I do not like to give negative feedback, but it is hard not to give this salon and it's owner a non-perfect rating. I will be as honest and transparent as possible along with pictures and details. On Saturday, December 31st, 2018 at 9:40am, my girlfriend had an appointment to get her hair bleached. She has been doing this for years and its nothing new. She also follows all the proper procedures to take care of her hair so that it won't get damaged and won't have any future problems. We have tons of pictures together and her hair is always perfect, right up until she visited this salon. I was waiting at the coffee shop next door, when at 1:50pm (so 4 hours 10 minutes from her appointment), she comes in with a fist of her hair and tears in her eyes. Her hair was falling out but she didn't know what to do. She wanted to complain but too scared of the workers and she also didn't want to create a scene in the salon where there were also other clients getting worked on. I've never seen anything like this before, she wanted to give this salon a try as her friend also got her hair dyed ($60) and said the price was fair and they did a great job. My girlfriend on the other hand, was getting bleach work done but they charged her $350. She didn't think it would cost that much so she went with $250 and said she'd come back to pay the rest but that's still outrageous! They obviously did something wrong, either used way too harsh of a product or leave the bleach in for over the amount of time instructed by product details. At this point, we went to grab late lunch (2:43PM) and her hair was still falling out and now her scalp was starting to burn. She asked me to take a look at her scalp and it was red. I took her back home so she can take a closer look and also change into something else since we already had plans for the night. She came back out with the sweater she was wearing and somehow the salon got bleach all over the back of the neck of the sweater! She was wearing 2 gowns around her neck during the procedure! How did they even manage that? It's getting late, we discussed the different options and decided to go the civil route and go back to see if we can come up with a solution for this mess, as it may not be worth filing a claim at court until after we see a dermatologist. So we went back with her mother to come up with a peaceful resolution (6:50PM). Instead, the owner just ripped into both her and her mother saying that there are "absolutely no refunds" and that we should all understand the risk there is to constantly dying her hair. She rejected the idea of a refund and instead to come back tomorrow and they'll provide a treatment service. Somehow, we were able to get a sample packet of the bleach product they used on her hair and scalp so we can take it to a doctor. So, night and holiday plans ruined, go home feeling at a loss and her having to try and get some rest while her hair is still constantly falling out. Next morning, Sunday December 30, 2018, she wakes up to her pillow with more of her hair having fallen off. She goes back with her bleached sweater and a clump of her hair to the salon. The owner and worker just brushes it off and thinks nothing of it as they think they are already providing her enough of a service to accommodate for the problem that they created. I really don't know what the treatment did as her hair is still falling out to this day, December 31st, 2018, but considering it's during a holiday period we have yet to book a dermatologist or doctor to take a look at her scalp yet, I also think everyone will agree that hair loss is a very serious and no laughing matter. I will try and update this review as we see fit.

This is the worst salon experience ever. I went to get my hair bleached and instead my scalp was burned and my hair is falling out! I will never come back here, this place is not recommended!!!

    Haircut + perm

Hangji did an amazing job on my hair today. Made an appointment for Saturday morning at 10am, got a haircut and a perm, and was able to walk out the salon before 1pm! She was so efficient, fast, and professional. The price was reasonable. She has a good sense of styling! I had a few pictures of different haircuts when I walked in. She was able to suggest what would look the best on me and did a phenomenal job carrying out the style. As of today, I've found a salon I would frequent for my hair :)

Excellent haircut every time! Have been a regular customer for years. They also take COVID precautions, so feels very safe.

I had trouble find out what style will suit me. She helped me fix up my hair and told me what to do to make it better

I told him I wanted to go a bit cooler than my natural brown because I had recently done a color analysis and found out I'm a "cool winter". He immediately understood and recommended the color for me. After showing him some pics of what I wanted for my haircut, he also made appropriate recommendations. He even asked if I had any restrictions for work and if I go to the gym and need to tie my hair up. It was so lovely to talk to Jason throughout the appointment (even with my elementary Mandarin skills ) Jason's partner was also very attentive while washing and coloring my hair. The booking process was very seamless and the salon texted me to adjust my appointment. The salon itself is so nice and clean, very relaxing to be in. I'll definitely become a regular here!

My sisters and mom have been coming pretty regularly and are happy with their haircuts so I swung by to get a simple wash & cut. I walked in on a week day around 12:30-1 pm or so, without making a prior appointment. I mentioned that I had to be at a doctor's appointment by 2pm, would it be possible for them to fit me in for a haircut? They said it was doable. They were nice and thorough with washing my hair and I ended up having my hair cut by Kenny. My Mandarin Chinese is just so-so and maybe because of that they thought I could speak Cantonese haha (I do not). They offered to speak to me in English but I was like no no, let me use my mediocre Mandarin but we were able to communicate just fine lol. I was unable to judge how well they can communicate in English, for anyone who might not speak Mandarin. On that note, I'd recommend coming prepared with reference pictures! My hair length was to my chest, like maybe mid chest length and very thick. I asked for my hair to be cut about shoulder length and every time I ask this at any salon, hair stylists are always like, are you sure you want to chop off that much at once? So I conceded and had it cut a bit below shoulder length so that I could still tie my hair up in a tiny ponytail. In addition to the cut, I asked for my hair to be thinned quite a bit (imagine Hagrid level of hair, I kid) as well as a slight side bang. Just in case, I came prepared with reference pictures and showed Kenny my reference pics along with my requests before he started cutting. Kenny was pretty efficient in cutting & even styled my hair nicely before the time I had to leave by. I've paid much more elsewhere for about the same simple haircut so the prices at Hair 101 are very fair. I think my sisters usually pay base price $30-35 for a wash & cut but my base wash & cut price was $40. It could be due to the thickness & length of my hair (my sisters have thinner hair) or perhaps the person cutting my hair? My sisters said they usually have their hair cut by a lady named Even at the salon & are happy with her cutting skills as well. There's a bathroom down the hall that you can ask for the bathroom key at the desk. I paid in cash & was on my merry way in time for my appointment. Although I did ask Kenny about how busy it usually is and he mentioned that they tend to get a lot busier in the afternoons so I must have gotten lucky right before a busy period. If you're worried about waiting, I'd say make an appointment ahead of time if coming at a busy time. Overall I'm pretty happy with how my hair turned out and the price of my service, I rec! The salon is on Main Street, closer to Northern Blvd and I think on the 2nd floor.
