Adorable local small town bakery and restaurant. My jaw dropped wide open whenever I looked at their bakery goods. Three different types of cinnamon rolls, including apple, maple, bacon, and caramel pecan. They even have gluten-free items. Mouthwatering quiches as well as cookies and bars. Traditional breakfast and lunch items. Building was the Coast Guard offices in 1887. Fantastic servers, full of suggestions and help on the local spots. Don't miss this gem!

Lovely place for breakfast with extravagant baked goods. Located on the water in the old Coast Guard station from 1887. 6-7 dollars for a cinnamon roll sounds high but they are the size of 3-4 regular rolls and eminantly shareable. Prices track the local rates so fairish $5 coffee.

We went here around 1:30pm on a Saturday and were immediately seated inside. There was still a long waitlist outside, but since we were hungry and will check out the iconic Rainbow Bridge of La Conner, we opted to just quickly eat and explore after. We tried the PNW sandwich and grandma's turkey pot pie. PNW sandwich was interesting as the bread used was focaccia, with egg, cheddar, bacon, avocado, tomato, and garlic aioli. It was a really flavorful and innovative sandwich so I enjoyed it. It came with a choice of potatoes or fruit and I opted for potatoes which were half smashed with the right amount of texture. Turkey pot pie is like chicken pot pie, and I'm glad that we were able to order that just by itself without the soup of the day as we didn't want to eat too much. It was $15 instead of $21 so it was a nice savings. The pot pie is okay - the filling is creamy and a bit on the saltier side but the crust didn't carry as much flavor. As they were famous for freshly baked pies, I was hoping they nailed this type of pie too. Service was good but baseline for an American restaurant, checking up on us regularly. Overall, good option for breakfast foods but would not wait for a table here.

Tried and true. This is the first location of Calico Cupboard which opened in 1981. It's woman-owned and one of the best choices for a bite in La Conner. Our server was Addi - what a sweetheart. I'd call it creative comfort food. Grab a table on the deck; don't forget to hit the pastry counter on the way out. PS. If you're lucky, you may have a Billy Goat sighting while walking down 1st Street~

We came for a late lunch on a Friday and were seated pretty quickly on the outdoor patio with our dog. The patio was peaceful with a nice view- a relaxing spot to enjoy a meal! We ordered the Calico Clam Chowder, Bacon and Cheese Omelette, and Blackened Bleu Bacon Burger. Everything was delicious and filling. They were all classics, and my favorite was the clam chowder! Service was adequate- nothing standout but efficient enough for a casual lunch. I'd like to come back and check out their bakery next time since I've heard great things about their pastries. Overall, I had a solid lunch experience!

I visited this cute little restaurant solo when I had a few hours to burn before meeting up with a friend on a roadtrip. I was drawn in by the menu and when I walked in, was quickly welcomed and seated in a cozy corner, a perfect spot for some reading and people watching. I honestly wished I could have eaten here a few times so I could try all the things, but I had the salmon eggs Benedict on their in house baked English muffins (holy moly delicious) and the apple cinnamon roll... and it was so good. For my gluten free friends - lots of GF options including the bakery items which I always appreciate. As I was leaving the place had filled up for the lunch rush so clearly it's not a secret, but with the amazing attentive service and yummy food, highly recommend.

Came at Monday noon, and it was full but only a 5 min wait for the 3 of us. Smoked salmon hash: this was the best out of the 3. The salmon was in bits so every bite had it and there was a slight sweetness but not noticeable when eating with the hash. Calico Benedict with English muffin: had this for the corned beef which was not bad but didn't think it went the best as a Benedict. You get a choice of fruit or potatoes and we had the latter instead which went well with the hollandaise sauce. Breakfast Bowl: I love a good sausage Gravy, and this was good but wish there was a little bit more of it. A good dish but not something I'd get again. Cinnamon roll: wow, I'm not a fan of cinnamon rolls but this was good. It was warm and gave you a generous amount of icing and the portion itself was big. We got the original, and this blew me away. Cream puff: this is indeed enormous to its name, with both custard and whipped cream. This was good but the cinnamon roll was much better.

My friend researched this place as our breakfast spot on our way to deception pass. Our waiter, Gaby (spelling?) really saved our experience because our host was incredibly rude. We had a service dog, asked if we could sit either inside or outside, she snarked back "outside", and seated us in the corner far from everyone else at a small square table for 4 regardless of our group size of 5. Honestly, we almost left because of her attitude and disrespect, especially seeing her treat other groups with kindness and flexibility. Gaby (and our friend who took our beverage order) really came through and saved the day. She was such a nice, funny, kind, and attentive waitress. She also made our group feel very welcomed and taken care of. We all agreed we'd come back for her service! The food was also so delicious! We were FILLED for our whole adventure.

