We have been eating a Chubbys since they opened and were a small restaurant .. We had a bad meal 3 weeks ago it everyone has a bad night...then tonight was the last straw. It's obvious that they don't care about quality or service.. walked in before 9 and ordered a chicken dish, quesadilla and cheese dip..they said they were out of chicken and were not cooking anymore.. so agreed to try the steak. We love Chubby's Tacos! The food and drinks are plentiful and delicious. I almost always get the Chubby Changa with ground beef. It comes smothered in queso, tomatoes, lettuce, and peppers. My son loves the Portobello Burrito with rice, beans, and cheese. All orders start with fresh tortilla chips and many choices of salsas from the salsa bar. The walk up ordering is easy and fast. The service has always been friendly and accommodating. The bar is equally convenient and offers full service. There are not enough words to describe the vibe of Chubby's. So yummy! I had their Birria tacos and they were delicious. My husband had the Baja Fish and said it was perfect. A fabulous and fun spot!

What caught my attention at first was their outdoor seating, very spacious, comfortable seats/table and no sun suffering (shade and umbrellas)- it lived up to my expectations. Food-wise, their tacos are fantastic, double tortilla (so it doesn't break) and just the right amount of meat (I had three tacos and ended up over satisfied). Chips and salsa, a given. I hate giving 1 stars but I didn't have a good experience here. This was not what I expected and I love tacos. I went with 2 tacos and a fully topped order of nachos. The tacos were dry, everything about it. The meat was chunky and hard to chew. My jaw was hurting for a day because of the chewing. The al pastor was disappointing. It was chunks of flavored pork, which was nothing like I've had in the past. Unfortunately, I also topped the nachos with al pastor. As I am writing this review, it hurts me thinking about the experience. I ended up throwing most of my food away. No thanks! read more

By far the best! Salsa bar is on point! I always sit at the bar, so there is service there, however for the masses, your at pay and order at the door, grab your number and it's a free for all for seating. The outdoor patio is amazing! This time I ordered the spicy chicken tinga enchiladas... holy cow, flavor, flavor, flavor! The red sauce mixed with queso is the best! The plate came with rice and beans, all for $7! That's what I call a super bargain! There are multiple TVs for those that want to catch a beer and grab a taco or 12. The potties are always super clean, which is always important! We love their taco salads and were surprised to see they added bowls to their menu. I got the tofu bowl, which was yummy. A half-dozen different ones all labeled with heat level. I took some pico de gallo and rolled with it. Excellent. Four chips into it, my name was called and my three taco special was brought to my table. Rice? Good and light. Beans? Rich taste. The tacos were meaty and well topped. Chubby's is at the exact OPPOSITE end of that Mexican food spectrum: tasty, healthy, and bursting with flavors; can't wait to come back! The place is small and tucked away in the corner of a shopping plaza near Sushi Thai. Step inside and you'll probably find a line in front. The menu is pretty much tacos and burritos but boy, the food is good! In SF I ate quite a bit of mexican, taquerias abound in the Mission district. So I was so happy to see all the meat/filling options Chubbys had. The choices went from $2 tacos with the basic fillings all the way up to $4 with Mahi. I went with a couple of basic tilapia fish tacos in corn tortillas. When I took my first bite, all I can say is Wow! You tip your head back and roll your eyes up as you savor the mix of flavors and textures in that first bite. It's that good. Two tacos should be more than enough to keep you happy, I supplemented with a nice basket of chips and flavorful salsa. All I can say is while I love my old Fiesta Grill out in Carrboro, Chubby's might be even better. A bit lighter and flavorful, I'm hoping that Chubby's will someday open up another location closer to downtown Raleigh so I can be a regular. It can be hard to find authentic ethnic food in Raleigh so I'm really glad it's in the area. Way better than any other options I've found in Raleigh to date. Been coming here for years. They now add on a 3% credit card fee to in-restaurant purchases. Without notice! Nothing on the menu, nothing posted. You find out when you look at your receipt (which is not available to review prior to purchase). I spoke to the manager on site who said she was not aware of the charge (?). There was also a .49 cent up charge to get cheese on my taco, which I also was not given notice of, but at least I got something for that. They used to put cheese on for free. Super pricing, free chips with entree, salsa bar with lots of choices, vast menu, friendly & fast service. My ground beef tacos (I got two), were so tasty. Can only give 3 stars for Chubby's. Ordered takeout via Postmates on Saturday, 10/26 and while the food was packaged well, arrived on time & warm etc I didn't recall ordering food poisoning. Thankfully, it was only me who woke up vomiting at 1am. My partner ate carnitas tacos, chips n guac and a burrito with no issues. I had shrimp tacos, tilapia tacos, and a chicken taco salad and was not so well off.... We typically order enough for 2 nights but out of an abundance of caution all of the leftovers got trashed. So this new location off fall of neuse is pretty awful. The food is not great. It's like all Tex no mex. The meat was not seasoned and everything was watered down. The chicken was sweet when it was supposed to be spicy. The rice was mushy and bland. And the tacos were almost 5$. I would have felt better going to Taco Bell instead. I didn't take a picture but I wish I had. The ladies working there were angels and were very helpful and nice. But the food was straight up wack. Chubbys has gone mainstream and lost their sauce. They have no low tables and no regular chairs, only booths and hightops. I couldn't sit in their restaurant, so I left. No accommodations for people with mobility issues. Even an armless chair at the end of a booth would be helpful. Ironically Chubbys is not for chubbys. read more

I am all about supporting local restaurants during COVID, but my experience at Chubby's does not inspire me to go back any time soon. My family decided to get takeout for dinner, and we did so by using their online form to order ahead-- placed order before 3pm to pick up at 7pm. When we arrived at 7 we were made to wait an hour for our food. The restaurant did not prioritize scheduled orders over walk-ins, and people who walked in to order actually got their food faster than people who ordered ahead. After finally receiving our food, we found that part of our order was missing. Chubby's has good food, but it was most certainly not worth the wait. read more
