Can't say enough good things about this sweet place! They have a great selection of coffees, many fresh baked goodies, and are one of the very few places that serve custard here! They also have a small lunch menu that I'll have to go back to try! I highly recommend their lattes and cappuccinos, and their berry smoothie was also incredible. They also have a featured drink where you can get a picture printed on the foam on your drink!?! So cool! Great place to sit and relax with family or friends & quiet place to get work done. They also have a conference room available to book. Their mission is incredible, and I'm so thankful to have them here in my hometown.

This is a fun surprise to visit, once I figured out where it was. It is hidden in an industrial looking area and so glad I found it. If traveling on the Roanoke River Greenway, hop off at the 9th Street bridge, cross the bridge and just ahead on your right is just what is needed to cool off, hydrate and get caffeinated on your long run or ride. The coffee is roasted fresh there, they can even grind the whole beans. The smell makes you want a cup of coffee as soon as you go in. The custard is nice and creamy with subtle yet full flavor. The waffle cones are soft yet crisp and not the brittle ones that feel like shards cutting your lips as some can. The Gobs is quite the commitment, but a tasty one and a bonus is that you get to pick the cookie and ice cream flavor. It's always fun to create your own treat.

It had been a lifelong dream of a team of three: Sadie Smith, Charlie Claus, and Ryan Patton, to open a Coffee Shop where everyone in the community is welcome to relax, chat, hang out, and do the things they enjoy doing while they drink a cup of coffee or tea with a pastry from Bread Craft. This morning I went to visit their Coffee Shop and see first hand their dream come true. It was early in the morning yet the owners were there to personaly greet me and serve me my Coffee. You could see from the sparkle in their eyes how proud they were of working hard to make their special dream materialize. And work hard they did because all the seating areas and stations were made by them and this gives the place a special character. I ordered a Cafe Latte and my friend ordered a drip. Their modern coffee machine made a wonderful coffee and they finished off by making a design on top of the coffee with the cream. Since it was very early the pastries had not yet arrived but I enjoyed talking with the owners about their new business, looking around at their creation, and enjoying the special cup of coffee they made me. I highly recommend this new Coffee House to the entire community as a place to come to wind down, be creative, meet and make new friends, and while at it enjoy a cup a coffee in a relaxed and comfortable environment where everyone is welcomed to hangout.

Their house chai wasn't interesting subtle spice mix, and was available with alternative milks. The star of the show, though was a vegan peach crumble coffee cake, which was about as good as you could possibly imagine such a thing in being. It had a moistness and texture that you would never think would come with a vegan baked good and every bite delivered a delectable flavor mix. Unfortunately, a toasted bagel with butter had the butter on the side, and thus by the time I ate my bagel it was cold and didn't butter the way I wanted it to. I arrived to have breakfast on an early morning of the most wonderful time of the year and after having won the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award a week earlier, was looking forward to reviewing this very unique Coffee Shop, Eatery, and more. First of all I was extremely impressed with the interior design of the Coffee Shop. It is by far the most beautifully designed Coffee Shop that I have evered visited. The attention to detail was evident even before one entered the place and even more after. It was evident in the design and quality materials used to create and house this Coffee Shop and more. I was very impressed with all the gift items exhibited there as well, such as cute stuffed animals, tumblers, and fine crystal items, to name a few. Second of all I was very impressed by the nice variety of coffees, other drink items, and exquisite foods, made available not only on the menu, but also inside beautiful display cases, elegantly labeled by name. And last but not least, I was extremely impressed by the extraordinary customer service provided by the young lady barista behind the counter, who was very knowledgeable about the Coffee Shop and all its available items. I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and a large Caffè Mocha. They both were wonderfully prepared and tasted amazingly delicious. I enjoyed them seated at the white marble counter facing the Christmas trees that decorate the Hotel during this Special time of the year. A few years ago I used to frequent this Coffee Shop often and enjoy drinking my Caffè Mochas…read more together with some hot breakfast sandwiches there. As a matter of fact my main Yelp profile picture was taken there in that Coffee Shop. But during covid they put a hold on the hot breakfasts and only served hot coffee, tea, muffins, danishes, and cinnamon rolls. So I decided to return to the place to see how it was doing, see what had changed, have a cup of coffee and breakfast there, and write a review. I arrived early in the morning at around 7:00am, the time the Downtown Coffee Shop opens. A young man behind the counter greeted me and asked me if I knew what I wanted to order as soon as I arrived. I asked him if they now had hot breakfasts again like in the time before covid. But he told me that in this store in particular they had discontinued the hot breakfasts. So I ordered a Caffè Mocha and a cinnamon roll. As I waited for the coffee to be made and served I walked around the store and found that the area for community announcements and for people to leave their business cards was still there as well as some of the complimentary magazines, but not all they use to have. I also found that the glass built into the wall display case they used to have full of t-shirts, coffee mugs and tumblers was completely empty, to the point of looking as it had been abandoned. Also, the wall where they used to exhibit for sale artworks of artists members of our community no longer was full. At this time my Coffee and cinnamon rolls were ready, so I took them from the counter. Heated the cinnamon roll in the microwave and had my breakfast. The coffee was as good as always and the cinnamon roll was fine. Later I asked the barista about what I earlier had found and he just confirmed the fact and told me that in the other of their stores they did have everything that was missing in this store, which to me now looked like one of those abandoned old Malls after a new one just opened in town. I wondered and asked myself: How could a local chain such as Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea have abandoned their Downtown Roanoke store in this way? I know there is competition, but how can it compete with nothing creative to do so. This store is very significant to the Downtown area, to the Roanoke community, and to the tourist that frequent the area. So rather than give it a 3 rating, I will give it a 4, and give you the benefit of the doubt, with the hope that after the Management of the Mill Mountain Coffee Shop chain reads my review they put their act together and do what is needed to bring the Star to this Mill Mountain Coffee Shop again. For the purpose of my reviews is not to point out the negative, but to give constructive criticism so that both the store can improve and the community can benefit by having a quality place in which to enjoy a quality product in a relaxing and beautiful environment. A business should not run just to survive but to grow so that both the community and the owners profit from it. The famous Q2. Quality will bring Quantity. Come on, I believe in you. Let's do what is needed so next time not only will you have earned a 5 Star review in paper but also in the eyes of the community of the great Star City of Roanoke in the Commonwealth of Virginia!

