Coquito Ornaments and Iced Paniolo Hot Chocolate

Bring on the Christmas vibes! Came here with my group of gal pals to have a night of fun. I don't typically go to pop-ups, but why not. Once you walk in, you're welcomed with Christmas decor. They transformed the old Chili's to a Christmas pop-up. Once we're seated, half the group is on the bench, while two others are on chairs. Honestly, for a group of 5, I think it was a little too tight but we made it work. It was a little disappointing that the Naughty or Spice wasn't available because who wouldn't want to try an ube drink. But that's okay, we settled for the Coquito Ornament and Iced Paniolo Chocolate. $15 for the Coquito was honestly steep, but I guess you're paying for the "experience." The servers were really nice and friendly. They were helpful and the ambiance of the place really gives you Christmas vibes!

I'm a sucker for holiday bars whether it be for Halloween or Christmas! So stoked that this one opened up at Pearlridge! No driving into town this year! Located at the old Chili's, the building was perfect for the Christmas lodge aesthetic. Of course the drinks are overpriced because hello inflation! Expect to pay $15 per cocktail. We arrived shortly after 6pm on a Friday night and had to wait about 20 minutes to get seated. The coquito was my favorite. Don't forget to check out the speakeasy behind the building -- Karmpus' Lair! They have their own drink menu too!

This Christmas theme pop-up took over the old Chili's at Pearlridge Mall. Lots of free parking. Service was great! They only have a coupe of snacks to munch on, so eat before or after! There is a limit of 90 minutes if it is busy.

Had fun with my friends. Got the paniolo drink. My friend wasn't into it, so the waitress helped us decide on an alternative drink for him. Later on we caught attitude with the waitress when I asked if we could have an itemized receipt. I think she thought I was asking if we could have separate checks, which they will only accommodate if you let them know before you order. Understandable, it's a pop-up. But no, I just wanted to see the itemized receipt so I knew exactly how much I had to Venmo my friend lmao. Cause we're not trying to split the check four ways if one friend only got a ginger beer. When it was clear she did not know what an itemized receipt was, I just took a picture of the POS system. Train your staff on what a receipt is so that they aren't unnecessarily rude to customers. I was a server once. I know when customers are dumb. And I don't think I deserved that.

You can sometimes find them at food festivals, and they always have the longest line but at their brick and mortar- you can always satisfy your Filipino cravings. One of my favorite things on their menu is the calamansi chicken wings, it's got a bit of spicy kick and it's so good. You can order just the wings or get it as a bowl with rice and pickled vegetables. The sisig is also a classic that you can get with either crispy chicken or pork belly that's chopped up into small pieces and served with an egg. I love that all of the food here has a nice balance of salt, fat, and acid. And if you're wanting to try out all their best sellers, go for the kamayan sampler with lechon fries, calamansi fried chicken with rice, and ube churros. Or their Chef's special with lechon, calamansi fried chicken, and kalbi short ribs.

The space is cozy and welcoming, with limited amount of seating but ok for holding intimate events. Service is always great, food always comes out fresh and hot, and they always get our orders right. My personal favorites would be: * Kare-Kare (Beef Peanut Stew), which reminds me of my mom's cooking; and * Calamansi fried chicken + noodles, the noodles are very nostalgic for me as it reminds me of my "merienda" (afternoon snack) when I was growing up (in the Philippines). They usually change up their monthly specials (which I always look forward too) so make sure to check out their Instagram page @minasahawaii. Plenty of shared parking space in the shopping complex where it's located (Tropicana Square).

I think the idea is awesome, just terrible execution with no commitment to the theme. A nostalgia fueled watering hole with no frills drinks menu and a DJ. Party at the old Chili's restaurant at Pearl Ridge. You'll find it near the Long's and across from Blue Tropix bar. Plenty of parking. Staff are friendly. The bar has the restaurant side with tables set up if you want to grab drinks and hang out. The bar side of the restaurant has a dance floor and the DJ. When we first got there it was like an awkward middle school dance with nobody on the dance floor. By the time we left, there was a handful of young adults dancing and singing along to Apple Bottom Jeans and California Girls by Katy Perry. The drinks are decent, tho it's a lot of environmental waste because it's all served in single use plastics and take out cups. Each drink has something "special" and plastic. A blinking light ice cube. A butterfly hair clip. A plastic stir straw with a star on it. Shots served on mini beer pong red plastic cups. The music was all from the year 2000+. My personal theory is that 90% of music sucked after we slipped past Y2K. We played a trivia game, playing "guess the year this song came out" and 95% was later than 2000. Backstreet Boys, Missy Eliot, Katie Perry, Britney. Like going to a teenage girls slumber party circa 2008. No nineties hip hop, pop, grunge etc. They should have done their research. The decor was mostly 80's movie posters. Gremlins, children of the corn, back to the future, ET. There were some VHS cassettes and tapes scattered around and a few neon lights. The music was a decade too late and the decor a decade too early. Food menu was lunchables, uncrustables (saucer shaped PB&J sandwiches in more plastic), Slim Jim's to snap into and pringles. Don't go if you're hungry or actually lived during the 90's.

So I ordered one. It came and I took a sip and it tasted...gross. Off. Burned a little. So I asked a friend to drink it. Full of vodka. They served me alcohol. She was kind when I brought it up and took it off the bill and brought me a free bottle of water. Then promptly avoided all eye contact for the rest of the night. Inside was freezing. Besides decor and music, it wasn't nearly as fun as we expected. No food besides bar nuts. It would be a game changer if they had at least a couple items of food. Shoot, they could have made a fortune serving hot pockets! Would never come back. Absolutely a one and done.

We have lived in this area for many years so I mentioned this Italian restaurant and suggested we give it a try. Lo and behold , we were both very pleasantly surprised! The ambience was awesome and the food was the best Italian that we've had in a long while.... The service was impeccable. We had three or four guys always checking us and not in an inconvenient; the timing was perfect. I had their amazing lasagna and my wife had a delicious fettuccine pasta. We were very impressed, so decided to try a dessert (or two) and they were equally amazing. We opted to try as an appetizer, the side of sausage and peppers.... The crust on the chicken could've been more crispy. The Italian sausage tasted good with the Alfredo sauce and the meatball was nice and soft. Maybe even too soft from extra filler bread crumbs. Service: We went early on a Tuesday so it wasn't too crowded and the servers were very attentive. Ambiance: it felt like an old school Italian restaurant that used to be fancy. Price: I haven't been here for years so prices have definitely gone up quite high since then. The large portions range from $30-$45 depending on the protein. I'd say its worth it to come here on special occasions for decent Italian food with large portions.
