I'll never stop raving about this place…read more Minasa is a restaurant serving a variety of comforting and nostalgic Filipino food -- appetizers, entree, desserts and drinks. The space is cozy and welcoming, with limited amount of seating but ok for holding intimate events. Service is always great, food always comes out fresh and hot, and they always get our orders right. My personal favorites would be: * Kare-Kare (Beef Peanut Stew), which reminds me of my mom's cooking; and * Calamansi fried chicken + noodles, the noodles are very nostalgic for me as it reminds me of my "merienda" (afternoon snack) when I was growing up (in the Philippines). They usually change up their monthly specials (which I always look forward too) so make sure to check out their Instagram page @minasahawaii. Plenty of shared parking space in the shopping complex where it's located (Tropicana Square).

They talked it up and hyped it up so my wife and I decided to try it out last October for our anniversary. We showed up and they were closed for an event. Since then we've tried to eat here multiple times with it being booked or not open. It's been elusive. Last weekend was the weekend we finally were able to eat here being in Waipahu and the wait finally ended! We ordered the chef's special, salted egg fried rice, ube churros, and banana lumpia sundae. The dishes were colorful and vibrant. Everything tasted good but we were looking for that twist that was hyped up to us and there was nothing unfamiliar to our taste buds. Though we left full and enjoyed our meal, the "new" flavors didn't stand out. Overall we were quite underwhelmed especially with all the hype that was given to us over their food. Maybe I ordered the wrong things? Not sure but we'll likely give this a second shot when we're in Waipahu again at the right time.

Flavor bombs!…read more But first, eateries take people pointing vlogging cameras, very seriously I break out my EDC, Ricoh GR-III that looks like a Sony ZV family of camera sans the dead cat and "what's your youtube channel?" or "do you have a vlog?" or even "what publication do you work for?" I should have pulled out the camera here. The owner knew he burned my food. He even made eye contact with me to see if I saw him, assumed I didn't then put it in a container and give it to me. Too bad because the pakora (battered, deep fried assorted spiced up veg) would have been absolutely delicious based on the nibble at the very center of the charred puck. Momo's are excellent. This one with a gently chewy outer layer surrounding spiced up (cumin, cinnamon, cardamom to name a few) chicken. Outstanding with the accompanying slightly spicy roasted tomato and cilantro sauce. Samosas equally good. Lard based crisp crust on the outside, spiced up potatoes, peas, and onions on the inside. Inexpensive. Despite the faux pas a transient eatery worth seeking out to try new things from.

So I asked what's the difference with your menu items with the response I got from the gentleman...flavor! With a serious look we use flavor there are various spices used and it's just very flavorful...ooo okay! Having already ate at another truck he was hoping I'd make it into a combo plate but instead just got the Momo which came with 10 pieces and a side of sauce as it's put in a paper boat dish I knew this would be epic fail if I didn't find a seat...walking to a stairwell to the lower level I decided on that as I didn't feel like the impromptu picnic on the grass. The sauce isn't as orange as pictured though is very seasoned with various spices are was very delicious. The dumplings are steamed and are crimped in the cutest round shape held all the fillings nicely bite after bite it really was very flavorful and not bland like the guy promised. Nepali Cuisine at Wai Kai making it a stunning view and as the sun goes down so did all the Momo. Thank you!

