Today, I came to get my long hair cut to medium size in my opinion and dye it to a different color. I love the attention that my hairstyle gave and help me choose a color that will not make a impact to my life. I got my hair wash, blow-dry, cut, dye ($80 because my hair was considered long hair), hair wash and blow dry for $115. I like how the top part of my hair looks like put the rest of my hair I don't really see the difference. I hope this temporary and I will soon see the difference, I didn't want to say anything just yet because they were closed already and I want to see my hair in the sun. Hopefully I don't need to ask for them to fix it because I don't like people messing up my hair (I'm a stickler with this). I have had only one hairstylist for 15yrs & my hair has always been undamageded and smooth. Update: My hair does not have the results I paid for $125 dollar, I forgot to mention that I was charged a $10 card fee after my $115 total. This place is good for hair cuts BUT NOT FOR HAIR COLOR especially if you have black hair. I feel devastated that my hair is no where near the color I wanted. Came to Flushing for a wedding and after the long 6 hour car ride from VA, my hair needed HELP. She was not cute lemme tell you. The wedding was starting soon and in a frantic I walked into the first nice looking salon I saw in this mall. The store was bright, clean, and I was immediately greeted. I asked for a quote on a wash, cut, and blow out and was told $28! Tbh I was expecting a lot more Bc my hair is down to my hips! They sat me down right away at the hair wash station and went to work. The young lady who washed my hair gave me an amazing scalp massage and thoroughly cleaned from root to ends. Afterwards, I was brought to a chair where they struggled but did their absolute best to brush my super long tangled hair. I really appreciate that they were very patient and made sure to brush carefully to not rip my already damaged hair. Sometimes at other salons, the dresser would get impatient and frustrated and start tearing through my hair. Here, they were very nice and I was handed off to a young man who finished my blow out and asked how I wanted my hair cut. Thankfully, he spoke English fluently and I was able to express how I wanted my hair cut. He expertly trimmed off my ratchet ass split ends and the result was a perfectly even and smoothly curved hair tip line. Afterwards, he offered to curl my hair as it would look great for my thin hair type! I appreciate stylists who really look out for their clients and do their best to suggest the best options depending on your hair type and face shape! The end result was absolutely beautiful and I loved how my hair looked and felt! I totally needed that pick me up and was so thankful that this salon delivered! If I'm ever in Flushing again I'd definitely come back here for all my hair needs! read more

I have to shout out to this little hat guy(feel bad that we forgot his name), he has done such a amazing job with my husband's hair. The result came out exactly as my husband wanted, meanwhile customized to his own look. Besides doing a perfect job, this hair stylist is so humble. He Only charged 25 dollars for this hair. I'm not saying other fancy hair stylists cannot get the same result, however, this hair in the city worths at least 100 dollars. And I'm not even including the tip and tax yet. All in all, I will definitely go back for my own hair and will suggest this hair stylist to anyone I know!! read more

