The omelet was fluffy, the potatoes were delicious, and the portions were generous. It was one of those meals that had us talking about how good it was long after we finished. What made the experience even better was the incredible service. Our waiter, Stevie, was so sweet, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. You can tell he genuinely cares about his guests. We also want to give a special shoutout to Emily, who took the time to stop and chat with our daughter. The line was out the door, not surprisingly but I needed every minute of that wait to make my decisions. Final verdict: a raspberry kiss mocha (dreamy), a lemondoodle cookie (excuse me, WHAT), and a molasses cookie that I'm still thinking about. To. Die. For. My husband went rogue and ordered a Lotus drink, which unfortunately arrived as approximately 90% soda water with the flavor just... vibing separately at the bottom. We tried. We stirred. This is only a review of the coffee: Overall 3/5. Coffee itself was good and smooth. The ice tasted bad (like tap water mixed with an ice machine that hasn't been cleaned in a month or so), and the regular water just tasted like tap (didn't seem like they had a filtration system). Adorable local small town bakery and restaurant. My jaw dropped wide open whenever I looked at their bakery goods. Three different types of cinnamon rolls, including apple, maple, bacon, and caramel pecan. They even have gluten-free items. Mouthwatering quiches as well as cookies and bars. First time here on a Saturday, and it was such a great find. The place feels cozy, quaint, and has that comfortable local small-business charm. It was busy, but we were greeted right away and seated quickly. The service was excellent--everyone was so friendly and warm. Absolutely amazing. I had low-ish expectations for this small town, but was so surprised! We were seated right away around 10am on a Sunday and got a lovely seat outside with a shady umbrella. They have plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options. Even gluten free pancakes! I ended up getting a smoked salmon scramble and it was amazing! So flavorful and rich. They gave me a gluten free toast with it as well and some lovely jam. They also had a lovely bakery inside with some gluten free options. Our server was wonderful and kind. We went here around 1:30pm on a Saturday and were immediately seated inside. There was still a long waitlist outside, but since we were hungry and will check out the iconic Rainbow Bridge of La Conner, we opted to just quickly eat and explore after. We tried the PNW sandwich and grandma's turkey pot pie. PNW sandwich was interesting as the bread used was focaccia, with egg, cheddar, bacon, avocado, tomato, and garlic aioli. It was a really flavorful and innovative sandwich so I enjoyed it. It came with a choice of potatoes or fruit and I opted for potatoes which were half smashed with the right amount of texture. Turkey pot pie is like chicken pot pie, and I'm glad that we were able to order that just by itself without the soup of the day as we didn't want to eat too much. It was $15 instead of $21 so it was a nice savings. The pot pie is okay - the filling is creamy and a bit on the saltier side but the crust didn't carry as much flavor. As they were famous for freshly baked pies, I was hoping they nailed this type of pie too. Service was good but baseline for an American restaurant, checking up on us regularly. We came for a late lunch on a Friday and were seated pretty quickly on the outdoor patio with our dog. The patio was peaceful with a nice view- a relaxing spot to enjoy a meal! We ordered the Calico Clam Chowder, Bacon and Cheese Omelette, and Blackened Bleu Bacon Burger. Everything was delicious and filling. They were all classics, and my favorite was the clam chowder! Service was adequate- nothing standout but efficient enough for a casual lunch. I'd like to come back and check out their bakery next time since I've heard great things about their pastries. I visited this cute little restaurant solo when I had a few hours to burn before meeting up with a friend on a roadtrip. I was drawn in by the menu and when I walked in, was quickly welcomed and seated in a cozy corner, a perfect spot for some reading and people watching. I honestly wished I could have eaten here a few times so I could try all the things, but I had the salmon eggs Benedict on their in house baked English muffins (holy moly delicious) and the apple cinnamon roll... and it was so good. For my gluten free friends - lots of GF options including the bakery items which I always appreciate. Came at Monday noon, and it was full but only a 5 min wait for the 3 of us. Smoked salmon hash: this was the best out of the 3. The salmon was in bits so every bite had it and there was a slight sweetness but not noticeable when eating with the hash. Calico Benedict with English muffin: had this for the corned beef which was not bad but didn't think it went the best as a Benedict. You get a choice of fruit or potatoes and we had the latter instead which went well with the hollandaise sauce. Breakfast Bowl: I love a good sausage Gravy, and this was good but wish there was a little bit more of it. A good dish but not something I'd get again. Cinnamon roll: wow, I'm not a fan of cinnamon rolls but this was good. It was warm and gave you a generous amount of icing and the portion itself was big. We got the original, and this blew me away. My friend researched this place as our breakfast spot on our way to deception pass. Our waiter, Gaby (spelling?) really saved our experience because our host was incredibly rude. We had a service dog, asked if we could sit either inside or outside, she snarked back "outside", and seated us in the corner far from everyone else at a small square table for 4 regardless of our group size of 5. Honestly, we almost left because of her attitude and disrespect, especially seeing her treat other groups with kindness and flexibility. Gaby (and our friend who took our beverage order) really came through and saved the day. She was such a nice, funny, kind, and attentive waitress. I need to go back for things in the bakery case by the front door. If I wasn't with friends I would have bought about a dozen things and called it the day. But we sat and ate and I am glad we did ! You pay for the freshness and it shows. That sausage for the breakfast sandwich was top notch. The croissant and my friends muffin also made the meal that much enjoyable. Hopefully the fews days we are here I can get back and try a few more things and grab many bake goods to eat on the road to the next stop! We've been to La Conner many times. I was looking forward to purchasing some bakery items from this cute bakery, cafe. I purchased a triple berry pie. With taxes $40. The pie was juicy, apparently lacking a thickening agent, cornstarch or flour. It floated in the juice. I noticed the girl wrapping it had to remove wrap soaked in juice & kept wiping around the pie plate. They sold it to me that way. The crust was almost like store bought, not flaky but gooey. Nope not good. Beware $40 is a lot of money for a bad pie. I should have taken it back, I had no receipt but it might have been worth the try. Inconvenient. read more

