After a frustrating shopping trip to NJ, and unsuccessful searches in New England, I was referred by a friend to Choonri Collection in Boxborough, MA. From our first meeting, I was confident that Seema would help me select the perfect attire for both evenings. She had an excellent sense of the colours and fabrics that would best suit me, and although I presented her with a challenging timeline, she assured me her seamstress would have my saree blouse ready, with time for adjustments if needed. Her collection is beautiful - my husband was very impressed with the quality of her sarees, and I received countless compliments on my attire and bangles from family, friends and strangers! It was a gorgeous wedding, and in a "sea of beautiful sarees" her (my!) saree was a standout. UPDATE: In response to Seema's post, some excerpts from emails that I exchanged with her. If you are thinking about doing business here, please contact me first and I'm happy to share the original emails and pics of the dresses. My bridesmaids and I went to meet with her in Dec at her request, even after we repeatedly expressed concern about meeting that long before the wedding. 2 of the bridesmaids and I went back for fitting in July/Aug and the wedding was in Sep - so of course those 2 bridesmaids dresses fit the worst. My email to express my concerns: I was very disappointed in the overall experience of ordering these dresses, particularly since the women who made two trips to see you for measurements got dresses that didn't fit. I'm hoping that you can let us know how you plan to address these issues. Since the service we paid for was for custom dresses, and the dresses were far from fitting, I'm wondering how they will be compensated for their time and for now having dresses that don't fit. I understand that you said that you didn't make any profit from this sale, however XX and XX didn't get the product that they paid for. Her response: As i mentioned earlier my own tailor was gone because (deleted this part for privacy).It all happen in end of July & early Aug.I had to find someone who could finish your bridesmaid order for me. Your gown was done by one of my tailor and we had no issue. I had dead line for delivery so i ask my sister to find someone who can stitch these in 2 days. Because then Aug 15th holiday and weekend was coming. I was working with these tailor first time so i did not have much idea about their work, but someone has recommended them. In response to my question about the dresses being see through, which was never mentioned to us: We try not to add lining because it changes fit. If you are present in front of tailor then it is a different story you can try it on. You still have 10 days, girls can go and find slip. I have seen it in TJ Maxx & Mrshall for $6 -$7 bucks.Good luck In response to asking about receiving the dresses 2 weeks before the wedding, which she assured me would happen: i am repeating we say 2 weeks but as i mentioned earlier we have delivered outfits 3 days prior to wedding.Right now i hoping for best.Will let you know by tmr when it is reaching. Asking about dress prices, a month before the wedding: Could you please give me a price per dress; I have asked this question in 3 emails and haven't gotten a response, and it's very important for me to know this as soon as possible. If the dresses do need adjustments, are you able to make them, or will we need to go to someone else? If you could also spell out for me the timeline and process so far for the shipping, that would be very helpful. When I last saw you, you had said they were ahead of schedule, so I'm wondering what changed. , Yes you asked me the price but i don't have final price yet so i cannot give you. I am hoping we don't need any alterations. If we do i will give you number of the person she needs to see you in dress so you will be taking it. We will figure out if we need it. I hope this answers all your question. I will let you know as soon i get shipping info. If i get it before that will inform you. Final thoughts: Seema said in her reply to my review that the dresses didn't fit because she worked with a different tailor. She never mentioned to me it was due to the fittings, The shapes of the dresses didn't match their bodies, so I still wonder who the dresses were made for. I was then refered to Seema's boutique by a friend and to my delight she had tasteful selections of sarees, lehegas and such. These were more upscale and classy then I had seen elsewhere. Last year I purchased my wedding Lengha from Seema at Choonri Collection. Seema was able to provide a lengha I love, close to our budget, style I wanted and was able to make alterations on somewhat short notice. (I believe the dress was chosen about 4 months prior to wedding date and I had the dress in my possession 2 1/2 weeks prior to the wedding. It had to be sent back to India for major alterations and custom made chooni). Seema was easy to work with when discussing the dress, style and alterations. The dress itself was very good quality material (I believe it is a silk blend). Most dresses I saw at other places were trendy with tons of crystal and net which is fine but was not right for me. I was afraid net would rip easily but seemed like everywhere I went thats what stores carried. Also I wanted something more classic than trendy. My lengha from Seema was classic with just touch of modern style which was perfect for me. I remember she did not have a ton of wedding lenghas, but in the few she had, I fell in love with this one. Her store/house is in MA and convenient instead of having to go into Boston or NY or even India. lol. She was accommodating with time. I remember I think I was at her house at 8pm on a Sunday or maybe a weekday? Which many people will not put up with. But she knew my wedding planning was on fast track and so she was accommodating. The only thing I feel I need to criticize is the billing. Not the cost of the dress but the billing. We had given a budget to Seema and when we found the dress, we chose it b/c it was within our budget and Ioved the dress. However when we picked up the dress and had to pay, we were given a slightly higher price due to alterations. It is fine to do this b/c there was a lot of work done to dress but letting us know ahead of time would have been appreciated. My mother and I were very confused and stressed over it. At first, Seema did not seem to recognize the confusion and dissatisfaction over the last minute change in price. But in the end it all worked out fine and Seema was accommodating. My advice when working with any wedding vendor (this is not just for Seema or Choonri Collection): provide vendor your budget and when a service/item is decided on, get the price in writing. Also, be sure to ask if there is any reason for something to change. If there is chance that additional fees may arise, ask them to notify you ahead of time. A simple email or phone call informing you can make a difference. Over all, I have to say experience was good and I got a beautiful wedding gown/lengha. read more

