Love, love, Chubby's Tacos. I'm there pretty much weekly. As a native Southern Californian, their tacos (and the guacatillo...mmm...) fill a need that no other place does! What's up with this place? Seriously, the employees always act like they have attitudes. I almost got knocked down by one floating out the door tonight. I ordered loaded nachos with protein. I also ordered extra protein. I open my box and I'm not sure what I paid for a half of an ounce of protein or an ounce. It looks like one serving, maybe 4 ounces without any extra. Before it's all said and done, almost $12 bucks for something that starts at $5.49 & $2.49 for protein. Adjust your servings, put the servings per extra on the menu, and leave your attitudes in the parking lot before you start work. This is not the first. finally! the Woodcroft Chubby's Tacos is open! hooray! you know, there's only a few things i truly miss from living in SoCal, and good hole-in-the-wall mexican food just around the corner is one of them. but now i have Chubby's. yes, the burritos are that good. it truly felt like i was back in my favorite taco shop in San Diego, complete with the obligatory feelings of bloatedness and shame for hours afterwards. these are NOT Chipotle burritos, folks. the tortilla has that homemade texture to it, the beans are lard-laden (or at least that's what i'm told gives them that awesome taste), and the rice is yellow. yummy! top it off with some of their terrific homemade salsas and it's just heaven. it really is. downsides? well, the location is small and the lines are long, but you can't blame a place for being immensely successful. i also wouldn't mind seeing a few more items on the menu (breakfast burritos, maybe), but that's just homesickness talking more than anything else. all in all, Chubby's successfully scratches that itch i've had for years, and i thank them. read more

Always check your to go orders because they are NEVER right. Forgot the chicken on my quesadilla. Do you think they made me a new one? No they sloppily put chicken in the old one. For a gross glop of mess not held together by cheese and already cut up. Okay food but always wrong / bad service. Sometimes the meat is great other times a dry chewy mess. Good food, terrible attitude. The food does not make up for it. The last few times we hsve been there, they treated us like they were doing us a favor when preparing our take out order. I love chubbys tacos food but this place does not have good food. Go to the ninth street location. Or any other location for that matter. And yeah the cashiers 'forgot' to give me ALL my food. So check your bag before leaving with take out. Also they have no clue what customer service is so don't expect any. I had the rude and maliciously happy cashiers today. I loved this place when it first opened and I still love this place many years later. While I have moved away, I still make it a point to stop by every time I'm in town. Their tacos are so good and so cheap! I especially love the tacos al pastor and barbacoa. Their quesadillas and chubbychangas are also quite good. They also have weekly specials that are quite tasty. Never again will I go to Chubby Tacos after my experience today. I ordered my food over the phone and the lady was very rude to me and hung up the phone before I was don speaking to her. When I arrived at Chubby Tacos I asked if I could have two extra salsa cups and the lady told me I could only have one (rudely.) I then checked my food and noticed that the beans had cheese on them, (I cannot eat cheese) after I told the lady I cannot eat cheese she said she would scrap the cheese off or she will have to charge me extra for the beans. I felt disrespected! If I tell you I cannot eat cheese, why would you have the nerve to tell me your going to scrap the cheese off or charge me?!? If what you want is fast, tasty, cheap Mexican food, Chubby's is hard to beat. I always get tacos and I always make them a meal with chips, salsa, black beans and a drink. As many others have mentioned, the salsa is delicious-- always fresh and flavorful. I generally get the carnitas tacos or the spicy chicken tinga tacos and I'm never disappointed. Yesterday 2/28/17 was my first time going here I ordered a quesadilla to go on my way to work but when I got there it was the wrong order. I called 3 times the first time I was put on hold for 5 min and the phone disconnected. I called two more times before someone answered. I was told to leave my first and last name to have it for free next time I went back. I was unable to go back that day but One of my employees said she was going on lunch brake and so I told her to ask for my quesadilla... all she needed to do was give my name but they refused to give it to her and she had to pay for another one. I called the restaurant spoke to the manager on duty Cindy Morales and I told them that two mistakes were enough and I asked for my refund. They took my card information and said it would be put back on my card. They just needed to find my order my number was taken and I was told I would get a call back. Later on I called back bc I didn't receive any phone call back. It does not take that long to get that done I should know I'm part of management for a restaurant also. So when I called back she didn't come to the phone and she didn't give me a call back.... so good job at your customer service being that she is the manager great example for your employees. With that kind of customer service you will keep losing customer at no time. I will be sure to share my experience with everyone I know. read more

