpowering layer of chocolate icing. For only a few dollars, you get an almost 3 inch thick yummy square that goes down easy and doesn't feel sickeningly chocolatey like most desserts tend to. As for the peanut butter almond square, I think it's safe to say that it's one of my new favourite vegan treats. The base is a chewy chocolate layer that's almost brownie-like, followed by an absolutely delicious layer of creamy peanut butter, then topped with an equal layer of chocolate icing. The three layers combined create a near perfect dessert that'll have you coming back for more! If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend checking out these treats! The peanut butter almond square, especially, will not disappoint!

As a fan of pastries - both savory and sweet - in all their forms, Laurelle's was a moment of "I want one of everything, please!" I had skipped on breakfast as I knew I was going to get something in Granville Island Public Market, and my initial idea was to grab breakfast, lunch for Stanley Park, and a post-ride snack from there. Things changed as I was recommended The Sandbar for lunch, but still needed breakfast. I told myself I'd do a lap, but I froze in spot the moment I saw Laurelle's. I mean, they have so many different types of hand pies, it just makes sense you get a walking around snack from here. And I did just that. It will still take you time to figure out what you want. The salmon roll sounded unique, but I didn't know how well it would hold between there and riding around the park. Same with the shepherd's pie (and I am a sucker for a good shepherd's pie) and the various cheesecake brownie things that I wish I was eating right now. Regular pie slices, cookies, tarts, all of it looked amazing. I settled on the following: -Sausage Roll for walking around: As I hadn't made it halfway through the market and needed breakfast, this was going to be my street food-style snack as I meandered about. It was so good! flaky pie outside, meaty and slightly spicy interior. So good. -Cornish Pasty for post-ride: As my plan was to ride around Stanley Park, figured having something to enjoy afterwards would be smart and as I haven't had a Cornish Pasty before, had to try it. I inhaled this thing after I got back to my Airbnb, a good beef, potatoes, onion hand pie. Even knowing I had a dinner coming up, I just went to town once I tried it. -Chocolate Chip Cookie: Hard to go wrong with a classic. This turned into my snack and a view, as I got through most of the park, found a shaded, grassy spot near a beach and just treated multiple senses at once. Seriously, if coming to Granville Island Public Market, make a stop here. Pick yourself up a treat for there or later, or if feeling generous your family. I mean, they have sweet AND savory, you can't go wrong!

    Nanaimo bar $2.50

Pretty happy with this place! They have a wide variety of savoury and sweets and they accept credit cards. The cashier was friendly too. I got a ginger yam roll ($4.25), a cheese twist ($1) and nanaimo bar ($2.50). The ginger roll was interesting, never had something like it before. Kind of small for $4, but worth trying something new! My first time trying a Nanaimo bar, so i'm not sure how authentic it is, but it's packed with coconut and chocolate flavour. Quite nice but really sugary! Make sure you take one bite at a time! The cheese twist was okay. It wasn't buttery nor flakey like the cheese twists in Brickstreet Bakery in Toronto -- if it was, I would've given this place a solid 5/5.

Not only do the desserts look amazing, they also taste great! Had my first experience of a Nanaimo bar here. It was a bit sweet for the regular one with coconut but I loved the base layer! They also had a pistachio Nanaimo bar. Aside from naniamo, also got their almond praline which were also very good. They have milk chocolate and dark chocolate to choose from. I can't speak for their savoury items but definitely will go back for the sweets!

Cappuccino Nanaimo Bar($2.10) - White Chocolate, Coffee, Hazelnuts, Butter. Chocolatey Yumminess Dessert named Nanaimo that as a Tourist from the East, I though I should give in and indulge as one of the BC Food items outside of the famous Vancouver Crab. Although I wasn't getting any Coffee scent, it was still delicious and perfectly sweetened, melt in your mouth Chocolate Dessert. For that price, I should have gotten their regular Nanaimo Bar(Belgium Chocolate, Butter, Custard) as well! 3.5 *Stars* Laurelle's sells various other Pastries, Desserts and cold Salad items that seemed more popular as it was relatively close to the Food Court seating. They can distribute these Desserts to other Cafes and those Cafes can easily charge $3.00+ for them.

