ASADA TACOS- asada was just ok. asked us if we wanted topping. So we picked onions and cheese. They charged us for cheese.. $1.50 extra for like 2 TB of cheese over the 3 tacos. The food was decent, service was very friendly and the establishment was extremely clean. Fair prices and happy customers. For me though it was a good first time but nothing blew my mind. I give it a 4 star. Quirky decor, as mentioned in other reviews, helped push the rating a bit. Always fast, even when there is a line. Always friendly. There are tons of options to customize your food. I do love the selection. I will say that, as a vegetarian, the vegetables on the hot bar taste like they were from the frozen section. I had just read a raving review of this place and told my partner that we really needed to go ! So when I got off work Sunday, indeed we did. It was around 7pm, the entire restaurant was empty. We went up to the counter and waited several minutes before the workers quit chatting to greet us. The set up was very similar to chipotle - which I wasn't expecting all. I ordered a burrito with white rice, pinto beans, chicken, queso, onion, and pico. The burrito was HUGE - I honestly couldn't wait to dig in. However, the flavors were underwhelming. My rice wasn't cooked thoroughly. My chicken was dry. The queso was suuuper good (although I was unaware it costed extra). I would probably go back just for some queso and nachos. I also ordered an horchata - I heard theirs was pretty good and I am a fiend for horchata. It was honestly subpar. The aesthetic of the place was super pleasing, though ! It's like 50's diner meets 80's arcade meets little Mexican restaurant. In the front there were also hanging chairs with some cloud decor - I fell in love with them immediately ! We had a solid dinner here. It's essentially an independent version of a Chipotle or Qdoba, and I say that as a compliment. There were multiple options of what you could get and how you could get it. It was nice that picky eaters could limit what is added and others could load up on all the things. It was cool that they featured al pastor with pineapple and chorizo with potatoes. Those are combinations that you don't find most places. The decor is cute and the restaurant was clean. While I have not visited the actual restaurant, I have visited the taco truck they have had parked off 17th St recently (several times). It is always good, fresh and very satisfying. First off it was literally the size and weight of a newborn baby. Having moved to Bloomington from the coast of California, I have been searching for a decent "California-style" burrito for six years. Something NOT drenched in queso. Chubbies ended my search! I went to pick up lunch today for the first time. I ordered a carne asada burrito with pinto beans, rice, shredded cheese, and pico de gallo. It was GREAT. It made me so happy. The set up at Chubbies is exactly like the best burrito places on the west coast, you can see all the ingredients and tell them exactly what you want. My partner had a veggie burrito and loved it. Yes, I miss Bloomington Sandwich, who used to occupy that space, but Chubbies is terrific. 10/10 highly recommend. read more

This review will only be about the food and appearance of this place. I ordered three flour tacos with steak and salsa on top. I did not know what to expect when eating this meal. I was bedazzled. The food is good and I did not get much. If their tacos were this good with just two things on it- I can only imagine how good the rest of their menu is. I entered the restaurant, but I did not sit down. The ambience of the place is nice. They have these seat pods that hang from the ceiling that you can sit on. Their restaurant is small but it seems like a good place to sit down with friends and eat. All in all. I would recommend this place if you were to get Mexican food. Great food! Love their queso. It's better than Chipotle's queso. Their burritos are HUMONGOUS.

Never disappoints. The flavor is different from qdoba or chipotle...but well worth it. I have braces so that's the only reason why I didn't get the burritos. I will say I prefer their pork than their chicken. Can't go wrong with either or though. The staff seem to know not allot of English, mostly Spanish...but very nice when I was there. loved Chubbies!! The burritos were FAT & so tasty. There was many options for unlimited toppings & many protein options. I will say it was a little pricey, but not too much more than chipotle/qdoba. A plus that it is local and much more authentic. Really enjoyed eating inside, because the interior was a cool vibe. I hope this place takes off.
