Shout out to fellow YELPER Karen F. for her review and subsequent personal recommendation for Chrome Salon. I have been following this place for the years since it opened and its rave reviews but somehow I never made it here as I was stuck in the rut of "State-Street-in -Media -only" hairdressing. There's approximately 11 salons on that street and small side streets so that is the area in Western Delaware County where everybody goes. State Street is the happening place to go to get your hair done. Chrome isn't within the downtown area per se but on the outskirts out by the Media bypass. And this is one of the reasons why I jumped out of my comfort zone and gave it a shot because they have their own parking lot and that's worth it's weight in gold instead of driving around for 10 minutes trying to find a parking spot in busy Downtown Media. That's where the differences end. This salon is just as active, vibrant ,upbeat and in tune with current styles and products as all those overpriced State Street salons. I tend to only want to stay with hairdressers for about five years so I was looking for somebody new and I selected SHERI M. I was not disappointed. She spent her time looking at my hair and the suggestions she had were great. This was indicative of her vast experience as a hairdresser. She has a true "feel "for her clients. The first time I went she cut my hair and I was very happy with it so I scheduled a foil touchup three weeks later. I was beyond happy with how I looked after I left there. When she found that I sometimes like to go to bed with my hair damp because it comes out wavy and curly in the morning, she suggested a product to put in before bedtime that would keep the curls intact but eliminate the frizz that has seemed to have developed in my hair in the last year. I love that this is a family owned and run salon. I hadn't met the owners but I met a man there recently who was doing shampooing who was somehow related to the family and he gave me the history of how Chrome came about. It was also interesting to hear that they had recently started their own hairdressing Academy. All in all you'll get a great feel for Chrome and enjoy your experience there. Chrome moved to an office complex location off of Baltimore Pike in Nether Providence. It's REALLY nice. Parking is way easier compared to the previous location. And inside it is SPACIOUS, with numerous different rooms... which means they are set-up really well for distancing. (I was impressed.) The one thing to be careful about is your exit. If you need to make a left turn across Baltimore Pike and if traffic is busy, I recommend you go right instead and do a u-turn at the first traffic light. (Much easier and safer.) (I go to Chrome for Mag. I'm a fan of hers. She's good at cutting curly/wild hair.) read more

Honestly, I had a 5 star first experience at Chrome with Abbie and the fabulous Sherri M. I was referred to Chrome by several friends who are "moms" at my kid's school. I never went because I was loyal to another stylist, but she recently left her place to have a baby and since I am not sure when she'll be back I decided to "try". Well, I am glad I did. Sherri gave me a color and blow-out (no cut this time - but likely next time) and used Redken permanent color, single process. It. Is. Lovely. Abbie served as receptionist and shampoo-person - and she was working hard. I can't imagine how busy she must be on a weekend. (They are closed Sunday and Monday). Parking was a little tight but OK - you can always park at the nearby firehouse and walk over. Pricing is mid-priced ($85 for color and blow-out, before tips to both ladies). I will be back. I've been going to Chrome for almost 5 years now, and I consider this to be my "happy place". I've been seeing Becky for the majority of my time going to her salon and love how she's helped me find "my" hairstyle! I had kept my hair very long for years, and I finally asked her to cut some, then went back and asked for more, and finally CHOPPED chopped it, totaling more than a foot of hair off of my head. She keeps up on my undercut for me as well. I cannot imagine going anywhere else! read more

Had a terrible experience here yesterday. The stylist cut WAY more of my hair off than I requested. My hair grows slowly so it's going to take probably a year or more to grow back what I lost. I am devastated, I couldn't sleep last night because I was so sad about my hair. I will NOT be returning. read more

Homey feeling salon with gorgeous interior. Today I visited Chrome Salon for the first time. It was a nice experience. Shannon was so sweet, welcoming, and kind. You can tell she really cares about making her clients feel welcome. Absolutely no complaints about Shannon! I also can't believe how affordable their prices are. Very cheap prices. However, I found it kind of rude that when I walked in there was nobody at the front desk. I stood there for like 5 minutes looking around and confused. It was my first time there. I wasn't even sure if I was in the right place. Everyone was busy doing hair and I understood that. But I would've appreciated someone to say "we'll be right with you." Or to at least be acknowledged. I felt kind of ignored. I don't know. That offended me enough that I'm questioning returning. read more

