The hygienist was a nice person but it was like she just roughly jabbed my mouth and gums and did little to nothing to actually clean my teeth. I didn't even have an exam and they tried to charge me $300. After I questioned why I'm paying more than ever, they said "oh, you were getting a 50% discount, we'll honor that this time. It's $180." Are you kidding me that's the average cost for a normal visit anywhere! What finally broke the camels back, just a month after my last cleaning, this June while traveling I had developed an infection around a 30 year old root canal and had to get an extraction and bone graft. When I got back to PHX I inquired with Herring about help to adjust my flipper and they said $180 dollars for him to look at it and he won't do anything to "another Dentist's work" and it'd be an additional $300 on top of the $180 to make me a new flipper. I told them I'll find another dentist. I found 2 who quoted me -~$100 for a visit to adjust it. I feel so absolutely uncared for by Herring Family Dental. I have been a patient since literally day one and I was treated with no concern for what I had been through. No call back. Nothing. I didn't want to get work done outside of my city, but I had no choice. I would think my long time dentist would care for me more than others, but no. I found random strangers to do better... well, Thompson Peak isn't random I had been a patient there years ago when I was closer to their office, the service was great. Sadly I can't say the same for Herring. Definitely do not recommend.

It was literally the most thorough dental exam I've ever had, with digital X-rays (including the panos that my last dentist didn't do), CT scans if needed, lots of photos, a tooth-by-tooth evaluation, oral cancer screening, even looking at mobility, jaw movement, etc. (Finally my knowledge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle comes in handy.) Dr. Pappas even pointed out something I'd brought up to a different dentist years ago and had completely forgotten about. He's also very transparent about whether a treatment can wait or needs to be done right away. The hygienist I had was also very thorough, so I definitely felt like I was in good hands all around. I switched here after a decade at a different dental clinic that had been cutting a lot of corners. As someone without specialized knowledge, navigating dental care can be frustrating and time-consuming. I find it so frustrating--as someone with no real knowledge of dentistry--when I feel like I to have to spend time attempting to research what dentists or other doctors should be doing so I can make sure they actually do it, or to figure out what to do about pain or issues they dismiss or tell me to ignore. We all have enough things to worry about without trying to become amateur dental or medical researchers. So it's a breath of fresh air to go somewhere like Arcadia Dental Arts where I can just kick back and relax knowing they're covering all the bases. Also the office is really nice, and it's right near Lola Coffee. And they have a super cute new patient gift bag, which was a nice touch! Glad to have found a new dental home.

The staff member reviewing the estimate mentioned they might not be able to provide a standard cleaning if a deep cleaning was recommended, which seems to align with concerns mentioned in other reviews. They ultimately did proceed with a cleaning, but it was one of the most rushed and ineffective experiences I've ever had. The entire cleaning lasted under 15 minutes. When I brought up how rushed it felt and my concerns about not being thorough, I was told it was a standard prophylactic cleaning but I get cleanings every six months, and I know what a proper one feels like. This was not it. To make matters worse, I felt like I was being rushed out of the chair the moment it ended. I won't be returning and would strongly encourage others to get a second opinion before committing to any expensive treatment plan here.

I went with a different place at first because it was closer to where we were living. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I ended up having a bad experience there and finally switched to S&L. Dr. Ngo and his team fixed everything the other dentist had messed up. Right away I knew my wife had been right all along. I've been going to S&L for four years now and they really are the best dental office I've ever been to. Dr. Ngo has removed all my old metal fillings and replaced them with modern ones, plus he's done a couple of crowns for me. Everything looks and feels great. My wife has also been extremely happy with all the work he's done for her too. I'm almost 55 and I've seen a bunch of top-rated, highly recommended dentists over the years, both here in the US and a couple in Mexico. Nothing else comes close. One thing I have to mention is how good Dr. Ngo is with people who hate dental visits or get nervous about pain. His work is excellent, but it's the way he takes care of you that makes the biggest difference. For example, the way he does Novocaine shots is unbelievable. You barely feel it at all. Every dentist out there should learn his technique. With all that said, I do think the front office experience could be better. If the customer service up front matched Dr. David's clearly caring vibe, it would be 100% perfect. I went in there looking like I was dating my cousin and left looking like I'm dating the cast of the Real Housewives of Miami. Dr. Patel is second to none, and he has an amazing staff. Every one of his staff members that I have had any interaction with are great, but the main ones I have had interactions with are Dr. Patel and his assistant Little Jackie, as well as Nicole, the treatment coordinator. She always helps me figure out my life and updates my treatment plan every time I go (finally down to one page). Liz helped me book the appointment that changed my teeth forever. I went in there with a messed-up grill, like I had been chewing on a brick. Dr. came up with an amazing plan to get me back to looking human, and Little Jackie was so kind and showed empathy. She is excellent at her job. She made me feel like she understood what I was going through and it made the whole process so much better. I had some horror-movie type of stuff done, but thanks to the amazing skills of Dr. Patel, I never felt any pain. I have had multiple extractions, root canals, fillings and crowns; no pain at all. My last dentist was so bad. He had a new staff every time I went, and on top of that he put ALL CAPS on my teeth so I couldn't stop yelling ha ha. I was about to give up, but one amazing Saturday morning I woke up with the most excruciating pain in my mouth that my eyebrows were throbbing. It was so bad I laid in the bathtub in the fetal position eating Ibuprofen until Monday morning when I called Dr. Patel's office for the first time. I was a brand-new patient, so I slipped Liz a $100 and she got me in that same day (jk, Liz got me in with no bribe) and Dr. Patel extracted my tooth on the spot. Even though he risked missing his 3:30 p.m. tee time, he put me first (instant relief). I have been a fan ever since. If you ever feel intimidated or nervous, don't worry--Dr. Patel will give you some shots, top-shelf stuff. I just hope he doesn't retire before I'm done with my treatment plan or I'm going to have to finish it in Nogales, Mexico.
