It's a shame that Andy Riemer sank this historic restaurant into the ground with horrible customer service trained employees. I've been going to Chuck Wagon for 40 years and have never been as disappointed as I was last night. I called to order food for my family and waited on hold (with the line open) for 8 minutes and 36 seconds. After receiving no acknowledgement, we decided to drive there. Walked in and sat down, waited for service, or at least a look in our direction. This didn't happen for over 20 minutes. So now with almost 30 minutes of our time wasted, we left. I counted 8 people behind the counter, some were looking at electeonics, not dealing with customers. This is a good way to burn the bridges of locals that keep these businesses alive. Someone could have said "hey we're really busy right now but here's a menu we'll get back to you soon". read more

I called at 4pm because I knew if I waited it would be a two hour wait. They said 45 minutes took my last name and phone number. We get there and they didn't have our order. They told us it was a two and a half hour wait for another pizza. I pushed and I told them it was their error and they needed to fix it now. If I had not pushed they would not have out a rush on the order. We still Had wait 25 minutes. At this point I feel like we should have gotten a discounted price or free for their error. They didn't. We visited here for the first time in a couple years after 2 consecutive bad service experiences after they were purchased by the owner of Stix and some other establishments. We hoped that they had the personnel issues and pizza making figured out. Our order was ready on time and the pizza looked good. The crust was cardboard like but the toppings, cheese and sauce were pretty good. That is until my wife bit into something odd. Upon inspection she found a piece of wire burried in the cheese and toppings. We immediately stopped eating and headed back to Chuckwagon. The staff called the manager who was off site. She asked if we could wait 10 minutes while she dry over to talk to us. She ascertained that the wire must have come from the can opener they use to open the mushrooms which at first sounded logical to us. Upon closer examination it does not look like it is part of a metal lid. It really looks like coiled wire. They gave us a full refund. We asked to talk to the restaurant manager so we could be assured this was figured out and that no one would be in danger eating this pizza in the future. She said the manager would give us a call the next day. We waited a day and a half without anyone reaching out. We texted the original woman that gave us the refund and she responded that the manager didn't have any answers other than that it was from the can opener and was getting a new one. This is a potentially very dangerous situation if someone were to swallow something like this. We have great concern that the issue may not be the can opener and there is extreme danger in eating pizza contaminated with whatever this is. We are reaching out to the Health Department but in the meantime do not recommend eating their pizza which we understand is also sold at Stix just up the street. The nonchalant attitude of the manager is quite concerning. You would hope they would be extremely aggressive in correcting this but we have not gotten that vibe at all. read more

I GET it's called a meat lovers but jeez,... the pizza was so weighed down with toppings and the crust was so soggy/tough that it wasn't good. Very disappointed in their customer service! My husband and I ordered pizza and breadsticks. We picked up the pizza and went home immediately and ate in a dark room. Within 5 minutes of eating we had dinner cleaned up and put in the fridge. The next day we found mold all over the breadsticks! I called and spoke to the manager who only said "there is no way your breadsticks could have been moldy because we make our breadsticks fresh everyday. I have never had a complaint like this. The only thing we can do for you is give you a free order of breadsticks the next time you come in." Chuck Wagon is a nIce little pizza/sub place with cold beer, good service, long waits, and generously topped, mediocre pizza , but it gets the job done when you're craving pizza. It reminds me of the old independent places that would pop up here and there...BEFORE the wood-fired, coal fired and other specialty pizza places we now have. It's hard to go back in time. CW will survive because they have little competition and it has a great location near the hungry campers from Ludington State Park. But for me, I knew when I saw the jarred mushrooms and bit into the crust, that this was not the place for me. THERE is a place for them, it just won't be my pizza place. I wish them well. read more

Chuck Wagon used to be the place to go to in Ludington for quality pizza. Not any more. The pizza we ordered today was mediocre to ok at best. We also ordered a large salad with ham which was definitely not a large. When I questioned this and asked for the manager, I was told she was not available. We found later that the salad was missing the ham which we paid for. I called and again asked for the manager and was told she is out till Wednesday. Good local spot. Pizza is nothing to write home about but gets the job done. Very generous portions when it comes to toppings and the cheese bread is good. One thing is for sure, this place is busy!!! Could be because there aren't many restaurants in the area or could be because people really enjoy the pizza! First of all, please note that the restaurant doesn't open until 4 pm daily! And when we arrived about 10 mins before opening so did about 4 other cars. So be prepared for them to be busy at opening on the weekends. Once you order a pizza will take 30 mins or longer based on how busy they are at the time. One table of two left when they we told it would be an hour for their pizza. We were quoted about 30-35 mins and that's what it took. This isn't the best pizza we've had but it was good. I wasn't a huge fan of the crust. It was very heavy, dense and a little tough. It seemed to taste better as it cooled some. There was lots of cheese, pepperoni, and sausage. Overall just good pizza in our book. If we were in the area, we'd might dine here again or get carryout. But if we had other options we'd take them first. read more

This pizza crust is not hand tossed or hand made as stated on the website. The crust is a premade disc like a cracker. One thing that i enjoyed was the sauce and a fare amount of cheese. Mushrooms dumped out of can and barely warm. Italian sausage had little to no flavor. We don't recommend this place for pizza. read more

