As as far as Bradenton is concerned there is probably nowhere better to buy exquisitely cut quality meats the deli is exceptional fish and you can maybe do a little better forecast but for in town it's probably the best around their beef pork chicken top notch every time read more

Nobody - not the workers nor the customers - take Bradenton's mask mandate seriously. Even though the shop door said they are enforcing the mask mandate, the EMPLOYEES were arrogant enough to not even have a mask on. The ones who did have a mask on their body were wearing it under their chin. It was flagrant disregard for our health and safety. Okay I have to admit after paying $50 for two uncooked steaks I was concerned if we would get our money's worth. My husband got the rib eye (1 lb.) and I got the filet (8 oz.) which he selected. He marinated them overnight and grilled them - oh my goodness, the last steak I had this great was in Kansas City, MO. Terrific place that has been around forever. Their meats are high quality and hand cut. They have many sundries at overpriced rates but they also have some hard to find items to boot. Their deli counter is stocked with Boars Head meats. All of their dairy items are from a local, well known provider, Dakin Dairy. I went here today with my daughter to pick up meat to grill for Christmas dinner. I bought the filet mignon, 2 1/2 racks of lamb, and lobster tail. The young man helping me was so nice and helpful. Everyone in the store was friendly too. We were visiting from Chicago and am so glad one of the locals recommended The Chop Shop. Go in - you won't be disappointed. To all those who are unfriendly and left a negative review because you said many employees weren't wearing masks: Please stay home if you don't feel safe. Everyone there today was wearing a mask. I love the chop shop - it brings memories from when my parents used to go to the butcher shop. The smells hit you when you first walk in of the fresh meats and veggies. Meat packages you get are a great bargain. The meats takes like you step back in time and actually have flavor in them. Deli - has some nice selections too. Stuffed potatoes are amazing. Love the chicken salad! Ribs and chicken are good too. I try and go here once a month to buy my meats. Wish they were out east more near Lakewood Ranch though. Where can you go for under 100.00 you can get a meat package that will feed a family of 4 for 2-3 weeks. Staff are always friendly and smile. I would recommend stopping in here and checking it out. Returned the meatloaf mix because it had a fly in it. Butcher's response was that it happens all the time. I strongly suggested he notify all customers who purchased from this batch on 12/22/21. He was very arrogant and said he would not notify anyone. The two pricey prime rib aged steaks purchased the same date for $43.45 were full of grizzle. He refused to refund my money for the steaks. I do not recommend Chop Shop. read more

Covid alert! I have loved Chop Shop the last 6 winter seasons. Sadly I will not be returning until Covid is over. Two employees handling the food we consume were not wearing masks. There is a "recommended" mask sign on the door, but for employees handling food to not wear a mask is inexcusable. read more

I was appalled to visit the Chop Shop for the second day this week only to find that at least half of the employees behind the meat counter were not wearing masks. Oh, they had them hanging around their necks! I spoke to a woman over the phone after my first visit, and she assured me that she would speak to the staff. Today I went back to check and low and behold the same problem. I will not be shopping at the Chop Shop again and have alerted my friends who take the pandemic seriously. High quality meats with a selection to match the quality. In addition to the meat counter (main focus of the store) there is a Boar's Head cold cut section and aisles of dry foods. They also have a small Italian section including canned tomatoes and dry pastas. There is also a frozen section with Pastoza Ravioli (very hard to find outside of an Italian specialty store) and cakes. This place is definitely higher on price on all dry products, but comparable to grocery stores for meat. read more

I've bought good meat there for years. This morning I went in and was surprised by the reaction I received. I had on a mask. When I said "good morning, I'd like to buy some of the steaks you have on sale", the butcher looked up at me, and said with a very disgusted look on his face: we don't have any! After a pause of 4-5 seconds, his associate said something to him and he said: why don't you come back later. Just very rude. And frankly, I don't believe they were out, not from what I saw in the counter. My mask must make me responsible for this terrible tragedy we are all just trying to live through. read more

Love this place. Staying on Anna Maria Island, but worth the trip off the island. We wanted to grill in one night so ventured to the Chop Shop for our selections. Amazing meats, sides pre-made like twice baked potatoes and delicious breads and desserts. We got the entire meal for the evening and tried their homemade summer sausage and cheese spreads for apps. This is a great shop!!! Everyone says it's pricey- and it can be.... But I won't buy my meat anywhere else if I can help it. All of their meats are superior to any in a grocery store. I stock up on what's on sale. And their ground beef ( all different fat counts) is always cheaper than the groc. Store. One half of their boneless, skinless chicken breasts feeds both of us at 1.99/lb. on sale. Their steak is cut so thick but they will cut it to your preference. Their country ribs are awesome - and we only eat Amish bacon now. Not to mention all the specialty items they have from sauces to vinegars to spices and ethnic ingredients. They also have a deli and prepared food and sell wine. Employees are all so helpful and friendly! Definitely worth a stop! read more

Well I believe the quality of meats and grocery are all top notch but I can only give your place a three star because you do not have a proper handicap entrance and when I suggested you put one in I was met with resistance as if was not your problem well a couple sacks of cement and a Sunday morning and you would have a ramp and probably more customers.......bad attitude on your part an apology and a nice response would have made me feel better about coming in through the back storeroom....... read more

Over the years I've shopped at The Chop Shop occasionally, always hoping for better. I went early yesterday, to support local and be safer in a less traveled shop. Later in the day I brought the rotten lettuce and dried up meat back for a refund. I haven't bothered to do that in the past but I had to go back out anyway to take my husband, waiting in the car, to the doctor. The girl explained how meat is supposed to be dried up like that. (No excuses for rotten lettuce?) Did I want replacements? (Uh no.) There is a sign on the door requiring masks but most employees, when bothering to wear them, wore them incorrectly. A number of customers were simply not wearing masks at all. My husband has compromising health issues. I put us both at risk by shopping at The Chop Shop. I should have left as soon as I saw how cavalier everyone was being. Chances are we will be fine but the meat still sucked. read more
