I read the last review and was hesitant to come here but like all places I wanted to give it a chance. Drove up the road and when we pulled up, i instantly fell in love with the building, patio and countryside view. When we walked in, the staff was extra friendly. There were no charge for the tastings. I basically tried the whole list except for the sweet wines (I'm more dry reds). I ended up purchasing 2 dry reds and two whites. I didn't feel rushed with the tasting. She was very knowledgable and passionate. The staff was even helpful on what to do in the area and visiting the hot/coolest spots. The only con was that there was an outside patio and could not purchase a glass of wine to enjoy it outdoor or even inside the building. Overall a great experience a must visit if in the area.

I've been to their lavender festival twice. It is always held in June and they have various other events throughout the year which look fun. The venue looks perfect for a rustic wedding and their grounds are very pretty. Their lavender wine is an all time favorite of mine. It's the perfect combination of sweet and sparkling. If you are looking for something to do this place would make I nice pit stop to taste test some of their wines. They also have a distillery across the street if you would like to try something stronger.

I first became acquainted with Christian Klay during one of Trax Farm's wine festivals. I fell in love with their wine and knew I wanted to take a little road trip to visit the winery and see what else they had to offer. Fast forward to the present. My boyfriend and I just came back from visiting their winery and we had a nice time. We purchased their Groupon (2 admissions for $25) which included a hayride, winery tour, wine tasting, light appetizers and wine glasses. The hayride was really just a short trip to the vineyard. The tour guide (who also was the man in charge of pretty much doing everything when it comes to making the wine) explained the history of the grounds and went into detail about the process of what he does. It lasted about 30-45 minutes before he took us back to the winery and showed us the equipment to actually make the wine. He was very charming and old school. He had a very blue collar feel to him which makes me love their wine even more. It's great knowing that they haven't sold themselves or went on a more commercial route. Everything is done right in their storage room by hand. It's awesome knowing each bottle is handled personally, giving it a more intimate feel (is that even the right word? You get the point!). After the tour, we all sat down and tried about eight different wines ranging from sweet to dry. Our favorite included the Stone House Red and Blanc de Lafayette. He explained each wine in depth and also answered any questions. After the tasting, a chef from a nearby restaurant prepared some light appetizers for our enjoyment. The spread included Cesar Salad, pita bread (dipped in apple butter and topped with Swiss cheese and an edible flower), chili, and chips/dip/salsa. Everything was very good. We loved the chili! After we decided to look in the gift shop and make some purchases. They also allow you to try as many other flavors of wine as you like. We tried the Spiced Apple and WOW! Amazing. I've tried many apple wines before but this by far was the best. CK is also known for their Lavender Wine. It's hard to explain the taste because it's something like no other. It's extremely rare to find. It's very good, but I can only do a glass of it. When all was said and done, we bought three bottles of the two listed above from the tasting and an apple! A huge bravo to the staff for being so friendly and accommodating. I wish I got her name, but the blond woman who helped out with our tastings was great. She even offered my boyfriend and I quick tastings before out hayride started! I must say, after reading some of the negative reviews on here (especially the one regarding the same-sex couple), I was a bit apprehensive. However, in no way did I feel my business wasn't appreciated.

We used the as our wedding venue. The place is absolutely beautiful and the staff is amazing. We highly recommend them to everyone. We couldn't have asked for a better coordinated day and it wouldn't have been possible without them

I recently had my baby shower here and highly recommend renting the barn for an event! Scott was beyond accommodating and easy to work with. The bartenders at my event were so polite and friendly. They allowed us to make the barn our own and it's a day we will never forget. The barn is gorgeous on the inside with a bar area and newly renovated restrooms. Scott even got a hold of me before the event to show me pics of the set up, double check the amount of tables needed, and see what backlight color I would like for the shower. I have NOTHING bad to say about having an event here. Plus, I know their wine is delicious from my pre-pregnancy days!

My friend had her wedding here this past weekend and it was beautiful. I would definitely recommend having events here it is a wonderful place the barn is a perfect reception area. They all ready have the chairs and tables in the barn for you. She had the ceremony on a hill over looking the vineyard and the guest took hay rides to the reception area. The wine is also delicious! I've been here to taste the wine as well and the summit mist is my favorite.

Not as much of a selection as I am used to seeing at most wineries. Complementary samples with a large patio to sip some of your purchases! A little pricier than some other wineries with average of $15 per bottle which is still reasonable! They seemed to have more dry wines when I was there by it also seems like their selection varies throughout the year. Delicious sparkling wines as well! Distillery across the street. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Check it out!

Absolutely wonderful winery and grounds. Everyone including the vendors at their Lavender festival were polite and helpful. Bev, our pourer was knowledgeable about the stock and made good suggestions. I loved the sparkling Lavender mist and their Spiced Apple in a red bottle. I look forward to going back.

