I miss JT Walkers. The Chophouse now inhabits the same space but it's definitely not the same. I ordered their specialty menu Manhattan and it was served warm with a single refrigerator I've cube tray ice cube floating in it and had a nasty medicinal taste. (Too much bitters?) The cheese and olive plate was very nice but their pork tenderloin sandwich was over cooked and did not pair well with a sweet mustard sauce. It was not a good take on a Midwestern pork tenderloin sandwich and it was inedible. Lastly, they placed us at a tiny center table that was of insufficient size for the dishes and cutlery and we kept getting bumped by servers bustling back and forth. All in all - not pleasant. I'm not in any hurry to return. read more

Went here for a dinner with my mom and everything was so yummy! The chefs do such a good job and the customer serves is so nice. Loved the vibe of the place (it was chilly in there though so bring a jacket), and the fireplace was so beautiful! I had what they called a Philly Cheesestake sandwich. Had some sautéed peppers, onion and mushroom, and two very paper thin slices of mystery meat that was very hard to chew. Not your Normal Philly cheese as you expect it to be. Not impressed or happy with choice. read more

Just took a shot at town we've never been to, and we're glad we did! The place is on the small side, I think the bar may have held ten. It was decorated nicely and the table coverings were a nice touch. We were lucky enough to stop by during Oktoberfest and enjoyed some delicious schnitzel, cabbage and German potato. The haddock was delicious as well but the best part of the meal for me was the grilled asparagus, absolutely amazing! The service was excellent especially because the server was also the bartender and manager. With all her hats she did an amazing job. If you're passing on the interstate, pass by the fast food and treat yourself to some fine dining, you won't regret it. read more

We've been there twice, and the service is very good, but the food is awful. It's processed food. Not fresh. The so-called, 'center-cut porkchop'; is a patty. And the patty was actually tough and fatty. Even the burgers do not appear freshly made and possibly came from a box. Hard to screw up a hamburger but they did. The steaks are inedible. There are Prime, AAA, AA and A grades of steak. These are less than A grade. The food is what you would expect from a bad Nursing Home. So disappointing. Will not be back! read more

Went with a group of 8. Food is over priced.. ordered shrimp got 8 pieces, no bread, no side for $22. some of the food came out warm or cold. One piece of chicken was burnt and cold when we told the waitress the food was taken back and reheated and still burnt. Manager approached our table and said loudly "Is there something wrong here". Due to his approach my husband said back loudly "yes there is!". The manager yelled "dont yell at me" again not let my husband explain the problem. As my husband spoke louder to try to get the opportunity to talk, the manager thru the other guests bills at them and said "I'll comp yours" and "DONT COME BACK!". Wow! The food was wonderful and the service was great! The chophouse chicken was tender and tasty and the smoked tofu and cajun vegetables was outstanding - bursting with flavor. The onion rings were also great - crispy and the horseradish cream sauce was the perfect match. For dessert, the moon-high carrot cake was wonderful. read more