Bad experience from even before you walk in. There are 2 different entrances that aren't marked as to main entrance. The set up inside is so confusing. Walked up to the front to order and once I figured out what I wanted, I realized that I am not actually in line, and a dozen people lined up infront of me that would have been behind me. After ordering my food I was given a Styrofoam cup and chips and a number... no tables to sit at. Finally find a place and notice everyone else has plastic cups. Ok, no big deal just curious. Food was tasteless but chewed up my stomach. Noticed that people were pushing dirty dishes out of their way to sit down and the people busing the tables took their sweet time to clear it. Because the food ripped up my stomach I am sent to the bathroom before I can leave. Automatic lights, cool? No! Doing my business on the toilet, lights go out. Pitch black!!!! No way to get the lights back on until out of the stall. Are you kidding??? I wanted to inform the manager so she realizes it is a problem. She didn't care. She had an attitude for the fact that I even asked to talk to her. Told her also about my confusion coming in... she made it sound like "stupid customers". Really? The stars are for the food, which is great. However, the customer service is appalling. Several times now, the company I work for has ordered food from here. It's hard enough to get the order across when the person you are speaking to does not have a half decent command of English. They read the order back to you and yes it is correct. Pick up the food and disaster...food missing every single time. Call them to try and sort it out....they give attitude and refuse to correct their mistake. My boss even went back there yesterday and got attitude and arguing and the girls at the desk even just started speaking Spanish to each-other in front of her....very rude!!! As much as we love the food, it isn't worth our time, trouble and money to order from here, so we will not be going there again. You would think they would be grateful for a large order, but I guess customer service is not their priority. read more

If I could give a "no-star" rating, I would. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the food is not the issue - I have been supporting this location since it opened, and the food has always been good. It has taken a downturn since the parnters split and the Roma family sold thier portion. But the service is truly atrocious. My last visit, they prepared my "to go" as a "here" order, and in the process of putting it in containters, dropped my side of rice. Now the container didn't open, but i really didn't want a container that had been rolling around on the floor of a commercial kitchen while the servers argued with the cooks.When I asked for a new container, they then argued with me. During this process, they totally forgot my order of queso and chips, which I didn't discover until I got home. The phone call with them and the response from the poor counter person the next day to refund the queso was just unbelievable. As someone up thread mentioned, just avoid this location. read more

I typically enjoy Chubby's for a quick bite of Mexican fare during lunch while I'm at work, however, the last two visits left little to make me want to return. My last visit here, I spent my entire lunch break listening to one of the employees talking loudly on the phone, despite another employee asking her to keep it down. Today, I ordered my meal and had the cashier plop a lid for my salsa down on the counter for me to pick up, which I consider to be so rude. Just to make sure, I asked another cashier for another lid . The first cashier turned around and picked up the lid she plopped down on the counter and said "HERE is the lid for your salsa." Then put it BACK on the counter instead of placing it into my outstretched hand. I advise Chubby's to evaluate the front employees or else they may lose a lot of business. I will say though, that there is one cashier with glasses who is ALWAYS as professional as can be. read more

They have delicious tacos and burritos. This is the closest to South West burrito you will get in NC. Their burrito is massive and just jammed full of flavors from fresh cilantro, roasted veggies and creamy dressing. You will be disappointed at all others after you try theirs. All this at a reasonable price very casual and small seating area you might see a business suit or two during lunch. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you with chips. They have a salsa bar there are about 7-8 types that are all quite good (some hot, not marked at all, so be careful). You won't see this selection and flavor at any national chain. I've also tried the fish taco, which is also delicious large piece of fresh fish. (MAPS) Menu- although a small chain individually owned restaurants, food is quite unique and VERY GOOD as far as NC goes. You will only beat it if you go out West. Ambiance- Not much of anything to write about it is casual with counter service with few tables to sit if you are lucky to get one. Price is Average for lunch it is cheep if you are eating dinner(same menu). Service- They keep the salsa bar filled and table tops clean they are pleasant high school age employees that take your order and bring you the food. read more