Calico Cupboard is, without question, the only true breakfast and brunch restaurant in town, which means they hold a bit of a monopoly. And honestly, they lean into that comfort zone. With decades of history and a loyal following, it's easy to see why they have so many glowing reviews. But context matters. Their core customers tend to be older (largely over 65) and local, so the bar for what counts as "great" food isn't necessarily set by big city standards. Now, to be fair: the food has potential. They bake their own biscuits, english muffins, and breads which is cool. But the execution feels super uninspired. . .like they know they'll have a packed dining room regardless. Take the eggs benedict, for example: served on the dryest barely toasted English muffin. Toasting and buttering the muffin should be standard for eggs benny. And then there's the service. Unfortunately, that's where things really fall apart. It took over twenty minutes just to get water. Our server brought drinks to a table that arrived half an hour after us before even acknowledging we were waiting. When we finally got her attention, she dropped off water without a word, no apology, no warmth. We ordered a breakfast sandwich on an English muffin and received it on a biscuit instead. When we pointed it out, the server flatly said she'd "let the cooks know" and walked away, no effort to make it right, no smile, nothing. As someone who's worked in the service industry, it's disheartening to see such apathy. In short, Calico Cupboard has the bones of a great restaurant: history, charm, and scratch made baked goods. WOW. Five stars! Located across the street from our hotel, this place tantalized us with the smell of baking cookies at night and pastries in the morning. We had to try it! Inside and outside dining, we tried the outside seating and it's right on the river, the local boardwalk starting on the corner of the cafe. Lots of people walking by, not intrusive, friendly, sociable, and loving on our cute puppy. I'd give the staff a sixth star if I could, because even before our orders for coffee, water, juice were taken, our server brought a large bowl of water for our puppy. We were joined by family about 15 minutes after getting there, and they brought their Akita -- which got his own dish of water. Anyone who considers a dog as another creature to be cared for is ACES in my book. For those of you who don't speak either poker or aviation, that means "finest kind." Truly! The breakfast was magnificent, perfectly cooked and spiced. Quite possibly the BEST I've ever had, certainly the best I've had in a long time. I had a slice of cherry strudel (or was it a slice of cherry pie?) that was so good, we sliced it into 6 pieces and shared it with our tablemates. We ordered a second one to go. Yes, it was THAT good.: dark, delicious cherries in a perfect crust and topping. Not enough Ms in yummmmm. Service was exception without being cloying or intrusive. Our coffee cups were kept topped-off, as were our water glasses. We were checked frequently by our server who missed NOTHING, even being as busy as she was (this is a very popular place with a lot of regulars). Did I mention that the coffee is great, and strong enough to etch the enamel on your teeth? Finest kind. Prices? Well, in this crazy world -- with the excesses of the past five years or so, they've par for the course -- but the prices pale in comparison to the quality and presentation of the food, and its superlative preparation. A nice small town country feel. You enter right into their bakery which looks absolutely divine and is stocked with an assortment of mazing looking pastries. We opted to sit out back on the patio which has a handful of small four person tables right out on the pier so you can see the boats go by. The service was friendly, but delayed. Once we were seated it seemed to take a while until our server came by for our drink orders. I mean, it wasn't an ungodly amount of time, but it was long enough that our party of four was ready to order our food at the same time. I ordered The Farm Burger in the "Whole Farm" configuration (which means that you get the beef patty, bacon (that was nice and crunchy), and an egg over easy along with grilled onions and Thousand Island dressing. The bun was hearty and dense (I think it was potato maybe?), but it was definitely heavy. The kettle chips were so, so and it might be worth opting for fries. I love the name (you get the cow, pig and chicken), it's always fun to see a nice pithy title. So, why only 3 stars? Well, you might say this is me being nit picky, but then so were they. We ordered four lemonades. Two were traditional and two with flavor. They charge $5.50 for a lemonade and $1.00 for the flavor. Towards the latter part of our meal, when the server dropped off the check, the two that ordered the flavored lemonades asked for a refill and were advised that there would be an additional charge. When we asked if they could just refill with the classic lemonade there would still be an additional charge, but those that ordered the classic lemonades had free refills which just didn't make sense to me. You're paying $5.50 for the classic lemonade and an additional $1.00 for flavor and they won't let you refill the classic lemonade without a charge? Came here with some friends on their recommendation and was so engrossed with catching up that I totally forgot to take pics. It was a bit of a wait but not terrible and the staff were accommodating of our rather large stroller. In general, the staff were really attentive and it really had that small town vibe. I will say though that I completely went out of left field here and had two cinnamon rolls that I split for breakfast with my friend because these suckers were huge and looked really good! My family's first business was a cinnamon roll bakery so when I saw these and that they were famous for them, I had to try. My partner had the garden salad with their house special soup, which was some kind of pumpkin soup which were both delicious, my kids ended up sharing their granola and my friends partner had one of their scrambled. For my friend and I, we split the pumpkin cinnamon (seasonal) roll and the maple walnut one (my family used to make Carmel pecan and called them sticky buns) and my favorite pieces were always the corners and they let us get them without flinching when I ordered them! They had a great consistency and no lacking in either frosting with pumpkin flavor or in walnuts. It was nice to see them incorporate pumpkin into both the dough as well as the frosting. read more