At 8:30am on a Saturday, we got seated in 20 min. It was very busy and we would have waited longer if we had a larger party. Our food took maybe 20 min to come out. Our waitress was super nice. We ordered the banana coconut pancakes and squash hash, both very good. The lattes were standard.

There is some street parking, but we ended up parking in a public parking lot north of the cafe. The place is cute and charming, and it's decorated with art that is for sale. The menu on the wall was just for drinks, and their food menu was laminated nearby for us to peruse. We had a nice chat with JJ (who I think is the co-owner), and he was very bubbly and nice. It was fun to witness his kindness to other customers and neighbors as they came in. This place seems very involved with the community. There are a few tables both outside and inside. The TV behind us was playing Pandora for radio music. Nearby, they had some free chocolate-covered coffee beans and your own water and silverware station. I got an Arnold Palmer, and boy, was it tart! I got my own sugar to try to sweeten it up. I also ate the Ricky Ricardo panini, and it wasn't my favorite. The aioli wasn't flavorful enough for me to notice, or maybe it was missing, and the pickles were too thick. I didn't love the flavor profile on this sandwich, and it was pretty hot (in temperature) to eat, so I had to let it cool down a bit. Connor loved his smoked salmon toast! There were a ton of capers, so lots of salt there. The herbed cream cheese was the star of the show, with the flavorful toast being a close second. He really appreciated it. I think I'd be happy to come back and try a different sandwich.

I was left speechless (not really) and had a dozen questions for JJ and Krista on Mother's Day about this specialty drink. It's such a hit that I had to buy their syrup for making millionaire bacon in the near future. Hubby ordered tea and the croissant sandwich. It was super filling. I liked the ambience, the people, the food and drinks so much we returned the next day and bought the same things, plus a two toned hoodie, and 3 desserts. Eldest daughter loved the tartness of the lemon bar. I enjoyed the bread pudding after warming it up in my toaster oven at home because I was too full to eat it there. The tiramisu cheesecake was mild and delicate, not overly heavy. The only critique I have is the blended berry Greek yogurt. It was a typical grocery store yogurt. Okay.

The cafe was very busy when we arrived and had to wait about 20 minutes for an open table out on the deck. Due to how busy it was, I had high hopes that the food was good. Unfortunately it felt more catered to the one and done tourist - take their money with over priced mediocre food that certainly did not command either aesthetics or taste. What we ordered: 1. Fried calamari $18: this was the smallest portion on an appetizer plate with three calamari rings and a handful of what appeared to be minuscule tentacle pieces heavily battered to give the dish the appearance of "more". Bland and oily - nothing really outstanding here. 2. Captain's Platter $28: this was the most expensive item on the menu. I ordered it hoping that at least quantity wise it would be satisfying. It came with one fried piece of cod, one fried piece of halibut, four fried shrimp and fries. I have never eaten more bland fries in my life. They weren't even crunchy but soggy with oil as they laid under the fried fish, which likely was hurriedly plated on the fries without letting the oil drip off. The fish was overcooked for sure - the cod was so small that I was honestly offended. The shrimp - undercooked. 3. Strawberry lemonade $5: standard, on the sour side. The only pleasant thing I have to say is that the hostess and waitress were very sweet. They were definitely understaffed and I felt badly for them so I tipped well. But I would not go back and do not recommend - unless you like to waste your vacation money on this tourist trap.

Affordable lunch burger and a beer? Yup. Fancy date night romantic dinner with craft cocktails? Heck yeah. Combining a casual, marine-themed ambiance with quaint La Conner vibes, and adding in some truly delish food and drink, there are few places in the area I'd rather eat. My favorite here is their bouillabaisse, with big pieces of fish, half a fresh Dungeness crab, sausage, and all the goodness cooked in their house-made broth. All I can say is: try it. Their raw oysters are also a favorite, but I can't say I've ever had a bad dish here. One time I swung out and tried their pork chop, which was truly sent from heaven. Their wine list contains several affordable options - on one visit our group enjoyed two bottles of an exquisite rose. And if gin is in your repertoire, don't miss the Empress Aviation which is not only pretty to look at, but quite tasty as well. Their happy hour features incredible drink and appy discounts, including half price bottles of wine. And I'd be remiss not to mention their friendly, lovely service.
