I had a case of severe stretch marks and my rectus abdominis was stretched beyond non-surgical options. I am very physically active my routine included crossfit, aerial yoga, hoops and dancing. My abdomen skin was floppy and I had a pouch no matter how much I exercised It was embarrassing to lift my arms fearing my abdomen would show. I was referred to Dr. Hicks by one of my Crossfit buddies. She told me he was great and he had a payment plan I was so excited. I made an appointment immediately for a consultation. I scheduled my procedure for December 14, 2019. I met with him a week before my surgery and I was able to ask him questions and discuss any concerns that I may have. He was honest and realistic in what outcome could be expected for my condition. I really appreciated his honesty. However, the results were better than I could every imagine. I received a Christmas card from the office wishing me Merry Christmas and a speedy recovery. If that wasn't enough, Dr. Hicks called me 3 days post op to check on me and one of his staff members called me 4 days post op to check one me. I went in weekly for about 3 weeks to be checked. He cleared me to receive Lymphatic drainage massages by Malena. I highly recommend these massages. The massages helped me to stand up straighter, decreased swelling, decreased soreness and just felt good. I had stretch marks above my navel so those remain, but they're not very visible and I can rock a two piece with no shame to my game. My body is summer ready. I was referred out to 5 other doctors all of which would not operate on my son's infection. I took it upon myself to go outside my network and obtain my own surgeon to treat his infection; however, he was unable to control the infection. He was understanding and knowledgeable; he expedited the surgery within one week and was extremely successful. During the day of the surgery I remember asking around and several nurses said said he was the "Go-to doctor and is one of the best doctors here." This review is long overdue. Due to a traumatic experience it has taken me almost 4 years to write…read more In September 2020 Dr. Hurvitz repaired our son's face at just a few hours old. Dr. Hurvitz is a wonderful surgeon and human being. My newborn baby was cut from eye to ear during a crash c-section. 3 plastics surgeons turned down the repair because they felt they weren't skilled enough due to how deep the cut was and the proximity to nerves, his eye, his ear, muscles, the age of the newborn and other various factors. They weren't sure if my son would be able to feed, or use his eye. One surgeon called Dr. Hurvitz in to the hospital for a consultation. Thank God Dr. Hurvitz agreed to come in and do the surgery. He was off, and at home with his family. His team kept my baby alive when he had to be intubated and struggled to breathe (he was hours old and had been exposed to many drugs during the crash c-section because they couldn't get me numb). Finally, at almost midnight I got to meet my son after 8 hours. He was perfect. His incision/ scar was minimal. It's hardly noticeable now, almost 4 years later. Sometimes when his face turns red I can see a faint white line. It was so big, so complicated and so deep, and now it's a tiny paper thin line. The stitching was beautifully done. Most importantly He was able to nurse, and use his eye, he had no issues opening or closing it. Dr. Hurvitz repaired the muscle, nerves and incision perfectly. His office staff are also wonderful people. They patiently worked with me on insurance and payment. They answered every email, and call. They are a Wonderful group of ladies. Dr. Hurvitz bedside manner when I met him and his assistant put me at ease. I don't remember what he said, but how he made me feel. He cared. He was funny. And he's absolutely the best surgeon. Thank you Dr. Hurvitz. You were one of the few good things that happened to us during that horrible experience. We thank God for you every time we look at our son's face. He's gorgeous and healthy. This hospital as always pulled through for me. From emergencies, surgery and radiology etc. This hospital has taken care of my family. This place has some of the best doctors in place. Clean hospital, with staff that is professional. From admissions, nurses and doctors. All were professional that treated you with respect. But not to sugarcoat, there are some security guards that are completely jerks! Incompetent and judgemental. But I assume no matter where you go, there are always a few. :) I hate hospitals period, for some reason Memorial has been comforting. Compared to County hospitals and nearby hospitals in in the Long Beach area. Memorial is solid. Of course all comes with Good Health Insurance.