Tried it a moment ago despite some questionable recent reviews. Went on a Thursday night at prime dinner time. Nothing negative about any aspect of the experience, even though it was a full house. Dining room and restroom were very clean, hostess was attentive and polite. Got our food in about 15-20 minutes. Not the best pizza I've ever had but it didn't need to be. Price was very reasonable. We were camping around the area and passed by this local pizza joint several times. When dinner time arrived, there were several places we were looking at but Chuck Wagon stood out with all of their photos that other people posted! Every single photo had consistently fully loaded pizzas and everyone raving about how flavorful and filling each bite is. The prices are fair and the wait time wasn't too long for us. The indoor seating is a bit limited so there might be some waiting, you can also order pick-up too, as a lot of other people were coming in and out with orders. It's pretty cool to see their crew roll out the dough near the front area, they definitely are experienced and committed. They do run out of menu items too, later in the night, so just prepare some back up order items. We ordered the Ham & Pineapple pizza and it was amazing. We had enough leftovers it became breakfast the next dat, and still tasted just as great. Not soggy or bland at all. They really do take pride in their pizza, amazing! read more

We ordered the family sized chef salad which was a joke, there is no way that a family could eat the salad we received...see the photos, our thoughts were we would have as a side salad with pizza and we would have salad left for lunch the following day, nope. It was barely enough for us to share as a side salad with our pizza, it was mostly shredded cheese and very little lettuce. In our opinion Hungry Howies, Mancinos, Papa Johns is better. Fantastic pizza place to visit when in Ludington! We ordered the Give Me the Meats pizza and wow it was loaded with toppings. My boyfriend joked it should be called Give Me the Meat Sweats! It was topped with a wide variety of meats and was a fantastic choice. It was delicious and exactly what we were looking for for a filling dinner! The sign caught my eye as I was driving by. I thought, this place must be special, they don't even need a name! As you can see by the picture, their sign says "PIZZA" OPEN AT 4 PM. I didn't see their name squished to the side. For one, there's no doubt as to when they open! They're located right across from the Lake View Cemetery. So I'm guessing they don't get much business from that part of the neighborhood. I'm assuming strictly delivery. Let's hope no walk ups. And don't get me going on why they need a view of the lake. I walked in to order and was immediately struck by how much stuff they put on the dough. Piles!! After seeing that, uh, I'll take a small. The girl who took my order said that it would be about 35 minutes. A gentleman who just got his order whispered, "it won't take that long". Hmm, we'll see. No fast food here. They don't bake their pizzas on one of those chain driven conveyor belts, no Sir. A real pizza oven is employed to bake these beauties. Holy Toledo...(I've been itching to use that line since I passed through that city a couple days back) this pizza looks gorgeous. Now, if it only tastes half as good as it looks, we're in business. Well, the gentleman previously mentioned, was right. It didn't take that long. Only 27 minutes. But what is time when you're retired. I was having fun listening to the workers conversations. Boy, was I getting the goods. As I was driving back to my motel, I realized that I forgot to ask for napkins. Fortunately, I had some left over from the pile the server at Chili's gave us. Crisis averted. The pizza was in fact, half as good as it looked. Don't get me wrong, it was still very tasty. I ate it all, but it was a little thing that kept the Chuck Wagon from garnering a fifth star. I ordered a bacon and onion. There was plenty of both, but they used chopped onions (like the kind you get on a hot dog) rather than sliced onion. Splitting hairs? Nope. There's a marked difference. Any pizza thrower who's worth their salt will tell you sliced is better than chopped. But hey, PIZZA OPEN AT 4 PM did a great job. Quick Tip: Look before you leap. New ownership, much the same chaos and not as good. We come to Ludington, MI once a year in July for 10 days to enjoy the weather, the beach and Chuck Wagon. After this evening, we likely won't return. They are still plenty busy and won't likely miss us. We know they are busy and got there a little after 4pm when they opened. We ordered mozzarella sticks and two pizzas, our normal yearly treat. 45 minutes or so later we get our first pizza, then our second one 5 minutes later. Usually we hope the bread sticks/mozzarella sticks come out first instead of after the main dish (this happened last year as well, the appetizer after the pizza). We ask about them after the second pizza and the waitress had to be reminded that we ordered them. Upon checking we are told that there was a printer issue and the order was lost....not all of it, just the mozzarella sticks somehow. We are asked if we still want them and are told it would only take 10 minutes. We agree to wait. Two different other servers try to give us our bill (it was busy Im sure they wanted us out), and we have to remind both we are still waiting on the mozzarella sticks. Finally 25+ minutes later, and more than an hour and 15 minutes since the order we got our mozzarella sticks. Turns out they were better tasting than the pizza which was over cooked and the crust was hard. To be fair in the end we weren't charged for the mozzarella sticks (hence 3 stars instead of 1). Luckily we were on vacation with no immediate plans so the nearly two hour time frame wasn't an issue. We'll try to find a new pizza place next year. read more

What a huge cluster Effin disaster this place was! We sat there after ordering for an hour and a half to be told they never put our pizza order in. The dining room was completely full of people and I sat there and watched them make one pizza right after another for carry out. Literally to the point they couldn't fit another pizza in the Hot N Hold while they completely disregarded the dining room clientele. I am in the restaurant foodservice industry my whole life and I am very patient with the current economic conditions with quality of labor and management but I would never go back to this place.
