Christiana Dental Spa has gone downhill in the last couple years. They were bought by a corporate dental company whose interest is only in the bottom line and it shows. The front-desk and billing staff are in constant flux. At my last visit for a routine cleaning, I was assigned to a new-hire who was clumsy and ended up choking me. I stopped the appointment and came back the next week when a hygienist I'd been using for years was able to see me. She and I have always been on good terms. I expected her to apologize for the prior week's fiasco with the incompetent new-hire. But when I sat down in her chair, she started an angry tirade criticizing me for being so mean to the new hygienist! I was shocked. When I asked to speak with Dr. Young, she cold and unfriendly, more interested in protecting her young new-hire than in my needs as a patient. It was all so unprofessional and weird. Christiana Dental Spa has the worst office staff ever. I called to make an appointment for cleaning and was told that I would have to pay a copay of $50.00 because they are a specialist. I called my insurance company and they reached out to them Dental Spa for an explanation concerning the $50.00 cost. My insurance provider advised the representative that she was wrong. My dental plan covers up to the allotment $$$$, which was no where close to the cost of the cleaning. This was not my first time having issue with Dental Spa involving cost. I would not recommend this office. instead, I'm telling you to run fast and far away from this place. I went in for a new patient visit for cleaning and x-rays. They kept me there for two hours, wow, one of the employees talked to me at nausea about how great the dentist was. They forced me to have x-rays that I didn't need. The hygienist (and I use that term lightly) that came in to clean my teeth, did not clean them. Instead, she told me I needed a deep cleaning to the tune of $355. I have been going for years. I complained about gum sensitivity which I was putting my tongue between this space i had between back teeth on both sides. I was told I had small cavities in between my teeth on both sides. Although I mentioned I had no sensitivity with either tooth or any pain it was my gum that was irradiated. I trusted I had cavities and had them filled. I then decided to go to a different dentist office about same issue just to make sure I wasn't developing gum disease. I had to have all my records and xrays transfer to other dentist. They told me I had no cavities. The cavities I had recently done were filled and sealed properly but would be considered medium size so I definitely would been completely about tooth pain and sensitivity and two teeth were done on both sides not just one as I was told. I was a victim here and had perfectly healthy teeth drilled into for no reason. Do not go here. They only care about money. read more

The dentist and dental assistants/technicians are fantastic here. I mean that both technically and having a good bedside manner. the administrative staff are also excellent and kind. The answering service the Brident Company uses however is absolutely horrific. Every single time I have to try and schedule or reschedule through them my blood pressure goes through the roof. Run don't walk away from this butcher shop. Long story short, my crowns kept falling out that CDS made. They reinstalled them and I ended up with an infection so I went to a real dentist. He couldn't believe the sickening work they did. I have to pay for everything again cause of CDS incompetence. If you complain, you get attitude. Everytime you go back, it's new people. They can't even keep employees. I am so pissed right now and there's more to the story. I'd get a lawyer but I'll spend twice as much to get my money back. Where do I begin? Firstly when you make a dentist appointment the first question asked is, if you are using your insurance. I submitted my insurance via the phone as well as filling out online forms prior to my dental appointment before coming in. When I arrived, I also had to do forms while I was waiting to be seen, which I thought was odd because I had filled out all of my forms, including my insurance information when I first scheduled my appointment online. After, I finished my first appointment, they did not clean my teeth, which is what I wanted. They took x-rays only and sent me away and told me my appointment would be another day. Fine if that's their practice however, this is where the problem comes to fruition. Over two months later I get around to rescheduling for my second appointment and the dentist assistant Gayle is telling me I have an outstanding balance and was I aware that it was $168. How could I have an outstanding balance when you accepted my insurance at my first appointment and did not disclose any information regarding services I would be required to pay that day or even later? I was in a state of shock because I always have had dental insurance that coverages the basics of services. Plus I called to inquire prior to making an appointment to find out if my insurance would be covered for my services. Moreover, this particular dental office has many terrible reviews online regarding surprise bills after receiving services. Just check all the horrific Google reviews as well if you get a chance. They are worse than these, and I'm sure if we all are complaining about relatively the same things was all can't be wrong. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau and I suggest you fine tooth comb your service bill charges and check them against your insurance. I was never under the impression that I would have an outstanding bill and it's not even a high bill but it's the principle of the matter. This dentist office is under bad business practices and will run up your bill then disclose that you have a bill after the fact. When we called the insurance to triple verify, our insurance provider stated and emailed us proof of payments sent directly to the dentist office. The dentist lied and said that we owed money for X-rays and our insurance paid for all of the dental treatments I received. The dentist is a licensed scammer. We were seen in the office June 2024. My 3 teenagers and husband were all told they had cavities and shammed them for such. Since then we moved and we've gone to a new dentist to which they informed us we had NO cavities. Not only did Christiana Dental Spa lie, when I asked for my xray records they sent me on a run around. Finally, they sent my families records, but non of the records had their names on them or date of birth. This place is a HACK!!!! My mother was turned away twice for appts that were scheduled way in advance, but for some reason they dble booked her 1st appt and the computers weren't working the 2nd time. My sister drove 45 minutes to take her to both appts. On my appt they said I need an extensive procedure that would be out of pocket. I ended up going for a second opinion, and found out that was bullshit. This all occurred in 2022. Then I find out a month ago my insurance co had been repeatedly been trying to send them the payment and their bill had a different dentists name (out of network) who I didn't see, wrong address and wrong phone number. It's now 2024 and I'm doing all the leg work to find out their correct address n phone number, going between my insurance co n their clueless and rude billing section to get this settled and Christiana Dental Spa is harassing me to pay when my insurance co resent the payment. Overall 3.5 rounded up Interior: definitely has a spa like feel. Inside is spacious, they have a waterfall wall thing, and plenty of seating. Wait: the wait is usually ~30 minutes plus. It's odd that they make you sit and wait after the cleaning/fillings on check out. Perhaps it's extra busy? I'm not sure because they have 2 billing people working at the same time. Service: this is where this place really shines. Lauren Murphy (hygienist) and Dr. Young are excellent. Very transparent with their practice, establishes great rapport, and super efficient. No time wasted. Thorough cleaning, scaling, floss took 30 minutes. 3 cavity fillings took 30 minutes. 5 stars for these two staff. Structure: this is where it's knocked down 1.5 stars. The very first visit is an ASSESSMENT visit only. The hygienist takes numerous x rays, evaluates your teeth, and the dentist pops in to look at the radiology scans. I'll be honest - it's difficult to find time for myself let alone a dental appointment. I think it'd be reasonable to do a cleaning on the same visit as well. Perhaps it's for billing/reimbursements? I'm not sure, but booking ANOTHER appointment few weeks later to actually get work done is VERY inconvenient and really knocks this place down 2 stars. Overall: would've given this place 3/5 for inconvenience, but Lauren and Dr Young make up for it. Will definitely continue sticking with them. read more