Wong Kung Chinese Restaurant is located in a small strip mall a few doors down from the FAMOUS Elena's Filipino Foods restaurant. Wong Kung Chinese Restaurant looks a bit dated, but since I'm a fan of old skool eateries, I figured I'd give a try. Upon looking over the menu, I decided to order the "Menu for Five" which the price was listed at $99.99, and the following items were on this menu - 1. Scallop Soup 2. Mix Seafood with Vegetables 3. Fried Fish Cube 4. Char Siu Fried Rice 5. Roast Duck (1/2 order) 6. Sweet Sour Spareribs 7. Beef Broccoli 8. Sam See Mein What can I say about the grub??? Overall, most of the food items were pretty good, with the exception of the Scallop Soup which my dad & I found to be a wee bit too salty. I also found that the Roast Duck appeared to be kinda dried out. As for the rest of the menu items, it was pretty good! Some of the outstanding items were the Fried Fish Cubes, as it was nicely deep fried & although a dipping sauce was given, it was not necessarily needed. The stir-fried items like the Seafood w/Vegetables and Beef Broccoli are hard to mess up, and those dishes were good. The Sam See Mein was also delicious, and I would easily come back here for their noodles. Service here was on point, fast friendly service. When I paid for the meal, I'm not sure if they automatically added on the tip? The bill came out to $119.70 (not including tax) when on the menu, it said $99.99. To top it off, there was another 3% charge if you pay via credit card. I think the business needs to update the menu, if you're not going to stick to the prices as listed on the menu.

Their house special fried rice was good but the half roast duck I ordered appeared to be not the freshest, kinda "old". Service was good; the woman welcomed me in and the male cashier was pleasant. Our experience with Bobby started with private a tasting in their lounge of a few of the things we were hoping to have on our menu. We tried two mains, a salad and a few sides... when I say everything was a smash it, i really mean it! Our package included a third main and we honestly told him he could pick what to bring because obviously he knows how to cook- it'd be impossible to choose! For our wedding we had the kalbi shortribs, garlic shrimp, and huli huli chicken for our mains. Our salad was the one with the warm bacon dressing (OMG DELICIOUS), and we also had truffle mashed potatoes, a ratatouille, rice and i think 3 appetizers. It was ALL so good. Our guests have been raving about it since. Not only was the food to die for, but also the service before and during the wedding too! we had a few dietary restrictions to accommodate and Bobby was so easy to work with and already had ideas ready to go. Then there's the wait staff - who brought my husband and I full plates of everything first, before anyone else. So many people say they don't get to eat at their own weddings and they made sure that DIDNT happen to us. I was still so anxious that I didn't clear my plate but everything i DID eat was just as good as the tasting. The staff stayed and helped my coordinator for the rest of the night as well. After dinner they boxed up all the leftover food for us to take home and I was so happy for that! Since I didn't eat a ton at my own wedding I got to house all of the leftovers with our families. The taste, the value, the service... it really can't be beat. We've already decided we'll be tracking down his foodtruck whenever we can!

The pancit was a standout: bihon noodles perfectly stir-fried with green onions and subtle seasoning, light yet satisfying as a side that balanced the richer dishes without overwhelming. Dinuguan brought that deep, savory pork blood stew richness - tender meat in a chocolatey gravy with a vinegar kick, way better than average and not overly gamey Monggo (mung beans) was hearty and comforting, simmered smooth with malunggay or bittermelon options for that homey veggie depth - grows on you with each bite. Veggie lumpia delivered crispy perfection: fresh fillings, not greasy, and a great crunchy contrast to the stews. Generous portions at fair prices, quick service, and that lechon nearby if you want to level up next time. Solid Waipahu/Honolulu Filipino spot - will return!

My family and I were craving Filipino food and walked in hoping to get our fix. The restaurant was empty with 2 people dining in so we thought we avoided the dinner rush. Upon entering we were approached by a middle aged woman who points us to a chair and tells us "over here is fine". No greeting or acknowledgement. Even before we could get to our chair, she shouts out about 5 dishes they were out of with her back turned to us. This lady was cold and absurdly rude. We left and ended up just getting dinner from Foodland. I would've loved to have spent my money on a Filipino owned restaurant but it seemed that lady didn't want the business and never cared to help anyone that came through her restaurant. Such a very disappointing experience. I rarely drop 1 star reviews but I walked away stunned at the lack of customer service this lady displayed. Do yourself a favor and go to Elena's. They actually care about their restaurant and the people who spend their hard earned money there. I'll never be coming back. I'll also be sharing my experience so others are spared their time and money.
