And he was on board with our dog being a very important part of our day and how we wanted him to be a focus for pictures as well. Jimmy did an initial consult by phone, met with us over coffee to get comfortable and really go over what we were looking for, and did a pre-shoot with us so we could be familiar with his style and so our dog could be comfortable as well. He went above and beyond for us. On the day we had some difficulty with our venue and we loved and appreciated how he handled everything and took charge. We felt that he was really prioritizing us on our day and helping me not have to deal with anything additional stress-wise. We have only gotten our sneak peeks and we love them so much already. I actually went to his "mustache party" a few weeks back to celebrate the opening of his current art show. Well, actually, we ended up walking in there to meet friend for drinks and so happened to stumble upon the shindig. Can't remember the name of theme but it was three bodies of work I believe. Being a photographer myself, I took my visiting friend from Kentucky (who is also a shutter bug) to check out John's work a few weeks later. I knew he would appreciate it as much as I did. So we walk into Manifest and there's some weirdo sitting in the front with a girl, spazzing on the sofa. Looked like he was going to foam at the mouth or something. Everyone at the bar was laughing at my friend and I because we probably had stupid looks on our faces watching this guy's antics. As my friend and I were discussing our favorite images and such, I noticed the "spazz" in front was chiming into our conversation. I then realized it wasn't a weirdo after all but John Hook himself hosting his exhibit. I walked over to him to introduce myself and the best part is, he already knew who I was - or well, not by name but he did recognize me from the Honolulu music scene. He said he saw my band at Fresh Cafe a month or so back and said he even liked us. I remember being caught off guard by this. In fact, I was speechless. This had made my night. John Hook, my friend and I then continued to talk about his works on the wall. He even pointed out a bunch that were actually naked people with animal slides projected on their bodies. He said, "If you look close enough, you'll see nipple!" That Hook and his sense of humor, huh? Good times, great guy and even better photography. When searching for our wedding photographer, we narrowed it down to three or so people and asked for opinions from our parents, siblings and some friends, some of which are photographers and / or artists themselves. I already knew Chris was my pick but we were curious what others thought. I believe he was picked by everyone so hands down, we knew who we wanted. Just check out his portfolio and his work speaks for itself. He is super easy to get along with, he knows what he's doing, had a great second shooter, Hannah, and has an amazing presence, even though sometimes you don't even notice he is there capturing great memories. We were planning a Hawaii wedding from the mainland, which can be difficult at times. Initial emails were answered quickly, we had no issues trying to get in touch with him whenever we wanted to. And the first time speaking with him, it sort of felt like we were chatting with someone we already knew. There is just a level of comfort and confidence that he has which can put any stressed out couple at ease. Our wedding was in October 2019 and the day started out raining off and on. He has a great, creative eye and his demeanor is relaxed and comfortable so you can be yourself. What we really liked about Chris was that he gave really awesome directions! I don't mean directions to the location but I mean directions on how to pose, where to look and such. This is really hard to find sometimes in photographers but it makes all the difference in the world. It can make a good image, great or a great image not so great. Chris was able to guide us every step as we are no professional models so we needed a loooot of directions and he did so in a way that was comfortable and easy for us. When we received the gallery, we were thrilled with how they turned out! Clean, modern, and beautiful. He also took a great number of photos which is always nice because you can really pick and choose your favorites. Some photographers will only give you such a limited amount of images. Oh and another thing we really appreciated was his quick turnaround time. It was nice to have the images so quickly. I would not hesitate to book with Chris again. He is definitely a talented gem!