They couldn't be understood and couldn't get a message to my dentist. Worst dental office I've ever been to! I 100000% would never recommend! I went in for surface level cavities (their words) that I didn't even know I had and didn't bother me, and ended up having to see a specialist for root canals and being in the WORST pain of my life! While getting my cavities filled the dentist left 3 times to tend to other patients because they over booked! So I sat for 30 mins at a time with holes in my teeth(I have pictures to prove this!) She came back in and I wasn't numb anymore so I needed more needles! Over 2 hours I spent in that chair for "surface level" cavities. I called them for my records after needing 3 root canals...spoke to the office manager asking what they can do to help me, he LAUGHED at my concerns and said basically there was nothing he could do for me! Changed the wording from what the dentist told me and put it on the notes that they were deep cavities and a lot of decay(was never told this once!) so after telling me there was nothing they could do for me, I am stuck paying thousands of dollars on something that was never an issue! And now I may need to see a neurologist for possible nerve damage! Oh and he also hung up on me! I wish I was exaggerating but this was all true and I would really hope you don't send your loved ones here! read more

I went for an appointment for a broken tooth,filled out an information sheet (Name, address, etc.)and saw the dentist. When I checked out, the receipt was printed in the name of my ex-husband! They did not bother to even enter my correct name. I have written TWO letters asking for a correction and they have not bothered to even respond. Now I cannot file a claim to my insurance for reimbursement. Their billing department is woefully inadequate. If you have insurance, they bill directly and no copy or statement is ever forwarded to you. So, you have no idea what has been billed. And don't even bother asking for anything from their billing offices. SKETCHY to say the least. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