I first came here a few years ago and really liked the canned cocktails and peach pie moonshine. Everywhere has apple pie moonshine (this place does, too), but not everywhere has peach pie! It makes a great cocktail with some lemonade and lemon juice to take down the sweetness. My most recent visit was this past weekend. I went into the store with the intention on just grabbing a bottle of moonshine and I ended up trying a pickleback sample (whiskey and pickle moonshine), buying more than I planned and getting to chat with the owner for a while. My mom got a bottle of their blueberry infused vodka and got to try a spiked blueberry lemonade, and I'm looking forward to making some of those at home! We'll definitely stop at Ridge Runner again during our next trip to the Farmington/Ohiopyle area, and maybe next time we'll be lucky enough to have some food outside and some more drinks! Thanks again to Jake for making our visit extra memorable and being kind and welcoming to us.

All that you could do before was sample some of the spirits and or buy a bottle to go. Now they have an entire section built next to the distillery. Nice seats inside. They have a food truck that arrived? They have cocktails in place and all of the different samples available. I had the old fashioned with the honey infused bourbon based whiskey. It was incredible with a dried up orange. We sample the bourbon based whiskey, honey, and a few more including a clear white rum that tasted like something I've had from Colorado back in October. It sells a variety of dry and sweet wines (e.g., red, white, rose, sparkling, and cider), cocktails, mocktails, and beers. Some vineyards are on the grounds as are many barrels and bottles of wines. The restaurant has both indoor seating and seasonal outdoor seating in lakeside cabanas and winter igloos. It is open for brunch/lunch and dinner. It is a nice setting for daily dining as well as special events such as weddings, bridal and baby showers, and private parties. Furthermore, the website lists activities such as bingo, painting and candle-making classes, live music with dancing, and more. For my husband and me, I made a reservation for lunch in an igloo. Our igloo was large enough to fit eight people and cost $50 plus foods and drinks. A larger "party dome" fits up to 14 people and has a fee of $75. The temperatures outside were very cold, but our igloo was kept warm by an electric fireplace and a zippered door. Throughout our meal, our waitress provided timely and friendly service. The Bistro menu listed shareables (e.g., pretzel sticks and charcuterie board), several smash burgers, several flatbreads, mains (e.g., fish and chips, cajun chicken pasta, and quinoa bowl), several salads, several handhelds (e.g., turkey melt, veggie wrap, and Italian panini), many sides, and a couple of desserts. Prices were moderate. (The menus for Sunday Brunch and a group Gathering differ.) The waitress first brought our Sweet Wine-Cookie Flight (4.5 stars), which consisted of the following pairs: Diamond Reo with Brown Sugar Pop Tart, Sweet Finley with Chocolate Salted Caramel, Riesling with Cookies and Cream, and Rose Cider with Strawberry Crunch. The wine glasses came in a wooden box, which was slightly too small, so I needed several minutes of time to carefully pull each wine glass out of the box. I, however, did enjoy the sweet flavors of the wines and cookies. Next our waitress brought out our shareable and two mains. The Hummus Plate (4.5 stars) consisted of fresh and tasty hummus, feta, olives, top seedz crackers, tomatoes, cucumbers, green and red peppers, carrots, celery, and tzatziki. My main course was Crab Cakes (4 stars) with a substituted side of salad. Two crab cakes were a decent size of 4 ounces each, but I would have preferred more crab meat. I liked the garlic aioli. My husband's main course was the Cali Burger (4 stars) with a side of fries. In a brioche bun, a beef patty was topped with fontina cheese, applewood-smoked bacon (which he would prefer be crispier), avocado, avocado ranch, lettuce, and pickles (which he commented were nicely crunchy and sweet-sour) (no tomato at his request). The total price for the flight, shareable, two mains, and a soda was $98 plus sales tax and tip (plus the earlier $50 fee for the igloo).

Now, after several…read morereturn visits, I can honestly say it has become one of those places we intentionally build into our Saturday adventures. What keeps bringing us back is not just the wine, although there is certainly plenty to enjoy there. This visit included a flight, a glass of Starlight White, another newer red offering, and the small bites that have become one of my favorite parts of the experience. Fresh bread, cheeses, olives, dipping sauces, hummus, and even a couple of truffles create the kind of simple but thoughtful pairing that encourages you to slow down and stay awhile. What stands out most, though, is the authenticity of the place. During this visit we once again had the opportunity to spend some time with Lee, whose warmth and hospitality seem to reflect everything this winery is about. Nothing feels rushed, overly commercial, or manufactured. It feels genuine. On this particular Saturday, we sat outside overlooking the grounds of Kings Mountain Golf Course, enjoying a break from the routine and watching golfers make their way through the course. There was no special event, no live music, and no grand occasion. It was simply a relaxing afternoon, and somehow that made it even better. There are plenty of wineries where you can have a tasting. There are far fewer places where you leave feeling refreshed, welcomed, and already looking forward to your next visit. Vin de Matrix continues to be one of those places for us, and it remains well worth the drive from Pittsburgh.
