Got two boxes of baked goods: pies, donuts, cinnamon roll type donut, muffins, and the photo is only of one of the boxes. Also got cookies and ordered a couple breakfast sandwiches and pizza rolls. The line was long in the AM, basically out the door, but it moved fairly quickly. There is only one line, but on the right side of the counter (when facing) are the breakfast sandwiches and pizza type items (do not miss out on these). The shop is small and cute, there's a drive through as well, if you'd rather not go inside. We loved the donuts and breakfast sandwiches so much that we went back again a couple days later, no lie. Our favorite was the sausage breakfast sandwich, glazed donuts, and maple donuts. Oh, and they heat up the sandwiches/savory goods for you. Honestly though, do yourself a favor and try it all. We basically got one of everything they had. No regrets.

I checked out Noona's offerings and decided on a pineapple turnover and a Red Bean pastry. To be honest I chose both because I have never eaten either one before. Red Bean Cakes are an East Asian treat made from red bean paste and wrapped in a soft dough. They symbolize luck, prosperity, and ancestral respect. When you visit, they have little take away boxes and serving tongs that you use to place your orders into the box. Not everything is available for self selection. Some of the items are behind a glass display case. The Red Bean Cakes was smooth and silky with a nice soft pillowy dough around it. I took a few bites while sitting at the outside table and the proprietor asked me if I would like her to warm it up. I agreed and a few seconds later she was returning with my warmed bean cake. Maybe I have simple tastes, but I think I preferred the bean cake room temperature. Both ways were delicious, I just liked it a little better before it was warmed. The pineapple turnover was a joy to eat. I love pineapple and was not disappointed with this turnover! The dough was perfectly flaky the way turnovers should be and the pineapple filling was wonderful!

My husband tried their Jalapeño cheddar quiche with his soy latte and he was pleased. I had the kolache for the first time and I loved them for the bread softness. I asked to warm the sausage kolache in the oven and it tasted better. Then we shared the Marion berry kolache! Yummy!! Ellie (sp.?) served us nicely. The place has few tables to sit in and enjoy the goodies while we savor them and the peacefulness of the moment. I am always drawn to the aroma of the freshly baked bread and danish.

I've been here several times and each time I left thinking it would be my last. My intention is not to dump on a small business so I'll do my best to offer a sincere critique. Ambiance: No music, mostly empty shelves, sparse selection of baked goods, feels a bit empty--like they're going out of business. Any one of these could be overlooked but combined they make for a poor experience. Food/drink: Coffee is on par with what's around here. You won't find specialty roasts or fancy techniques, but it's good. If you're looking for fancy-pants coffee you'll have to head to Pelican Bay bookstore in Anacortes. The baked goods I've tried are, unfortunately, underwhelming. I typically go for their gluten free options and have found them to have textures that are too grainy with flavors on the bland side. The cookies are fine, the gluten free scones are quite bad--flavorless, super dense and hard, not crumbly, kinda sticky. This was the only baked good I've ever tossed. I have yet to try their pies or cakes. Their regular cookies are pretty good but are a bit pricey for the size. Staff: The staff seem a little awkward and shy. I prefer a friendly customer experience. I've only had one visit here where the staff made an attempt at small talk. Usually they stay out of sight. Someone else might like this, it's just not for me. Final thoughts: I'm giving Amaya's 3 stars not because I think they've necessarily earned them, but bc I want them to succeed and I've only been here 4 or 5 times so I don't have a robust experience sample. I hope they do well and would still encourage a visit. We need more small businesses. I would, however, discourage the gluten free scones. Avoid them at all costs

The omelet was fluffy, the potatoes were delicious, and the portions were generous. It was one of those meals that had us talking about how good it was long after we finished. I came for ONE cookie. ONE. What I found was an absolute wall of bakery beautifulness that stopped me dead in my tracks. The line was out the door, not surprisingly but I needed every minute of that wait to make my decisions. Final verdict: a raspberry kiss mocha (dreamy), a lemondoodle cookie (excuse me, WHAT), and a molasses cookie that I'm still thinking about. To. Die. For. My husband went rogue and ordered a Lotus drink, which unfortunately arrived as approximately 90% soda water with the flavor just... vibing separately at the bottom. We tried. We stirred. We let it go. Stick to the baked goods, friends. The staff was warm and lovely even with a line out the door, which is its own kind of superpower. Calico Cupboard, I will be back. Ideally with a seat at an actual table someday. And maybe six cookies this time.
