Before I walked into this place, i was approached by a woman covered in scabs and possibly on drugs asking for money who was in front of the entrance. We went inside and tried to place an order, when i handed her my card to pay the lady at the front took my card and rang the bell a few times, then handed my card back to me and told me they didn't accept card? I didn't have any cash on me and was disappointed. It seemed like they wanted me to use the ATM they had and pay with cash which was super inconvenient. We ended up walking out. read more

I lived in Sylmar for about 8 years and this was the go to spot for donuts and bagels. The place is family owned and all the staff are very friendly. Until now, they are always busy in the morning for coffee and donuts. Their donuts are fluffy and fresh. My go to has always been a dozen donut holes for the day, a cheese bagel with garlic cream cheese, and their "regular iced coffee" - they have a flavored iced coffee but you want the regular as it tastes like a Thai iced coffee. The bagels are a big hit as they are made in house and are fresh. I have not had many places where the bagel is nice and crispy on the outside but buttery soft in the inside (to the point where it melts in your mouth). read more

The man who helped me today was really kind. Unfortunately around the time I came in they were out of large croissants for the roasted turkey croissant. I've been here about 3 times already and have always had a great experience. I've only been here before noon and I only get their bagels and hot coffee. The location is kinda shady. Hood-rats, cholos and bikers saturate the area. Its located right down the street from like 6 diver bars, in the heart of Sylmar. That's the thing though, it's Sylmar, what do you expect!? The donuts and pastries are A++, much better than the major chains like yum yum, way fresher too. Large selection of bagels and sandwiches as well. It would be nice if I could walk in there at 11am and they still had a large selection of donuts. Later in the day, pickings in the donut display case get slim. They really need to improve their service and stop rushing the order/paying process. I always feel pressured to pick my fancies on the fly, sometimes they rush me so much that either I or they forget to include part of my order. The donuts are moist, fresh and fluffy! If you go early morning their is not that many other clients so you are able to get your food quick. Many of the employees are welcoming and give you their full attention. They have a lot of different varieties of breakfast food you can pick from. They have breakfast bagels, donuts, croissants, muffins, and deli sandwiches for the afternoon. They also have coffee,iced coffee, lattes, etc. Choony's even offers boba. Their pricing is very reasonable and fair because of how big the food is. I would suggest if you are in the area, try the croissants because they taste AMAZING! They have the perfect sweetness that just tingles you taste buds. They are even better when they are freshly made and warm. These croissants melt in your mouth! I also suggest trying one of the croissants that are filled with either strawberry, blueberry, or creme cheese! They are very delicious and are addictive. The location for this donut shop is horrible because it is in a corner plaza that gets busy during the afternoon. There is hardly any parking and it is such a hassle to find a parking spot because the parking lot is very small. Another thing that I dislike about about this donut shop is they only accept cash. BEST Donuts in Sylmar, this place has been around for over 15yrs. I've been going here from Jr high school, high school, collage, and now i have been dropping by almost every morning before work for a donut and a coffee. Donuts and pastries are always hot and fresh. My co workers also LOVE their donuts and pastries. Choony's serves the best coffee around the area and I love their bagles. The bagles are so soft unlike other traditional ones, which is why I like Choony's! I used to come here. But never again. I bought my daughter a bottle of nestle milk with her donut. I splitef half the milk with my daughter, poured mine in a cup. The consistency was quiet thick. The taste was normal so didn't think much of it. My daughter almost finished the other half, grabbed the bottle to look at exp date.. we are now almost at the end of June, milk expired in May. Showed to the workers, all they said was, owner checks the expiration dates. They didn't know. They said if anything happens, come see owner tomorrow. I asked to call owner, they said can't goo e me his number. I said that's fine, disk his number here and I'll talk to him to let him know. They did can't do that.
