Anyone else completely enthralled by the pictures of shaved ice on the windows as you walk by? Just me? I finally did it, I got the mango shaved ice. On one hand when I paid for it I asked myself why it was $10 or so dollars. And then they brought out this ball of shaved ice to go. Shaved ice, condensed milk, fruit, red beans. I'm here for it. Food was bland and overpriced. I ordered one of the "Signature " dishes -- Happy Family -- and it was perfectly mediocre. No hint of the promised crabmeat. Some shrimp were present, along with ample chicken and beef. Vegetables were done ok -- crisp, not soggy. Very little seasoning was used, and the "sauce" was thin and salty, hardly a "tasty sauce." This is more standard Americanized Chinese. Which I like too, but still. Tiny shop, maybe a couple of counter seats pre-Covid. They were out of some more interesting items I saw online, maybe on an older menu? I called; no online ordering. I got my standard Mongolian beef and crab Rangoon. The beef was tender, tons of green onions and a few white ones, and even some carrots for color and flavor. Sauce was not too salty; all in all a good version. The Rangoons were very average, with no discernible "crab." When I got to the hotel with my food I found no utensils, another disappointment. Maybe they were on the counter but I did not see them. Lot of food for a low price!! They really fill up the container. I think we went for dinner and I only at a third of the dish, so had leftovers for days!! My favorite was the shaved ice though, which had fresh fruit, lychee jellys, and sweet and condensed milk. That was probably my favorite. Otherwise, just very typical chinese takeout! Can't speak for their food but the shaved ice is what I'm here for! The texture is fluffy and smooth and it's flavored with the perfect amount of subtle sweetness-- reminds me of the ones I've had in Asia. The shaved ice bowls are 10 dollars and come with fruit(mango, strawberry, melon), red bean, fruit jelly, and popping boba. Was staying at the Courtyard around the corner for several days. So I walked over to Chopstick one evening to order some Chinese to go. There really isn't room to eat in here. I ordered Hot and Spicy soup, egg rolls, and Kung Pao chicken - my usual order when trying out a new Chinese joint. I was hopeful as to the quality - given all of the enthusiastic Yelp reviews. Overall quick and easy... that's the best part. The food choices are all ready to go, and they are mediocre at best. Not a great value. Decent flavor, seemingly quality ingredients, but just short on the delivery. Spice level was perfect to my liking for kung pao chicken. Just don't expect much as far as fast food Chinese. The food is ok, but the grass jelly desserts are amazing. The beef in the beef with cumin was very dry, the ma po tofu did not have the correct spices or ingredients, and the fried fish stir fry was simply average. However, I highly recommend getting their grass jelly dessert. They really pack a lot of toppings in the bowl and it is just the right amount of sugar. Very nice start to my meal. (I didn't even use sauce) Hot & Sour Soup = B+ Nice mushrooms, bean sprouts, tofu a bit mushy, broth was decent. Above average but not top shelf. Kung Pao Beef = A+ Hot fresh, lots of juicy steak, celery, carrots, zuccini, peanuts all diced up, cooked thoroughly but firm. Perfect Wok cooking. Lots of sauce. I ate the whole thing. The sweet and sour chicken was rock hard so I brought it back,the lady said you'll have to buy more we can't replace it! One word: JUMBO!!! This place has huge shaved iced- and it is DELICIOUS! I got the mango shaved ice, it was perfectly creamy and sweet (along with the fruit to pair with). They give you a cute to-go carrier for it: which is cute and convenient . I was craving Chinese fast food the other day. So, I went to Chopstick and it hit the spot. I ordered the sesame chicken with fried rice as a lunch special, which is a very good price. I'm one of those Chinese people that loves bad Chinese food. Sesame chicken and General Tso's are two of my favorites. There's just something weirdly sinful about getting your chicken tossed in some weird sugary goo that makes my taste buds jump up in excitement. Weird, I know, but I just crave it sometimes. However, when I come to Chopsticks, I often order off their special menu. It tastes pretty traditional and is so cheap. The variety has been increasing these past few years from when they used to have 1 or 2 un-written specials to a whole list. It is definitely one of my go tos when I want something authentic but don't want to drive all the way to Asia town. Affordable, quick and pretty dang good. Service-wise, the place is very well run. They give you a beeper once you order your food, and ours went off reliably when our food was done. Staff was courteous and pleasant. The food, however, didn't suit my fancy. I got the Szechuan Shrimp dish, and I found it extremely bland. There was a tiny bit of salt, and the dish was billed to be spicy, but I couldn't get even a hint of spice from the dish. I was definitely underwhelmed. I expected flavors to burst from the food, but everything just fell flat. That being said, the vegetables and shrimp were, in fact, perfectly cooked, which is why I give this restaurant just a mediocre review and not a bad one. Five stars for a good, cheap Chinese takeout place in Cleveland and University Circle. It's also the only place around here that can satisfy my nostalgic food cravings for food I like to eat back home. It's strange to me that with so many Chinese students at Case there aren't more decent Chinese food places nearby. Basically they have two types of menus. The one on paper and on the big overhead boards are the "Americanized" Chinese dishes, such as orange chicken, Mongolian beef, etc. My partner who is not Chinese loves their General Tsao chicken lunch. It's a pretty good price for the amount of food, and you get a free soda or a soup. The other menu is the more "authentic" menu that Chinese people who want Chinese food actually order from. It's on the left side wall written in neon colors. The menu changes from time to time but several dishes always stay. The one that I always order is the MáLà noodle, because it somehow reminds me of MáLà tang (麻辣烫). Even though it's still pretty different, the dish is as spicy and flavorful. One of my friends said he's got food poisoning from their food but I've eaten here close to twenty times now and have never had any problems. I guess if you're in doubt, just go for the MáLà noodles! read more