I just can't believe a review hasn't been written about this place yet. I have been a loyal customer of Chris' since 2007. Back then, he was working at another salon in Flushing. You can tell he was the best because every customer that walked in asked for Chris and would wait hours for their turn even though other stylists were free. There came a time when I walked by the salon and no longer saw Chris working there. The salon was significantly more empty. I wasn't sure what to do with myself when my mop needed a good cut. Thankfully, one day when I was strolling through the New World Mall, I saw Chris - he had opened his own hair salon with another stylist from the old salon. I definitely recommend Chris. I've brought several of my friends to experience his magic and they all loved what he did. He's not the kind of stylist that just does what you say. He'll actually tell you if what you want will look good and give you other suggestions. I mean, that's what you really want in a stylist right? I have been coming here for a whole because apparently if you purchase their gift card for $688, you get 40% off their services when you do them. I guess that should be my cue to tell me that it was a bad idea from the beginning huh? Well, it didn't really tip me off because most other salons I. The area has almost the same offers. I guess you can call me cheap, but a $80 hair dye doesn't seem too cheap in an area like this. Please note the first time I came here to dye my hair, I had virgin hair that I had been saving for the past 5 years, untouched and virgin. 1. First time I came here I asked for a Amber light brown, much like the honey color on LV bags after they've been oxidized. The result? Look at my picture, they gave me a dark brown color. And when I complained, he told me "this color looks better on you anyway." The other color does not suit you instead of apologizing and owning up to their mistake. I walked out, thinking it was the end of the day and they were rushing a bit... Or maybe I didn't express myself clearly. 2. Second time I came here, I was greeted by owner Chris. Nice guy I guess, didn't admit to his employees mistake last time and blamed my hair for being far too "thin" they got the color right this time and everything was perfect. He was real nice with making small talk and I left with the color I wanted along with a happy mood. 3. Third time back, although I asked for Chris, he came over looked at me and then handed me to a guy I've never seen before. Young Taiwanese boy with blue hair. I thought, he'll do great with my roots since his hair looks amazing. He small talked and I left perfectly happy till I went home and noticed there is 3 different colors in my hair!!!!!!!! I did not ask for a ombré or s strip effect in my hair! I took s picture and decided to show them for the next time I go. I was furious but understood that they were human and that everyone makes mistakes. 4. Fourth time back, told them about the 3 different colors in my hair and once again, no apologies. This time a man named ken greeted me. He is nice and then handed me off to his assistant "summer" who was brushing on my hair. I sat there and waited 1 1/2 hours with dye in my hair. They told me they couldn't just touch up roots this time, they wanted to dye the whole head so that the color will be consistent. Although I came here not expecting to pay this much, I agreed and here I am. They just finished rinsing my hair and dried it. Please take a look at the last picture where there are 4 colors on my hair! 4 colors!!!!!!!!! It looks awfully terrible!!!!!!!!!! Their solution to this? Is to put another layer of dye in my hair. Within 6 months, they dyed my hair 5 times and each time is worse than the next. On top of that, no apologies and no offer to treat my hair. My hair is now frizzy, and has split ends with white dots. The middle of some of my hair is broken.... Please help yourself and not go here. They will never take responsibility for their actions when they mess up your hair and will only be passive to blame you for your hair type or thickness. read more

After going to Chris for years and years I've come to realize his "hair fame" has gone to his head. I booked my appointment personally with him over the phone and agreed upon a time (1130am, which apparently is 30 minutes too early for him). He has my cell phone number and no update that he's running late. After waiting for almost half an hour with 1 update that he's still on the way. I'm no expert in owning and running a business but if you're the owner, don't you think you should keep agreed upon appointments with long standing customers? Obviously not. You're good but not good enough to waste a Saturday on. I will never go back to your salon and I will never recommend you to anyone. Consider a long standing client lost. read more

The salon is conveniently located in new world mall on the second floor to the left of the ascending escalator. My decision to give this place a try was completely on a whim. A wash and cut was $30. The 10 min wait wasn't too bad. The lady who washed my hair was friendly and did a thorough job. After reading the previous yelp reviews, I wanted Chris or ken to cut my hair but both of them are off Mondays ! I ended up with Kenny who I was randomly paired with. At first, he kept saying how dry the ends of my hair was. Almost all chinese places I've been to try to sell customers the conditioning package which not only is obvious but annoying. I told him I was 100% fine with my dry hair and he let it go. The hair cuts exceeded my expectations significantly given the lack of information on Kenny and the salon in general on Yelp. Kenny was very precise with my hair and treated each strand with care. I was extremely impressed with the end result ! He even offered to curl the ends of my hair for me, which came out beautifully. I would gladly return to Kenny in the future ! I am very happy I finally found a hair salon which meets my expectations. On that note, highly recommend making an appointment before visiting. Have only gotten a trim from Kenny and a wash/blow dry by the tall young woman with the really cool blond pixie cut. DO NOT recommend. I wish I could give ZERO star. I came here for a haircut just for its convenience, as I need to do grocery shopping downstairs in JMart. And I believe most people come here for the same reason. They charge you based on the hair length: $25 for short, $30 for med, and $35 for long. The cashier (female) asked my stylist (male) if mine is med-length (since my hair only hits the shoulder), he winked at her, and then she told me my hair is long (WTF??!). The guy took only abt 6-7 mins to cut my hair and the way he cut was very old-fashioned. Then he took 15 mins to blow-dry my hair. Lesson learned: ppl who are bad at cutting hair would spend more time blowing than cutting, since blowing hair would give you a nice look temporarily, you will only be able to tell how bad the hair cut is the next morning. He even explicitly asked for 15% tip. Seriously, how dare you ask for that much tip given the amount of efforts you made? He is the least professional stylist I ever met. He is thin, middle-aged, black hair, no glasses, do yourself a favor and avoid him. I should have chosen a Japanese salon in Manhattan, they are expensive but they pay close attentions to details. You might get some luck if you go to the middle-aged Cantonese guy with glasses. He seemed to be pretty much booked (according to other reviews, he might be Chris). The only star gives to the hair designer, he seems OK, at least average. Don't buy their membership, they simply mark up the price and then offer you a discount. For the same or even cheaper actual price, you can go to any other salon without purchasing a prepaid card. First thing I noticed, it was definitely the most popular hair salon in New World Mall. It was packed with people so I had to wait about an hour and a half. But I was looking forward to an awesome new cut so I booked the appointment. I had read that Chris worked magic so and I thought that I was gonna get him but I ended up with another male hairstylist who Im guessing is not him. He did not speak English so I was kinda disappointed that communication did not go so smoothly. Especially bc my chinese is limited so I could not express what I wanted well. I resorted to hand gestures and kinda just answered yes and no when he asked for length confirmation. Overall it was a really simple cut, He took literally like 1.5 min to cut the bangs, which came out different from what I had in mind. Overall quality was good I guess but communication not great. GOOD HAIRCUT, FRIENDLY/PROFESSIONAL STYLIST I got a haircut a few weeks ago from here by Ben, and received a lot of compliments afterwards. For an Asian girl, I have some wavy/frizzy hair! Most of the Asian hair cutters just want to thin out your haircut when it looks poofy, but that just makes it worse. Also, they never seem to listen to your opinions, and just do whatever they want with YOUR hair! Fortunately, this place has stylists that would actually listen to what you want, and give you helpful suggestions instead of just chopping everything off. Ben was my stylist, and he was meticulous with my hair. He did (almost everything I asked for), and threw in some helpful suggestions (after all, he is the pro!). After he cut my hair, he even straightened it for me. I was very happy with the result. I would definitely come back here again and I recommend Ben to anyone who's iffy about trying out a new hair place! The place is easy to find, on the second floor of the New World Mall, on Main St. Flushing. Maybe after getting your hair done, you can go downstairs and grab a bubble tea? :) read more

