Bella Terra Vineyards is a winery, restaurant, and event venue in the small town of Hunker in Westmoreland County. It sells a variety of dry and sweet wines (e.g., red, white, rose, sparkling, and cider), cocktails, mocktails, and beers. Some vineyards are on the grounds as are many barrels and bottles of wines. The restaurant has both indoor seating and seasonal outdoor seating in lakeside cabanas and winter igloos. It is open for brunch/lunch and dinner. It is a nice setting for daily dining as well as special events such as weddings, bridal and baby showers, and private parties. Furthermore, the website lists activities such as bingo, painting and candle-making classes, live music with dancing, and more. For my husband and me, I made a reservation for lunch in an igloo. Our igloo was large enough to fit eight people and cost $50 plus foods and drinks. A larger "party dome" fits up to 14 people and has a fee of $75. The temperatures outside were very cold, but our igloo was kept warm by an electric fireplace and a zippered door. Throughout our meal, our waitress provided timely and friendly service. The Bistro menu listed shareables (e.g., pretzel sticks and charcuterie board), several smash burgers, several flatbreads, mains (e.g., fish and chips, cajun chicken pasta, and quinoa bowl), several salads, several handhelds (e.g., turkey melt, veggie wrap, and Italian panini), many sides, and a couple of desserts. Prices were moderate. (The menus for Sunday Brunch and a group Gathering differ.) The waitress first brought our Sweet Wine-Cookie Flight (4.5 stars), which consisted of the following pairs: Diamond Reo with Brown Sugar Pop Tart, Sweet Finley with Chocolate Salted Caramel, Riesling with Cookies and Cream, and Rose Cider with Strawberry Crunch. The wine glasses came in a wooden box, which was slightly too small, so I needed several minutes of time to carefully pull each wine glass out of the box. I, however, did enjoy the sweet flavors of the wines and cookies. Next our waitress brought out our shareable and two mains. The Hummus Plate (4.5 stars) consisted of fresh and tasty hummus, feta, olives, top seedz crackers, tomatoes, cucumbers, green and red peppers, carrots, celery, and tzatziki. My main course was Crab Cakes (4 stars) with a substituted side of salad. Two crab cakes were a decent size of 4 ounces each, but I would have preferred more crab meat. I liked the garlic aioli. My husband's main course was the Cali Burger (4 stars) with a side of fries. In a brioche bun, a beef patty was topped with fontina cheese, applewood-smoked bacon (which he would prefer be crispier), avocado, avocado ranch, lettuce, and pickles (which he commented were nicely crunchy and sweet-sour) (no tomato at his request). The total price for the flight, shareable, two mains, and a soda was $98 plus sales tax and tip (plus the earlier $50 fee for the igloo). read more

Great local winery, live music. Celebrated a friend's birthday here, I am not a huge wine drinker but I enjoyed the sangria cocktail and I also tried a glass of wine. Super cute cozy igloo winter wonderland experience! We reserved an igloo for a nice dinner after Thanksgiving and it was a nice relaxing evening after the busy holiday. I went with one of their speciality cocktail and for we shared the following: Bruschetta Spinach dip Chicken flatbread Loved having a private space and we were plenty warm! This is a beautiful spot for a summer evening, and clearly popular with a lot of guests, a private event, and the venue setup for a weekend wedding. And they had a wonderful live band playing, but that's where we flowing review ends. They were woefully understaffed and the food quality really suffered. Your choice is to order via their website and wait over 45 minutes or wait in line for 20 minutes, including to get a refill on a soft drink. Coupled by the fact we had a swarm of a dozen flies attacking our table, we weren't too pleased for the prices they charge. The staff was pleasant, so it's not really on them. But the food was not worth the price to meet the portion size or quality. read more

This was my second time at Bella Terra. The first was for my mother-in-law's 60th. This time we came with another couple. The first experience was a really good one, with good wine and food as well as a large group and live music from Walking Rosie This time we took advantage of happy hour, which was half off drinks and apps. Ordered medium meat and cheese and veggie tray's along with flatbread pizza and veggies flatbread pizza trays, everything was plentiful and tasty. Enjoyed a Sunday brunch with girlfriends. The food was amazing. Not crowded and the waffle cinnamon glaze was worth the trip. The breakfast portion consisted of toast. Bacon. Potato hash. Had my daughters bridal shower there early March: food, drinks, and service were fantastic! i went there in a whim last fall and had fantastic food and wine and it was the first place I thought of when planning the shower. Can' t recommend it enough. Love this place, our new go-to!! read more

This is a really lovely spot to relax and enjoy some good wine and food. They have a full assortment of a menu here and a really lovely patio. They also have a full calendar of musical entertainment happening seemingly nightly! The pretzel sticks were amazing! I was hungry and forgot to take a picture (you know how that goes!). Sunday brunch totally not worth it. I've never been to a brunch where you have to pay extra for coffee, which we did not get ($4.50 each). For the two of us the tab came over $60 not including tip. One Bloody Mary (they just give you a glass with ice and a shot of well vodka and you make your own) with no celery, and a Mimosa. Wonder white bread for toast (no rye, whole wheat, or pastries), greasy home fries, bacon and a passable omelette bar. I did not try the tomato soup, chicken tenders, or Salisbury steak, tho my date said the soup and "steak" were just ok. A joke of a desert bar with vanilla yogurt, sprinkles, maraschino cherries, and chocolate chip cookies. Very disappointing and will not return. read more