I had a molar that needed a crown. I paid out of pocket for the root canal. The Dental Spa did my crown, it fell. Went for them to fix the issue, the crown fell again. Went back for them to fix it again, I do not know what materials they used that the third time it fell it broke the root canal portion. Made a complaint and requested that they refund back the money and they for sure refuse to pay for the root canal I paid out of pocket. They got paid by the insurance company for a job that was not done according to standard. Insurance companies should have penalties on these organizations that do not provide the service that they claim to have done for the patient. Isn't this consider insurance fraud? I scheduled for my regular tooth cleaning. They just took X-Rays and then mentioned to come back again !!!!!. Then I asked if I can go only for regular cleaning and I was told that they cannot do regular tooth cleaning because of this n that (bla bla bla). They gave me a list of price of services which will cost me more than $800 and without taking this service they declined to do regular tooth cleaning. They are just forcing people how to earn more money. I was there only for my tooth cleaning. They could have told me at the beginning that I must take the X-Ray service before having my regular tooth cleaning. At the end of the X-ray they are saying that my tooth is even not qualified for regular cleaning. I have to spend additional money from my pocket for taking other services.... I have never seen this thing in any place. I am extremely disappointed and they have wasted my time. I do not recommend this place. If it was possible I could have given them 0 Star.. Whoever is the "office manager" named Ariel has the professionalism of a goat. Left multiple messages for this person as I had a scheduled appointment and drove from Central Maryland only to arrive there and they say my appointment had to be canceled because I switched my insurances. Shouldn't be a problem and I owed no bill, but Ariel couldn't give me the decency of an explanation as to why I couldn't have been told beforehand. Not one response on over a month. I had a broken tooth and my regular dentist was closed so called Christiana Dental Spa and they took me right away. They looked at the tooth, took x-rays and they did smooth out the sharp part of my tooth and scheduled me to come back for a crown. When I went to check out they told me the entire process would cost $1,755.50 but they said they called my insurance company and after then insurance payment I would have to pay 786.50 which I split the bill up into 2 payments of 471.90 and 314.60 and after I paid that last payment they said I had a zero balance. Fast forward 3+ months and I get a bill for $302. I called and asked what it was for and they said the insurance company didn't cover the entire cost yet they told me they had already cleared things with my insurance company before they gave me what I would owe. I called my insurance company and they told me they did pay the balance of the bill after my payment and gave me the date paid and amount. Call dentist again and they said they would look into it and call my insurance company again next thing I know I'm in collections. I called and left message after message and no return call. I just got another bill in the mail (9 months after last visit) and tried to call them about it. The recording said they were closed. It was 2:33 in the afternoon and their website said they didn't close until 3:00! Left a lengthy message about this whole thing and now I at least have my dental insurance company backing me up. They are going to send me all the information on the payments made and I have my credit card bill to prove my payments. I will not pay $302 until they can prove to me I owe it. I signed papers stating what the cost of the crown would be and what I had to pay so I have that too. I will never go back there for anything. Not to mention my crown is slowly disentigrating and causing me pain. I will have to go to my regular dentist to have it fixed and I know they won't they to scam me into paying more than I owe! I already filed a dispute with the Equifax and I am no longer getting collection letters, I am just getting bills straight from the Christiana Dental Spa. I am so disappointed. I was ready to make them my regular dentist and they ruined it by lying to me or lying to the insurance company and trying to get another $302 out of me. I would give a zero, but 1 star seems to be the lowest possible rating. I had cleaning scheduled in May 2022. They checked my teeth, took x-ray, and did some sort of cleaning but recommended to be checked by a periodontist due to bone loss. I went to see the periodontist and requested to send the x-ray to the periodontist. The periodontist also sent a request to Mathews for the x-ray, but the Mathew's staff didn't send anything. I ended up took another x-ray at the periodontist and paid for the fee unnecessarily for a second time. I don't understand why it's so difficult for the Mathews to send my record to another doctor I have approved? It's just a few typing work and several clicks of mouse! Then after check, the periodontist said I can go ahead with cleaning scheduled with the Mathews in November. I came to the office but Mathew's cleaning staff refused to do the cleaning for me! It took me a long time trying to persuade that the periodontist has OK'ed going ahead with the planned cleaning, but she just wouldn't agree. The dispute escalated to Dr Mathew and he eventually came. I talked to him that I cannot afford come here waiting for hours and doing nothing. Dr Mathews agreed and asked the staff (Danielle) to do the cleaning. Later I found I was charged $69 for a so-called evaluation fee. There was no evaluation whatsoever. I just talked the staff and the Dr insisting that I already seen the periodontist that cleaning has to and can be done as scheduled. That's it! It's ridiculous they charge me another fee for negotiating and resolving an argument! read more