I have truly enjoyed dining in each and every one of them. But Bread Craft, located in the Star City of Roanoke, is in a class of its own. After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Bread Craft Bakery, located in Downtown Roanoke, is the perfect example of one of them. Bread Craft is a premier, artisan European-style bakery established in 2006 by owner Alex Eliades, who besides having a passion for baking, has over 25 years of baking experience, and leads the bakery focusing on traditional slow-fermentation techniques. The bakery is known for its high-quality, scratch-made sourdough, pastries, and Croissants. It evolved from a wholesale operation into a popular 6,000 square foot café on Church Avenue, also supplying local restaurants. The bakery specializes in Franch and German-style baking, utilizing sourdough as a natural leavener. It servers breakfast and lunch items, including sandwiches, salads, and some creative breakfast egg entrées. They are open Wednesdays through Sundays from 8:00AM - 2:00PM and are well known for running out of items before the end of the day. For this review I visited the Bakery / Café for breakfast on two consecutive Wednesdays. The first Wednesday I arrived too late to be able to have their Chorizo & Eggs Cocotte from their Breakfast menu. Breakfast is only served until noon, and I found out about this on that day. So instead I had a Cheese Danish and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Both items were delicious. On the second Wednesday I arrived much earlier for breakfast. Luckily, right before a whole rush of customers arriving to place Take-out orders. As soon as I walked inside I immediately felt comfortable with its clean and contemporary architectural design and decor, and an exposed red brick wall that gave it a warm ambiance. One can see that the owner spent a substantial amount in renovating the place when they moved here, and that they took good care of it, because it looked as if it had just opened for the very first time yesterday. While I was looking over all the baked items they had, I received a friendly greeting and warm welcome from a lady behind the counter who seemed to be the manager and took my order. To start I ordered a Chorizo Quiche which happened to be the Quiche of the day, and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Then since I was planning to turn this into a Brunch, for my main entrée I ordered their Chorizo Cocotte from the Breakfast menu. And for dessert I had a Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant that was simply irresistible. Everything tasted amazingly delicious, especially since I love Chorizo. The Quiche had an amazing crust with the eggs inside cooked with the perfect amount of chorizo. The Chorizo Cocotte was served in an elongated bowl with two poached eggs over Spanish sausage, accompanied by three slices of freshly made Baguette. And if all this wasn't enough, the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant was the perfect ending dessert to this fabulous put together Brunch. Oh and the coffee was the best of the best. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. What an outstanding dining experience I just had at Bread Craft. Wonderful ambiance, amazing food, and extraordinary customer service. I highly recommend this Bakery/Café whenever you're in the area.