If half stars were allowed I'd probably say 3.5 stars. Mostly because it seems like they are having an identity crisis. The place is huge. Two cavernous inside rooms, a patio and during the winter months, heated igloos you can rent out for two hours. I knew it was a winery but didn't expect they also would have ciders, beers and cocktails. They had flights available but said they "don't really offer tastings" which I don't know I've ever encountered at a winery before. I chose a "choose your own" flight for $20. The highlight for me was a cab franc because it is one of my favorites but not a lot of places make it. Choose your own is supposed to allow you to choose ciders and cocktails (it says it right in the description) but the person serving me gave me a bit of a hard time about it. I also decided to order some food. I suppose it is kind of expected in places like this, but I was surprised at how expensive the food options were for what they were and what portions you got. Overall, I think it would be really fun to go back to with a group of friends or for one of their events. read more

A great place to enjoy wine and food year round. The outdoor spaces are beautiful, so the summer and fall seasons here are really my favorite. The indoor spaces are great too though, so it's also a great place to hang out in the winter as well. They also have a great variety of live music. We were visiting family who live near Pittsburgh, and we had pre-ordered the group Charcuterie board and plan to having wine and possibly other food with it. When we got there we had a table reserved for us and ordered a wine flight. While sampling the wine the Charcuterie board came out. It was wonderful and turned out more then we had expected. The home made crackers that came with it are to die for. The staff was very friendly and informative, we took a walk around the venue and will be making a reservation to set outside around the pond in the very near future.​ read more

sunday brunch review! this buffet is awesome! the staff is so friendly (especially the omelet cook, he's the best!!) and the food is so good and flavorful. they have waffles, an omelet station, and several breakfast/ lunch options to chose from. the wine is also so good, we got the cider wine flight and i recommend it! there was also 3 dollar mimosas when we went and they were also super good! the place is super clean and well kept and in a great area. definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're looking for commenting new! read more

we made reservations for 16 ... when we arrived at the winery they put us on the barrel tables with high top chairs. we have people with canes that cannot sit at a table and chairs like that. so were told to sit wherever we wanted... well we moved tables and chairs to accommodate our 16 people.. then all at once a gentleman said that we couldn't move tables and chairs. then after we complained about us setting up our table he finally said leave them alone we could sit at the table. Now if I were the manager or whatever I saw 16 people come into the winery I would make all the accommodations that was needed to make them feel welcome. I really enjoy your winery and food., that is why I suggested to come to your winery . We go to different places once a month for lunch. Other than not trying to accommodate us everyone had a good meal and a very enjoyable afternoon. read more

The wine was good, and when I was there I believe it was an off night for the staff. A tip: if parking in the large lot down below, there are no handrails or lights on the steps. The steps are wide, but I suggest having your phone flashlight ready if there at night. read more

Nice atmosphere with lots of space . We were amazed at how many people turned out on a Wednesday night for trivia! Next time we'll reserve a table. Beverages were diverse and were good. Local beers, ciders, and of course their own wines. Tastings were available to decide which to buy. However, the food at the Bistro could have been better. It was 50/50 good/so so. The good was the two tuna tacos with wasabi and soy. It is served medium rare at best, so if you don't like it that way, ask them to make it well done. But I like it so I was fine with it being a bit on the raw side. Also good was the pretzel with beer cheese dip. French Fries were spot on delicious. A nice sized order. To share. Not so good was the hummus platter with pita chips. The three humuses were tasty, but the chips tasted like they were made with rancid olive oil. They definitely had an off taste! I used French fries to dip because they were so bad. They should've offered veggies to dip instead. Or make the pitas with fresh oil. Also so so was the tossed salad with chicken . The salad itself was fine. For a $4 up charge, you could add chicken to the salad. It was lunch meat! For a $14 salad, it should have been real chicken breast. I think the nicest part of this winery is the space. It is very open, and the building was very nice. It is kind of in the middle of nowhere, and immersed in nature. We stopped here on a mild winter Saturday. They were very busy so we had a bit of a wait getting service and samples but the crew seemed to be moving so it was not for lack of trying. Like most wineries you can sample several before making your decision. None of the wine blew me away. They were okay. The cab was probably my favorite I just didn't think it was worth the higher price tag. We decided to go with their blend the Bella Red. We grabbed the bottle and took a seat to people watch and enjoy some scenery. It was very busy, and I was actually really surprised that they closed at 5pm on a Saturday. The food and wine were great. The grounds were lovely as well. And not far off the main road, so a good place for a quick lunch stop. It seems to be more of a wedding/event venue than a vineyard. The setup for food and drinks were in separate buildings, and employees didn't seem to be inclined to making the process of acquiring either easier for us. The oddest thing was the check-in coupon on Yelp for 50% off a wine flight. The employees had never seen it before, and when she called the owner, the owner also seemed unaware. Weird! I never have a bad thing to say about BTV. This is really one of the best wineries around. The food is delicious, that little bistro knows what they are doing! Try the Bella Burger and truffle fries! Sooo good! The service is always top par. Of all my years of going there I have yet to run into a staff who is moody or miserable, either at the winery or at an event elsewhere. They always have the nicest, most fun staff working there. The owner seems pretty fun herself so I can see why the staff like their jobs. The atmosphere is always so relaxing and chill.
