We love Chow Hound Pet Supplies and go there for all our cat stuff. Food, litter, toys, treats... lots of treats! This is a locally owned store which we love supporting. The employees are typically super helpful and will even look to see if an item is in stock at other Chow Hound locations if you need something specific. I love visiting the foster kitties at this location! The freshly baked dog cookies are so fun, they almost make me wish I had a dog. I also love seeing the dogs that come in since it's a pet-friendly store. If you sign up for their rewards program, you can get coupons. Note that some coupons are only valid on online orders. You can also order online for in-store pickup, which is nice. This location is closest to our home but we also like the Burton & Breton location. They also offer lots of great services including a dog wash, delivery within 5 miles of the store, dog obedience training classes, and pet wellness clinics! If you have a pet I'd definitely recommend Chow Hound for all your pet needs. read more

We recently moved to Grand Rapids from Washington. We had never heard of this store and went to check it out. It's a great store, save for one thing. They, like so many other pet supply stores, sell small animals. Most if not all of these animals are from mill situations. Also, the cages are too small for the animals they have. There are so many critters in shelters and rescues. I wish all the pet supply stores would stop selling animals, just sell supplies, and maybe have an area for local rescues/shelters to come in for adoptions. read more

Oh Chow Hound, my favorite pet supply store. What are my reasons? Certainly proximity to home is a plus. Really though, the reasons are so much deeper than that. I love the giant selection of super healthy food and cookies for my dogs. I like all of the many colored leashes and collars. But, I really like the frequent buyer club for dog kibble. My bullmastiff weighs 135#. He is a big eater. We had a pitbull mix who weighed about 80#. We have purchased so much kibble in the last 4 years... So much. Getting a free bag of food has been a great money saver. On tonight's visit all we wanted was a new bowl for all of that kibble. We had a coupon (join the club.... Totally worth it!) We are contemplating an addition of a kitten into our busy home. We asked approximately 3 million questions about what we'll need, what to feed, and how to introduce. We were treated with such patience and individual service. This is why we like Chow Hound so much. Somehow though, I managed on my many previous visits to miss the fact that I could purchase pet tags there. That would have saved my son and I so much time traipsing around to the other pet supply stores today . Now we know. Love it here! read more

Chow Hound is a local, family owned business and a great alternative to the big box pet stores. With friendly service and a space that caters to mostly dogs and cats (although they do have some things for small pets), it's easy to find what you need and fun to go here. The price for our Nutro dog food is usually lower then other places in town without coupons or savers clubs. I can take my dogs in when we shop too. They even keep their cool around the cats that parade around the store. If my dogs weren't able to be bathed in the kitchen sink (they are 10 and 15 pounds) I would bring them here to the self-serve dog wash. Everything you need is stocked and ready to go and you don't have to worry about clean up. I live somewhat close to both the 28th street location and this Breton Village mall location. Of the two I would recommend this one for the service, selection and overall experience. Just remember to drive around back of the mall for their main door. read more

The rodents cages are not kept clean. It oder is very strong, and I could not see any food. I pointed this out to the employees and they said they clean their cages once a week and they can't help it if they pee alot. What kind of answer is this? This is a disturbing situation. They probably should change the name to Chow Hound Pet Food and Snacks. Went to purchases an antifungal cream for my dog and they didn't have anything like that. The recommended I contact my vet. How does a pet supply story not carry a common product? When there I was going to buy a raw hide bone for my dog and got to the register and the bone rang up at twice the price that it was marked for. Went to Meijer and what do you know they had a dozen product choices for antifungal/ anti itch medicine. Also the raw hide were less than half the price. Save your time and money and shop somewhere else. read more

What a great store! The entire staff is absolutely amazing. Ash in particular (I believe she is an assistant manager) is very helpful. I just got a kitten and I needed advice on what to feed her, since I am a first time cat owner. Ash gave me some very helpful advice about raw food and set me up with everything I needed to care for my new furry friend. The store is clean, beautifully stocked, and they run a good deal of promotions that let me save money. I also signed up for their rewards program so I could get even more deals. I am definitely going back when. I also really appreciate that they adopt out animals from the Humane Society. Really awesome place! read more