I saw and heard wonderful things about this salon. I thought I would give it a try- they were wonderfully kind to me, during my visit. I showed a pixie of how I wanted to take my level 2 hair color to a 4 with some bayalage on the ends. I was told they would do some color correction and would be able to achieve the color I wanted. see attached photos. that's me the weekend before (far left) then what I asked for, then what I got. Once I got home I realized my color service and color correction and cut were not to my satisfaction. The color applied over the lightened hair was patchy and uneven, and not the level 4 we had agreed upon. I had not received the proper haircut and quickly realized my color correction had caused subsequent horrible hair breakage and damage from the color correction (taken too far). my hair was a level 2 with some older color in it which had a blue base that was trying to be removed. I was not happy, nor did it meet my expectation. I had wished to take it to a level 3 with a few pieces of face-framing balyage highlights (also only minimally lighter in color- very subtle according to our conversations and subsequent pictures I brought with me). they lightened me to a near blonde all over, and damaged my hair beyond belief. and according to management my only option was for them to fix it. my trust was/is broken and I have truly been traumatized. I have breakage all over and gaping holes and uneven color and uneven consistency in the texture and quality of my hair. my hair was almost to my waist and healthy- I just wanted to freshen it up. My hair has never been damaged (other than occasional single-process color). they offered to fix it, and I politely declined and asked for my money back. I also offered to come show them so that I was giving them the opportunity to see what damage was done and we could end this amicability. I was told that wasn't necessary. I wanted the money back so I could go to my normal place, Fabrizio spa and salon in Wilmington, DE and have it corrected. they refused. they (the husband/co-owner) said they: "do not give refunds". the process cost me 180 dollars (not including a product I purchased. Today, at Fabrizio- it is costing me 185 dollars to begin the "road to recovery" on my hair. that's not including products I need now to repair and the future color I need- no further color can be added to my hair for fear of further damage. so I cannot color correct- I can do damage control and hope that in a few weeks it's beginning to heal and I don't have further breakage (not something I am accustomed to having) and my hair doesn't need to be cut to a lob. :/ I'm terribly sad I chose to go with them- I'm heartbroken I have this long process because of a bad decision I made. the husband called me back and offered me a bottle of conditioner and the 32 dollars back for my haircut cost at their salon. I was having a hair emergency and as an out-of-town person I had no idea where to go. I passed chrome and decided to stop. I explained my situation and they were so sweet! Everyone in there was really nice and laughed with me about it. They helped me without hesitation which is a rare quality these days. They are amazing and I am so thankful for their help! Wow, I'm not sure what happened to the other reviewer the day she went in, I'm wondering if she even went to the same salon I go to, but needless to say I have the opposite experience every time I go to Chrome, and I keep going back because of the nice service and expert precision haircut I get from Becky, who is the owner. It's sad, people are so quick to indelibly mark a place as bad with one 3 minute experience, and I have been multiple times and have a great experience every time. I get a professional haircut, a nice welcome, a great vibe and a good price. In fact, I have followed my stylist, Becky, all over town wherever she worked until she opened her own salon. When I saw this review I had to let people know it's just not an accurate description of the everyday experience there. Maybe she just got a bad employee, which can happen anywhere, and hopefully after seeing this review Becky will be able to coach the person to do better next time. I'm warmly welcomed and offered coffee or tea every time. I only lived in New York City for a few years and not a decade, so clearly not long enough to judge a salon as "cool enough" but all I know is every time I go I feel comfortable, at home, and not like I'm being sized up or judged about how I look, and I always leave feeling and looking great. I recommend the opposite of the last reviewer, and my experience is based on multiple visits, not just one 3 minute visit. Maybe ask for Becky? Most of the stylists have been in the business for more than a decade, and many of them are certified to teach at hair schools. These are master stylists who know what they are doing. I drive almost an hour to have Becky (the owner) cut my hair. I followed her from salon to salon until she bought this building and opened Chrome 3 years ago. Chrome did hair and makeup for all of the members of my bridal party. Becky was so easy to work with. Any time I had a question, she was always extremely prompt and helpful with her responses. Taylor, Jessica, and Shannon listened to all of my bridesmaids regarding hair style and makeup preferences and made them all look gorgeous. We had such a fun time hanging out in Chrome's bridal suite upstairs the morning of my wedding. The Chrome team kept us moving so that we were on time, and were so much fun to work with. I've been lucky to have salon owner Becky cut my hair for over a decade and she is a wizard with the clipper. Her attention to detail is unmatched. The Salon itself is clean and welcoming and the staff and stylists warm and welcoming. Pricing is in line with other salons in the area. WORST HAIR SALON EVER! I made a huge mistake coming here to get my hair dyed. The dye faded within a week, I tried to come back and get it fixed and they charged me. Becky's been my stylist for over 10 years now. I'm so happy she and John now have their own place! I've followed her to multiple locations and I would follow her to the ends of the earth. My husband and I along with our daughter and son go in for cuts every 6 weeks or so. I've never been disappointed in our experience! Becky ensures that you leave happy! Today I got an awesome haircut. Everyone welcomed me like I had been stopping in forever. Even though I was a first time client. The entire staff so sweet and friendly. I love my new haircut!! Decided to go in for a quick trim, however the hairdresser repeatedly messed up and kept cutting shorter and shorter. She never showed me how the back looked and when I got home, my family instantly noticed the mismatched lengths and ridge marks where blending was overlooked. I went back to Chrome for them to clean it up and the hairdresser argued with me! Very disgusted with the haircut and staff. Oh boy. Stopped in for a quick bang trim to test this place out knowing it's new. Always on a search for an edgy salon in Media and had hopes after seeing some reviews. Someone on a review page wrote that Chrome has a NYC vibe and twist. Having lived in New York City for over a decade, I can tell you that this place is faaaaarrr from anything that would pass as "cool" in any way in any city (or town!)- New York included . But, I can let bad music and cheezy pictures of stock photo haircuts on the wall go if the rest of the experience is even ok.... but it wasn't. $10 for a mediocre bang cut that took all of 3 minutes... no exaggeration. And the stylist had no interest in going above and beyond that 3 minutes - not even pleasantries in conversation, in fact no hello, how are you at all. Then when she told me $10 for the cut and pretty bad attitude (and smoke on her clothing smell), I thought this is it. I even asked again, "$10??? For that bang trim?" No way I'm going back after this brief "test drive". Drive on past Chrome. A real disappointment. read more