I could give them a zero star. The guy with a mole on his nose did my hair. I said just trim the ends and just layer a little bit on the sides. I didn't want my hair short. He chopped the inner layer of my hair. He layered the inner part. He made my hair so thin. As thin as his body. I was not really happy about it. I was trying to grow out my hair. I just wanted to trim the ends. I shouldn't have given him a tip. I guess, for all non-Chinese speaking shouldn't come here they barely speak English. Grrr read more

I haven't been to chris to cut my hair in about 2 years, mainly because I moved to a different state and I have yet to find someone who can cut my hair like chris does. He has been cutting my hair for over 10 years and every time it is straight perfection, whether i want a trim or a completely new do. He knows hair and takes great pride in it, as I'm extremely happy that he branched out on his own and opened his own salon. Went for my haircut today. Did not know any of the barbers there and they picked a random one for me. Firstly I felt ok as I thought the barbers over there should at the same level of expertise. However here came the tragedy. The barker they assigned to me seemed to only know how to blow dry the hair. He was so unprofessional : blow dry my hair first cut my frame second and then he just started cutting the edge of my hair with all of my hair down. (Normally barbers would hang my hair by layers and cut by each layer and blow dry my hair when finishes cutting) He did his job within 20 minutes. Very poor job. No layers at all. I can do my hair at home by myself. And I need to pay 35 plus tips for this work! Funny thing was he grabbed the bill, took me to the cashier and just stood there waiting for his tips. Did not worth it at all. Do not recommend this place unless u know the barber who can do a good job there. read more

As many people mentioned, Chris and Jay use to work at another hair salon and then they opened up their own hair salon. I been getting my haircut with Chris for about 6 years, I stop going to him for the past year or so because I feel like he doesn't take the time to cut my hair. I feel that he knows I am a long time customer and I will keep going back to him. I been going somewhere else for my hair cut and I been much happier. I haven't found a place that dyes hair and knows which color will match me better than this hair salon. Therefore, I still come here to get my hair dyed. Usually I would tell Chris which color I want, and he would suggest which color looks best on me and I would pick one. I also don't love going here because Chris tends to be pushy and always tries to over sell his products. I feel that is kind of annoying. I have been getting my hair cut by chris for over ten years! He first started city in my hair at a previous salon and I was still in junior high I think. He is the only person I would trust cutting my hair and I have since introduced my sister and friends to him. While he is always busy at the salon he does take his time cutting my hair even though its for the most part always the same cut. We always have a good laugh just talking about our everyday lives.