Wanted something sweet and bumped into this place! I got the lemon bar, pecan tart, coconut macaroon and pecan caramel bar. My favorite are the lemon bar and pecan caramel bar, I thought they would be room temperature since they were in the display case but they were icy cold! I assume they've probably been in a fridge? I'm not sure but took them them home to heat up!

But, they've reorganized the layout a bit, and they're definitely more focused on Eastern European offerings with lots of frozen, fresh and shelf stable options. I was very happy to see that they still have the same vacuum sealed smoked chicken and ribs, and they seem to have a wider assortment of frozen pierogies and pelmeni than typically available in grocery stores. Hopefully the woman with the magical savoury baked goods is still there to make her delectable items!

All good - head out and ask my husband to pick it up. While I shop for other things. After several minutes of confusion from the staff, he's finally handed an enormous wrapped parcel and charged $104. He's shocked but figures he better get it. Now I don't know if we could have returned it at this point, but when I saw Safeway only had a small, single breast (for $13.99) I figured I'd go with what appeared to be a very large double / full breast. Getting home I unwrap a bloody, netted roll of turkey that turns out to be one skin-on breast that has the meat partially separating from the skin, very unevenly and poorly removed from the bone, plus approximately 8 skinless breasts of various sizes. I'm already anxious enough about making a massive and complex meal and now I have an extremely expensive pile of basically crap as my centrepiece. Wonderful. Suggest if you buy from them do it in-store and watch what you're getting. I suspect they had a trainee and rolled their unsalable poorly cut breasts into a giant 'sucker' package for whoever phoned in a turkey order. I certainly won't support this business again, which pisses me off because I sure don't love supporting Galen and the other monopolies. Feeling incredibly ripped off and gullible for trusting which also sucks for us as a society. I was very clear in my order that I was expecting both sides of the breast with skin on (I asked twice) from a roughly 5-6 kilo turkey. Guess I'm just bitter as I lie awake stressing about presenting a hacked up small pile of turkey to my guests. Damn Tango's, you did me dirty.

The furniture looks nice but some is better quality than others. Our high top table was wobbly. Better signage is needed for the deli and sandwich section. Some things were missing prices/labels. When I came with a friend, the place was fairly busy. The staff and friendly. However, they are not experienced. It is clear they have not worked in food and beverage previously. There is a water and condiment station, but the cups for the water are so small, and they are plastic. I'm not sure why they don't just have plastic tumbler cups since they have real tableware for purchased food anyway. There is compostable cutlery, which is better than plastic. But again, why not have real cutlery since the cups and plates are all real dishes? The compostable cutlery is also very difficult to use with some of their items as it's just not sturdy enough. The compostable should be saved for to go orders. In terms of the food, they use good ingredients. The sandwiches also came with a side of artichokes dip/spread, which was a nice touch. On the other hand, they claimed to have heated up the sandwiches, which was definitely NOT the case as the sandwich was cold and the cheese was not even close to melting. Because the sandwich was cold and they used thicker bread, the bread was tougher than it needed to be. They claimed there was a preset timer and that they had grilled or pressed it. Well, the timer must have been for 3 seconds since it did nothing to the sandwich, and I don't believe their claim as there were zero grill marks on the bread. They need to have a proper panini press, and staff need to be trained in it. There is a large selection of dessert and sandwiches, and they also have soup and pasta and then sliced meats at the deli. Some sandwiches were not available even though we came at 130pm, e.g., veggie, prosciutto. We saw more sandwiches that were prepared on a try that was behind the deli, but they were not restocked into the window/case where you ordered. Additionally, the deli was "closed for cleaning"; I'm not sure what that meant as no one was cleaning, and it wasn't apparent that the deli was dirty. Plus. The meats were all sitting in the glass case. Considering, they had three staff and no line. The whole situation of the sandwiches and deli made no sense. Prices are reasonable for what you get and are comparable to other cafes The place has a lot of potential, but there is also a lot of competition in the area, and I think some areas need improvement.