The last time I dined here was a different name. It was not good. So I was hopeful after hearing how great the new name was that a new favorite place would be in my future. Nope... The service was average. We were upstairs which downstairs was so loud I was glad to be upstairs. I wanted a table not a high table but was not offered. There were empty tables and no one used them the entire time we were there. My friend ordered a drink and it came as a double which he did not order nor wanted. He ordered French onion soup which was more cheese/croutons than soup. I had the Caesar salad which was tasteless except for the salty croutons. No dressing or cheese. I ordered the salmon which I thought was seasoned with soy/honey...my mistake...hot but very bland. Wanted a baked sweet potato but they were out? It was a 5:30 reservation! So I had a baked potato that was over baked and tasteless. My friend had the pork chops and requested horseradish to add flavor. So the bill comes and prices were not as listed in menu. We had a great meal st Chophouse on main in Mahomet, IL. It is nestled in the historic downtown, and there is plenty of free parking. They have a nice wine selection. The staff was polite and attentive. We had the pulled pork Mac and cheese and it was wonderful. We enjoyed the pickle fries, and a tasty bacon burger with all the fixings. We walked in late on a Sunday night with our two kids. All of us famished. We were immediately seated and brought very refreshing ice cold water. The restaurant was clean and the servers and hostess were well dressed. Although their kitchen was closing in 15 minutes, they promptly took our order with no fuss. The food was a 9 out of 10. We ordered French onion, soup, crab cakes, shrimp dinner, pork chop, and scallops. Some of the food needed a little more salt, but that's easily fixed at the table. I don't get the hate on this place from some of the other reviews. Yes, the food is a little expensive. However, good luck getting seafood within a 50 mile radius unless you're at Red lobster. As far as I'm concerned, the service was excellent, especially because we came in right before they were going to close. Our food was excellent. Appetizers- crab cakes was moist but lacking in favor past the crust but the bruschetta was full of flavor. Dinners- my wife's salmon salad looked great, she said she would order it again. Our 2 daughters ordered the shrimp po boy & the signature burger. Both loved their order choices. I ordered the chophouse burger which was quite good. My mother-in-law said she would order her entree again. Our waitress was really nice but had to come back to our table after we ordered to ask if we wanted as a side or type of cheese on our food. I am giving Chophouse a solid 4.. we were a party of 5 plus a baby on Mother's Day.. mid afternoon.. no problem seating us. Their beer selection is very limited so we settled on mixed drinks and they were a good pour. The wine drinker at the table was given a tasting to choose one. The appetizers came out quickly.. so 1. Had a hamburger and said "very good" 2. Had a steak and said marginal.. good fries 3. Had a steak sandwich.. not worth $23 4. Had a salmon salad.. very good 5. Had a mixed plate with shrimp.. ok The service was good, but we were her only table. The place is just too pricey. We eat out "nice" all the time. A wedge salad is $15.00 my husband's favorite.. he always has one.. not here.. he has never paid over $10.. in our own home town a local restaurant has one for $4.50 and it is shareable..and the restaurant is equal. If in the neighborhood just know if you eat at Chop the bill will sting. read more

Updating my review from March, now that I've been here a few more times. I'm in Mahomet much more now than I used to be, so I've had lunch here a few times, and dinner recently. To be honest, it's probably the best place in Mahomet to take clients to lunch, save for the prices. That part hasn't changed. The food, while better, is still pretty spendy. I believe there has been a change in management since my last review, and I can tell a difference. Lunch service is OK, not great, but the menu selections are fine. I was at Chophouse for dinner a couple of weeks ago as part of a large group. I ordered the scallops, and crossed my fingers, given that they can be hard to cook correctly. I was very pleasantly surprised. They were done perfectly, and the portion size was just right. The service was pretty good that night, given the size of our group. My only complaint was that there was a 20% gratuity added to the check, which wasn't mentioned by the server. It was indicated up near the food, and wasn't very apparent on the ticket. A few of us had added our own tips before someone mentioned that it was already included in the bill, causing us to scratch it out and revise the total. Lesson learned. Overall, much better than last time. Still too pricey, but I'll be back occasionally. read more

We visited Chophouse last Friday at 6:30pm. We ordered drinks at about 6:30pm which arrived about 5 minutes later. At that time, we ordered appetizers and dinner. About 7:45pm we had to tell the waitress we were leaving because we haven't received even the appetizers let alone our dinner. Our waitress said a manager would come over to talk to us. He never arrived and at this point, the one year old we brought with us needed to sleep. We found a manager on our way out who told us the kitchen was having "technical issues." This should be have been communicated rather than having customers sit wondering what's happening. read more

Wish we'd discovered this place sooner! We visited for a graduation dinner and had a fantastic experience. Our drinks were all delicious, I loved my grapefruit martini and cosmo, and my dad said his old fashioned was one of the best he's ever had. We ordered the garlic cheese curds and fried pickles as appetizers and loved both. Our family ordered a variety of entrees and everyone was happy--my filet was delicious and the caramelized onion and cheddar mashed potatoes with gravy were amazing. The sweet potato fries were also SO GOOD. We ordered a crème brûlée to share for dessert and it was served with delicious fresh fruit on top. Received a piece of completely raw salmon on my salad to the point where I couldn't eat it. While trying to get someone's attention, the wait staff (including the managers.) were avoiding looking in the direction of our table, while proceeding to help just about everyone else around us. called ro make reservations for a friends birthday. i asked if they would allow me to bring in outside dessert. i was informed that this would be allowed. when we arrived at resturant there were 3 tables with 2 people at each table. i ordered ice water dor out party of 8. our appetizers came out first , then our waters, waitress took drink orders then food order. service was slow and we had to clear out table to make room for dessert. i pick up bill and was see to see a $15 charge for outside desert fee. i was never informed of this charge when making reservation or upon arrival with outside cake. when u call the business it says calls are recorded. i called back to dispute charge and manager wasnt even aware of call recording message. will not be returning to this restaurant read more
