I'm a cat owner and they have had everything I need. The have the high quality Blue Buffalo and many other similar brands. They also have a good selection for cat litter. My vet no longer offered any grooming services this year so I had been on the hunt for a place close to home and thought I would try petco! I had a great experience, staff was super friendly, took great care of my pup, and gave her lots of love! She doesn't allow us to trim her nails so having a place I trust is amazing! If I could give 0- Stars I would. I arrived at this location at 6:15 pm to purchase goldfish with my 8-year-old. At 6:20 I asked for help getting the fish. I was told they were short-staffed and that someone would be with me shortly. I and another family proceeded to wait 15 minutes and separately we both went up to the front cashier to ask if someone was coming back and was told I needed to be patient and someone would be there shortly. I waited another 10 mins to go check if someone was still coming they said yes they knew I was waiting. This put us around 6:45 pm I knew the store closed at 7 pm so I continued to wait. NO ONE CAME. I proceeded to go the the front again at 6:55 and was told that they wouldn't help me this close to closing. The other family had already left. We left without being helped. Your staff need to realize how unprofessional this behavior is and you should consider revamping your entire management of this location. I will never shop there again and I will spread the word to others that any other pet store is a better choice to shop. I won't be surprised when this location shuts down. read more

I've been taking my dog to get groomed here for 4 years now, and even though my dog HATES baths and nail trimmings, the one time we saw his groomer (Molly) out in the parking lot, he RAN to her, so I know she takes really good care of him! He always looks and smells great after his groomings, too. I'm finally getting around to writing this review now because today there was another customer who was complaining that her dog had gotten fleas from when it had been groomed here -- TWO WEEKS AGO! Both Molly and Amy, the store manager, were very polite and courteous when dealing with this customer, but seriously, IT'S THE OWNER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE THE PET'S VACCINATIONS AND FLEA PREVENTION UP TO DATE. went in the other day to pick up a cage I long researched to fit MY BUDGET, SPACE, & hamsters needs. this employee repeatedly tried to force a much more expensive & larger cage on me, telling me I shouldn't buy the one i Initially came for. She said petco sells those even those they're bad for hamsters. finally after about 5 minutes of terrible persuasion, I lost it and said "can I have a minute to decide before we're forced into buying this cage????" I'm a pet parent of 8+ years. I don't need you to tell me which one of my purchases is right or wrong. Tell me how much the damn cage is and LET ME MAKE MY PURCHASE. Enrolled my dog, Brady, in training classes at Alpine Petco. I found his trainer, Stacey, to be knowledgeable, patient, and having a good balance with communications between customer, Dog, and trainer. Brady and I learned a lot. Well worth the time and money. read more

Do not use the Vetco service! I took my dog to get vaccinated and specifically requested she receive the Canine Influeza vaccine cause it is required by the facility I was boarding her at. And I was assured it was included in the package. When I brought her records to the kennel I was told she couldn't stay cause she had not received the proper vaccinations. The vet that Petco has is absolutely unprofessional and did not know how to properly restrain a dog when drawing blood. read more

Kimmy always take such good care of our boy Nash. He's always so handsome when she is done with him. Soon after a recent hip surgery Kimmy made sure he was safe when he was being groomed and took extra special care and time to ensure he was comfortable. This is by far the worst groomer I've ever been to. It took them over 3 hours, and I don't even think they actually washed my dog. I think they just sprayed him down, because he was still half wet when I picked him up. He looked the exact same as when I left him- except being wet. Not to mention I was quoted $36.00 and it cost me almost $50.00. Take your dog to someone who prefers quality over quantity. This review is in regards to their small animals, which are kept in pretty bad conditions. Many looked sick. Cages were either overcrowded or had only one animal (rat - they are social and can become ill on their own). The rats I saw looked to have URIs. Even if you're buying them as feeders (their rats are sized "small" "medium" and "large", ugh) you shouldn't want to feed your reptile sick animals. Made me very sad; I won't shop there again. read more

This is my go-to place whenever I'm in need of anything pet related. They have one of the largest selections of items I've seen in the Grand Rapids area, and as the mom of two high-needs fur babies, I really appreciate it. The customer service is always stellar and they actually have employees who don't disappear when you have a question. Each of the employees I've spoken with are obviously pet lovers themselves, which helps me value their advice all that much more. read more

I recently purchased a 20'' florescent light fixture for my aquarium from Petco, and upon opening the packaging discovered that the fixture did not work, and had obviously been used in an aquarium for some time. (Hard water deposits were on the exterior of the device, along with water stains on the instructions.) I promptly went back to Petco (Same day as purchase.) with my receipt to return the product, but the manager on duty would not accept the lighting fixture, as, "The manufacturer would never factory seal a used product". I explained to him in a very clear, and friendly way that this was the original condition of the product as when I received it, and even offered to show him pictures of my current aquarium setup, where I use a much larger boxy looking Incandescent lighting fixture.... In return he called me a liar and accused me of trying to steal from him by placing a used product in the box and trying to return it for money. Eventually he allowed the return of my money, but only after harrassing me for over 20 minutes. There are several other complaints on their website about similar instances of a product being re-packaged and advertised as "new". I have bought many products / fish from this location before and have had no problems. However, I will no longer be bringing my business to this location, or any other petco for that matter. If I could rate this location lower than a one star I would. There are several other aquarium shops in the GR area (The Blue aquarium on Wilson, Petsmart grandville, Petsmart 28th st. ect.) that are much friendlier. read more
