My wife and I were on an adventure out to Waikele and decided to stop by Waipahu for lunch. How I…read morefound this place, I'm not sure. It might've been the search for fried chicken to which Minasa didn't disappoint. We arrived just after opening and happened to get the last open table - after ordering, of course. The restaurant is clean and well put together with darker accents. Our food came out relatively quick - having the chef's special and ube churros. The kalbi sauce soaking into the rice was the perfect balance of flavors. Same for the calamansi fried chicken. Lechon, I must say was also a fine example of how seriously the chefs take their selection of ingredients - as I looked closer, it had the classic 5 layers (shown in my photo). Usually, this is the prime factor in the perfect roast pork - providing juicy layers of pork meat. Overall, this has been the best (new) meal we've had in a LONG time. It was so delicious, I could only wish there was a way to share this place with a larger collection of diners because frankly, if you haven't tried this place, I honestly think you're missing out on the definition of culinary art. Each dish carefully crafted with the goal of providing the best experience to all the patrons. I seriously seriously hope you all have a chance to visit. If we're ever back on this side of the island, we won't hesitate to stop by.

They talked it up and hyped it up so my wife and I decided to try it out last October for our anniversary. We showed up and they were closed for an event. Since then we've tried to eat here multiple times with it being booked or not open. It's been elusive. Last weekend was the weekend we finally were able to eat here being in Waipahu and the wait finally ended! We ordered the chef's special, salted egg fried rice, ube churros, and banana lumpia sundae. The dishes were colorful and vibrant. Everything tasted good but we were looking for that twist that was hyped up to us and there was nothing unfamiliar to our taste buds. Though we left full and enjoyed our meal, the "new" flavors didn't stand out. Overall we were quite underwhelmed especially with all the hype that was given to us over their food. Maybe I ordered the wrong things? Not sure but we'll likely give this a second shot when we're in Waipahu again at the right time.

I think the idea is awesome, just terrible execution with no commitment to the theme. A nostalgia fueled watering hole with no frills drinks menu and a DJ. Party at the old Chili's restaurant at Pearl Ridge. You'll find it near the Long's and across from Blue Tropix bar. Plenty of parking. Staff are friendly. The bar has the restaurant side with tables set up if you want to grab drinks and hang out. The bar side of the restaurant has a dance floor and the DJ. When we first got there it was like an awkward middle school dance with nobody on the dance floor. By the time we left, there was a handful of young adults dancing and singing along to Apple Bottom Jeans and California Girls by Katy Perry. The drinks are decent, tho it's a lot of environmental waste because it's all served in single use plastics and take out cups. Each drink has something "special" and plastic. A blinking light ice cube. A butterfly hair clip. A plastic stir straw with a star on it. Shots served on mini beer pong red plastic cups. The music was all from the year 2000+. My personal theory is that 90% of music sucked after we slipped past Y2K. We played a trivia game, playing "guess the year this song came out" and 95% was later than 2000. Backstreet Boys, Missy Eliot, Katie Perry, Britney. Like going to a teenage girls slumber party circa 2008. No nineties hip hop, pop, grunge etc. They should have done their research. The decor was mostly 80's movie posters. Gremlins, children of the corn, back to the future, ET. There were some VHS cassettes and tapes scattered around and a few neon lights. The music was a decade too late and the decor a decade too early. Food menu was lunchables, uncrustables (saucer shaped PB&J sandwiches in more plastic), Slim Jim's to snap into and pringles. Don't go if you're hungry or actually lived during the 90's.

So I ordered one. It came and I took a sip and it tasted...gross. Off. Burned a little. So I asked a friend to drink it. Full of vodka. They served me alcohol. She was kind when I brought it up and took it off the bill and brought me a free bottle of water. Then promptly avoided all eye contact for the rest of the night. Inside was freezing. Besides decor and music, it wasn't nearly as fun as we expected. No food besides bar nuts. It would be a game changer if they had at least a couple items of food. Shoot, they could have made a fortune serving hot pockets! Would never come back. Absolutely a one and done.

So soft inside, nice and crusty outside, served warm with a side of butter. (Would be nice if the butter were not so cold because it smashes the bread.) so yummy! Friend got Shrimp Scampi and added snow peas for $3. They will add any veggie they have at a cost of $3 per veggie added, so it can get expensive to add more. She was happy with her meal and enjoyed it. (After we ordered, she mentioned she thinks she got shrimp with assorted veggies before in a scampi sauce and wondered if it was a special since the only shrimp dish on the menu with assorted veggies wasn't a shrimp scampi.) I got the Veal Scaloppine Piccata. Asked if they could not overcook the veal (which happened to both hubby's and my veal last time). Server said they could cook it medium or medium rare. I asked for medium rare. Now that's not really possible with the veal pounded so thin, but my dish came and the meat was not overcooked, it was nice and tender. It could have been browned a tad more, but that would probably have meant turning the heat up a bit and flash frying/browning the veal so I was satisfied. Tender veal is more important to me than nicely browned and crisped breading. The pasta (linguine) and capers with the lemony sauce was delicious in mine. We both ordered the regular size, which is very pricey but for both of us it meant we got another meal out of it. Paesano also provides dinner with a spoon To twirl your pasta in, which was helpful since it's hard to be sure to get some capers with each bite. I've noticed not all Italian restaurants do this now days. We also ordered sorbet, lychee for her, mango for me and we were both happy. As we were leaving I saw a couple using chopsticks to eat their pasta, and I thought, "Why didn't I think of that? I do that when I order a salad!" Will try it next time. We were able to have a leisurely lunch and catch up without being rushed out of the restaurant, which was nice. They also split the check for us. We were going to just half the bill but it just so happens our meals cost exactly the same so that made it very easy.

As we walked in, the decor brought me into a different realm. Because they are located in the Waimalu Shopping Center, I didn't expect it to be that nice on the inside. I expected a casual paper napkin type of place. I walked in and immediately felt that "Italian Restaurant" feel Service was amazing here, wine was delicious, dessert and appetizer were delicious too. I only have it 4 starts bc I wasn't a fan of their pasta. Just my personal opinion but I wasn't a fan of their sauce and their pasta. I think I ordered the Veal Scallopine Alla Sorrentino, my boyfriend had the New York steak and shrimp scampi.... He enjoyed his. So it could've been the dish I ordered. I really really really enjoyed Paesano Crab Cakes, tiramisu, and tartufo coffee ice cream..... oh ya and the bottle of Reisling... When I come back, I'll definitely do a different dish