I initially called for a new appointment it was scheduled on 8/4 but due to the storm, I cancelled. I left a message asking to reschedule. The office called me back and we discussed dates/time. The appointment was rescheduled for 8/28 at 8am. Texts were sent reminding me of appointment, but on 8/20 a message was sent stating my appt was on 9/4 at noon. When I called, the lady I had been speaking with from the beginning, stated that they don't open at that time and that my appointment was moved. I told her I received the texts before for my original date. She said I don't know. Totally flippant about the situation. So it was a unilateral decision which should NOT have been made. I truly believe they lie to their patients on the services they say you need - when the original hygienist exams your teeth - they want you to make a second appt. You come in for the service and at the 2nd appt the hygienist says you don't need that extensive cleaning/work and you don't get it but the front office won't change the actual downgraded service rendered in their system. I had been going to Christiana Dental Spa for quite a few years. Every time I went there was supposedly in issue. This past August when I went I specifically scheduled for a regular cleaning. When I got to the appointment and was sitting in the chair was told I was getting a deep cleaning. I said no this was not what I scheduled. They refused to treat me unless I did the deep cleaning telling me that it was necessary. I left without being treated. Fast forward...11/14/18 Found a new dentist and was seen today. Had x-rays forwarded to the new dentist. Mentioned to the new dentist all the things that Christiana Dental Spa told me I needed done. Cavity filled, deep cleaning, crown replaced(which they did and it chipped). New dentist you don't have a cavity on that tooth or any teeth, didn't need a deep cleaning received regular cleaning, The crown is okay until I am ready to get it replaced. I had them price the crown and it was half of what Christiana Dental Spa wanted to charge. Very disappointed and hope that you change your practices. read more

Terrible experience. Came in for a routine check up as a new patient. I wasn't in any pain, but apparently the X-rays showed 3 "borderline" cavities. I was told "We can let it go till next time or we can take care of them right away". So I said "let's do it now". One tooth was done right. The dentist left a rough edge on one of the fillings, and totally screwed up the third tooth. It was insanely painful to floss. I had to go back 2 more times to try to fix it. It still hurts!!! This place is a scam, and the customer service is garbage... First I go the first appointment and they tell me they have to do a deep cleaning and so I have to break up the cleaning over three different sessions, and pay for anesthetic out of my pocket to the tune of about $130 each session, this made no sense because I have had a deep cleaning on two other occasions and it was done all in one appointment with no anesthetic and no additional cost. Second I chose this practice because they had late evening hours so I scheduled all three appointments for 6:00pm, the first two they changed to 5:30 without my consent and then sent me a text message of the change. The last appointment they canceled altogether the day before the appointment, telling me that the Dentist didn't want to work late anymore. I get it if they don't want to work late anymore but it's a good practice to honor the appointments that you already scheduled. This place was very unprofessional and show no interest in the patients needs. Needless to say I will be looking for another Dentist. read more

Had always appreciated the service until yesterday. My appointment was moved from it's scheduled time of 5pm without my knowledge or confirmation, to a slot of 6pm, ON THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT. Then, three hours later, I was left a message that the appointment was cancelled altogether. As I didn't receive these messages in time, I still arrived at the appointment at 5pm. I was told that "6pm might open up due to a patient that did not confirm" and encouraged to stay. I was then told at 5:45 the patient had confirmed. Having now sat there for nearly an hour, I asked to reschedule the appointment in the same time slot, and was told I would be unable to for seven weeks. This felt unacceptable, and when I shared that it was, the staff member assured me they would look into things and call me the next day. I have not been called, and when I called the office to resolve the situation, no better opportunity was provided, except signing up for a website on which I could manually look for cancellations myself. When I asked why the office couldn't call me in the case of a cancellation, I was told I would have to do it myself through the website. This is unacceptable, and even worse, seems to be in line with other recent reviews I found elsewhere. Barring quick and fair resolution, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I would NOT recommend this dental place to anyone. I scheduled an appointment for a regular tooth cleaning and I ended up having to leave. I left work early to go to my appointment after pre-medicating and it was a total waste. The hygienist started taking measurements and after 30 minutes, the hygienist tells me that she cannot do a regular tooth cleaning because I needed to get a "deep cleaning" done. I told them I didn't want to do that and I just wanted a regular cleaning. They declined to do a regular cleaning and said if I don't agree to do that, they wouldn't be able to do my cleaning at all. As a patient, I have a right to pick and choose what kind of treatment I want to do. Never in my previous years have I been forced to do a treatment I didn't agree to. Because I haven't had dental insurance, I haven't been able to come in several years. Recently experienced severe dental pain and called for help. They got me in within hours of my calling. Turns out I needed a root canal. They got an appointment for me asap and were so incredibly kind and good. I just couldn't be happier with the service and quality of work. They held my hand when I was nervous and gave me a blanket to help with comfort because of how anxious I was. You won't find a better place to go. The hours are good too with Saturday appointments. The office is clean and is one of the nicest offices I have been in. There's a spa upstairs too. I really can't say enough good things about this place. If you're looking for a dentist, I highly recommend it. They are warm and friendly and make going to dentist even for a root canal a pleasant experience. read more
