We went there after a family trip to Guelph Lake. After seeing several promising options for food…read morein Guelph, and then realizing they were all out of business, we took a drive around and saw The Works. It looked pretty foolproof, burgers. So we gave it a shot. The Good: It was nice and clean, hardwood floors, open front so there was a lot of fresh air. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful and the menu!!! There used to be a place in Toronto called The Yellow Griffin with a similar concept of multiple burgers with interesting toppings, sadly their quality dropped under new management and the eventually went under, i had been looking for a similar type place with great quality and here it was! The food arrived pretty quickly and boy was it good! I had the Malibu Melt ( I think it was called) a burger with three cheeses and an onion ring to hold it all together with a side of Onion rings. Delicious and satisfying, I would go back there in a heartbeat! The Bad: i have to go all the way to Guelph for this one, but there are two locations in Toronto. The Ugly: I really have nothing. Good Job guys!

The next time I tried the blue cheese one... It was also very good... But I think I liked the first one. It's the one on the third level... Kind of wild toppings. I just remember it had maple flavor... And I want to see fried cheese curds on it or something. Sorry I should've written it down. Anyway you'll enjoy this place. Feels kind of like a college hang out. On both nights, the server was very attentive. Check them out they're worth it.

The Works - Slow for dinner during the week... I'm assuming they have a stronger lunchtime. This was a nice place.

I've come here twice and I haven't been disappointed yet…read more There's so many choices that it might be a bit overwhelming but everyone is very helpful with suggestions. If you want to try something new or if you want to stick by your old favourites, there's something for everyone. The first time I was here, I decided to try something new. I had the seitan platter which was the perfect introduction. The seitan was cooked in four different styles so it was great to see which type you like. The second time, I just had a seitan appetizer which looked like a good imitation of roasted duck but it had a smooth texture and it was flavoured well. Keep in mind that the portions after the appetizers are big. You can either share it or have some to yourself but regardless, there is a chance you might take some home. No complaints though. Both times I have ordered fried rice with different toppings that are mixed in with the rice. I love the way they make this because they don't cook it like other restaurants where they fry the rice and you feel bloated and heavy. Zen' drive is cooked perfectly so you don't taste that fried feeling and though you will get that filled feeling, you won't feel lethargic after. I also order tea both times. My recommendation is the rose tea. The teapot is so small and cute but you can smell the tea and it leaves you feeling relaxed. Side tidbit: the place is a legit house but they converted it into a restaurant. They kept some of the features like a fireplace that give it a cozy/homey feel. It is such a cute and ingenious way to go about a restaurant business.

Unlike the Toronto area that has night owl establishments prepandemic open from 11pm to 2am, Guelph does not offer these services. So one of the few places open was this establishment, when you walk in, you're invited by a hot serve bench, ayce options starting at $4 (if you est two kinds it goes up to $5 and incrementally increases by $1 with more selection. I did not try this. There are some seatings around for 2 and 4 patrons. We ordered the red bbq pork with pineapple and baby bok choy with rice. The rice tastes like it was recooked from yesterday (not spoiled but certainly would not last night -could be from sitting on the rice cooker all evening), the bok choy some had some...squishy sides and it could just be bruising from handling, it was garlicky and slightly over cooked. The red bbq was edible, more on the sweet side. The whole variety came up to be $20 easily feeding 3 to 4 people. I am an Asian patron, ordered in english, maybe I'll try in Cantonese next time? Its definitely a hidden gem if you're looking for a $4 bite that's an ayce Canadian-Chinese, as an alternative to pizza, burgers, poutine, sandwiches... Oh yes they seem to have signage that they take University of Guelph meal plan.