I bought lehenga and blouse for my Saree for wedding and she made sure all the altercation done on time but I didn't like cheap zipper on my lehenga which can break at anytime. The lehenga is expensive and I paid $360 for it so in short I didn't like altercation which I paid extra money for. read more

I was running all over looking for a formal salwar kameez for my 50th birthday party/kirtan. I only found extremely expensive things ($350-$600) or things that were too ordinary. I wanted something fairly elaborate that I could use for Devi Bhava and Gurupurnima. I found one for about $100 elsewhere but did not buy it because I had a bad experience with the owner, and also when I tried it on I noticed it was polyester. Later I went online and found many similar salwar kameez for less. Well, I finally decided to give Choonri collection a call. First, the service was incredible. Second, the outfit is designed by Seema and made to her specifications in India. No one else in the world will have your outfit. Third, it is very convenient if you live in the Western suburbs. Fourth, her (small) showroom is a converted upstairs bedroom in her gracious and pretty home. If you want a totally individual experience, go here. I paid $280 for a bright red Georgette salwar kameez with elaborate crystal beaded flowers and brass beads, even done on the hem and legs of the pants and a simple dupatta. I went over my budget of $200 because it was EXACTLY what I was looking for! My friend who threw the party bought me a tiara, and I looked and felt like a princess. These were the tight legged pants and although I had no problem at her home, it was hard to put them on before the party as it was very humid. I called Seema atypically somewhat upset and she calmed me down and told me how to put them on. (I bought the outfit too close to the party to have it altered or I would not have had this problem. I plan to go back and have zippers or buttons put in for the future.) Any one saying it is too expensive may not have shopped around for Indian clothing in the US. You will only get a better deal for formal clothes in Greater Boston if you luck out on sale rack. (And Seema has some very nice sale items herself, one of a kind salwar kameez for, if I recall correctly, $110 or $120). Yes, you can order things from India, but you will not be able to feel the fabric, and if you pick it off a website it is not one of a kind. Yes, if you have $1200 or more for a plane ticket, of course you can get less expensive formal clothing in India. Otherwise, forget it. Just save yourself a lot of gas and frustration and go to Choonri collections. It is a very special experience visiting this talented and attentive lady. read more

I can't say enough good things about Choonri Collection and its owner, Seema! For several years, every time there has been a wedding in my family I have gone to Seema's boutique Choonri Collection to buy sarees and sometimes even jewelry. I have bought beautifully embroidered, stylish, and colorful, sarees, salwar kameez, churidar pajama, and kurtis for myself, my daughter, and mother. I absolutely love and wear them all the time. Recently I helped my neice select a beautiful pure silk saree for her mother-in-law to wear at my niece's wedding. This was a difficult task because my niece was not physically present to make the selection. Seema was very patient, and very helpful throughout this whole long distance saree selection process. After spending hours during a weekend, and then another hour on a week day, we were finally able to make the right selection. All the items including the silk saree looked very beautiful and elegant on the wedding day. Even though Choonri Collection is an hour away from my place, I am glad it has the latest fashions, colors, and prices for all age groups, to choose from. The saree blouse stitching is very good, although faster alteration times could be achieved by using a local tailor perhaps. Seema was very pleasant, helpful.
