I had a friend in from Denver and we stopped in 5 min before closing to browse and pick up fresh made kimchi. Moni helped us find the curries and suggested penang. At check out we sought advice on preparation and even though it was closing time he helped us pull together several unfamiliar ingredients such as mushroom powder, Kiefer lime leaves and tamarind. With a suggested recipe from Moni we went home and cooked one of the best meals we have ever had. The layered complexities of flavors was AMAZING! How nice he took all the extra time to go out of his way to enthuastically help us at closing time and we weren't the only late walk ins he helped. I love this little store. Wow Spice is the perfect little Asian market! They have everything you could need as far as sauces, condiments, dry noodles, teas, sweets, frozen goods, and even some produce. What I appreciate the most though is their onigiri and kimchi, freshly made on-site! I've already devoured some of the onigiri and the kimchi and they were incredible. The kimchi was perfectly balanced and the onigiri was warm and loaded with flavor. It even had a little heat to it! Definitely skip the massive, Asian grocery stores and go to Spice. Although you won't find any tanks of live fish, Spice has everything else you would otherwise look for, all displayed in a clean, organized, mom-and-pop run shop. I was just strolling through my You tube pages and an ad came through for this Asian market. Last year I was looking for an Asian market to get ingredients for a recipe I wanted to try. I went to Yelp and found this market. After horrible visits to two other markets one in Venice,FL (where I live) and another in Sarasota, I was about to give up but decided to go to this shop. OMG this by far was the cleanliness, well stocked shop I've visited. Everything neatly stocked and sales staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, I forgot to save my search and lost contact. I'm so happy I found it. I added them to my favorite and signed up for a cooking class scheduled for next month. Love this place even more. I took their pad Thai cooking class and the pad Thai is exactly what I was hoping for and saved me from being disappointed in the local restaurants. My go to for Asian ingredients. Very helpful staff I take my recipe and they assist me in picking out the best choice. Their home made potstickers and buns are great to keep in the freezer. Also great for wrappers for lumpia, egg rolls that I make at home. When my son first moved to town we went over and they helped him restock all his ingredients as he is an amazing chef of all foods oriental. Amazing products from Korea, China and Middle East regions. Home made Kimchi; is their signature. They have to go fresh made food every Saturday. We came in on a Saturday. We were able to have their delicious food for lunch. We had the japhae noodles, bulgogi beef, all the veggie sides and a few other things. We were greeted with the most friendliest faces: the husband and wife team as well as their sweet boys who rang us up. They have everything that you can possibly need to put together your favorite Asian dishes as well as a few of the kids favorites like melon ice cream and boba essentials! The operative word here is FRIENDLY. The friendliness is genuine. They greet you like they want you business. You don't get that stereotypical "aggressive suspicion" that you get in some places. Staff is nice and cheerful here at this Asian grocery store. Fresh Korean foods available in the back kitchen area. It's smells marvelous. There are Japanese goods which makes me happy. I wish the daikon was bigger and longer and white. If you really need these goods they are available for purchase here however at a premium price from what I am used to . Almost $5 for a pack of yakisoba noodles when I know I've paid $2 in other states. Owners are quite sweet. I would shop here again . Edit. Very nice couple will do everything they can to help you. What a lovely oriental market located on Gulf Gate Drive. On Saturdays, there is homemade food. I always get the spring rolls and fried pork noodles. Delicious. I am from Koreatown in Los Angeles and when I miss my grandmother's cooking, I will drive out of my way to shop here. I stock up on Korean side dishes (called banchan), especially the kimchee (please don't buy kimchee at a chain store; they often put sugar in it and it's not authentic). They make all their side dishes in house and it's a great way to try some Korean food aside from the popular marinated bbq, which they have, too! The prices are amazing for the home cooking they do. Also, the store itself carries products from all over Asia, not just Korea. The store is sparkling clean, well run and the owners are very kind and helpful. I can't wait to try food from their back kitchen, which is only open early Saturday afternoons (I believe 10am - 2pm?) Be adventurous! Try some new food! read more

It's no LOTTE in Fairfax, VA, but this is as good as it gets in Sarasota for Korean/Oriental food. They have an awesome selection of noodles, frozen foods, snacks, seaweed, toys, cooking utensils, types of rice, packaged foods, and even fresh prepared foods. Their kimchi is pretty good too! The fresh prepared foods include cabbage and cucumber kimchi, fried squid (tastes better than it sounds), pickled radishes, spicy pork (the best!!! only available on some days so call ahead), geem bap, etc.) They have bok choy, green onions, sometimes Asian pears, and other fresh produce. The frozen foods include kalbi (short rib) or marinated kalbi ($11/lb and worth it), mandu (potstickers), bean buns, etc., etc. I also love the selection of saki sets, kid toys, snacks, etc. There's a lot to take in here, so come prepared to take your time to peruse the aisles. Most importantly to me, the place is CLEAN! I've been to Oriental markets that smell and have filthy floors, dusty shelves, etc. Koreans are known for their cleanliness and it shows here. This place is half the size of the photo on their website, and the sign does not even look the same anymore. This is a Korean grocery store that makes their own Kimchi. There is also a cooking class set-up in the back, but whenever I ask about classes, I am told that they are not currently being offered. The website says that they have fresh vegetables, but I have never seen any inside that were worth buying for most dishes. I think that they have some radish and green onion, but that is all. One of my main reasons for visiting was to purchase some beef for Bulgogi, they only sell it in 8 pound boxes for $30.00. I have never paid that much before, and this was not even cut in house, so I guess I will keep driving to Tampa to go to Kim Brothers for meats and marinades. One cool thing they do have is tons of rare Haribo candies on the spinner rack in the front of the store. They are expensive, but worth it. read more
