We bought a voucher off Groupon, it gives you the option of either 2 hours with a tour or 3 hours going solo. We decided to go solo although the tour guide gave us the option of doing the tour. Before going in the water he showed us how to use and balance the kayak. We ended up going from Chula vista to coronado and back within the 3 hours.

Harry is a god! He is the best tour guide ever!

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Fun outing with experienced staff…read more We got to the store early and got fitted with life vests and helmets. They sell a good variety of clothing and accessories, and we decided to get some eyeglass leashes. After stowing our stuff in the free lockers, we met our group on the beach a short walk away. We were a group of 3 tandem kayaks, led by Ciro, a very experienced and knowledgeable guide. Kayaking along the coast and into some actual sea caves was exhilarating, as was wiping out on the way back in, which apparent is quite common. We did well on our way out, but one couple capsized both on the way out and in. I's not the end of the world if you do, as there are staff to help you on both ends. Afterwards Ciro provided a foot bath to rinse off our sandy feet, with was a nice touch. We had a great time; would definitely seek them out again should we want another outing.

They had us introduce ourselves and gave the large group a quick lesson and tips before our kayak was pushed out. Safety was a big priority as we paddled into the caves and they talked us through the process before heading in. The store was cute and you can purchase accessories such as a waterproof phone case to take pictures. Totally enjoyed the tour and highly recommend!!

The National City Aquatic Center is a hidden gem in this part of town! Often, people forget that…read moreNational City is also "waterfront"! The Port of San Diego has done a great job of making this area seem less "industrial" with not just cargo ship unloading, transport hubs, and shipyard maintenance but rather areas that families and the general public can come enjoy. In particular, this review is of the Multi-Purpose Room at the Aquatic Center. A lot of my guests were quite surprised and impressed with the building (built in 2018) and this facility as an event rental space. I even had a few inquiries asking how much I paid. FYI- it was only ~$300 for 6 hours + the price of a security guard. We held my twins' 1st birthday party here. The facility comes equipped with a half kitchen (no refrigeration or kitchen, just a sink), clean private bathroom/locker facilities, tables/chairs for ~80 guests (room can definitely fit a little more), floor to ceiling windows, a TV with Blue Ray Player and access to streaming (you provide the internet), access to Pepper Park, and ample parking. You can also pay extra for reserved parking, custodial maintenance, and more security if needed. Genevieve and Sheila with the Port Facilities reservations department were a pleasure to work with - they were responsive, answered my questions, and were patient with some of our requests. They also allow all vendors, provided they have proper insurance, and do not require usage of any sort of preferred list. My only gripe is that because there's no separate kitchen facility, you'll need to plan your catering in order to keep food stocked and warm/cold. There's a little outdoor space that looks like a fenced in yard-- they should consider turning that into a kitchenette. I'd pay extra to use that. One of the highlights is that there's a great view of the sunset over the coast that many of my guests got to enjoy toward the end of the party. A nice treat for a crisp fall evening! There's a marina, parks, a hotel, and restaurants in this general area west of the 5 freeway. Highly recommend considering this venue for any smaller events. You can always spill into Pepper Park if you need more space.

I also follow National City, and noticed they offered youth summer camps for rowing, kayaking, and SUP. Talking with Dave Frost, the contact for Community Rowing SD, National City is primed to start their own rowing club. He was excited to hear we found them and looks forward to growth in the coming years for the area. I have always wanted to try rowing out and am glad I did. Coach Aly was a blast to work with. She took me and a friend out on single sculls and followed us in a kayak, offering us encouragement and suggestions. She's an athlete through and through and was an easy conversationalist with and enthusiasm for all sports. I'm excited for what the aquatic center will offer in the coming years as the South Bay doesn't have much yet and would be an awesome place to get something running. Signing my niece and nephew up for rowing lessons and look forward to seeing them get a taste of the scene.

Highly recommend whether you're a local or tourist!! they have group classes for kayaks (2 person…read moreor 1 person), surf lessons and snorkeling lessons. We did the 2 person kayak and originally booked through TripAdvisor but next time, we'll book directly through them after realizing they're a local company. It was around $100 for our 2 person kayak which seemed reasonable for a quick day date. Make sure you're 30 minutes before your booking time so you can check in and get supplies for your activity. For kayaking, it was a 90 min event and it's helpful to wear a swimsuit since you'll get wet and have a chance to swim. They took us through parts by the coast and we got to see lots of different fish and sea lions. Tip; make sure to bring water proof, floating bag for your phone since lockers can be $6 and I wish we would have brought our GoPro for the underwater views. The tour guides Thomas and Spencer were knowledgeable and helpful. We had a few guys who were in our tour that kept going overboard and the guides were patient with them even as the guys got a little annoying with their kayak intentionally tipping a few times. Overall, I'm really glad we went and will be back for other activities with friends and family.

I found out from a friend that I could book kayaks on ClassPass, so I jumped at the opportunity…read more I've been in San Diego for several years, but have not spent much time on the water. The reservation process was easy, and we signed a waiver prior to coming to the shop. The guys at the shop were super friendly and got us oriented to the water quickly. We had a 10:15 am reservation and they were not busy at that time. My only small gripe is that I wish their website had more information about what to wear to go kayaking. They had wetsuits for rent and waterproof pouches for sale, but my friend and I made do with what we wore, and we were ok. This may be very obvious to people who kayak, but for newcomers like me, you need to walk into the ocean to get into your kayak, so you will at minimum get wet from the waist down. You get your life jackets at the shop, then walk a block down to the ocean where there are more employees that get you set up with the kayak. The worker at the beach reinforced what the guys at the shop told us, pointing out lifeguards and landmarks in the water, before showing us how to paddle. Once we were ready, he dragged our kayak out into the surf and held it steady as we climbed in. With a strong shove, we were off! Our rental was for 1.5 hours and we had a really good time! Despite never kayaking before, we quickly figured out how to paddle and steer, and even as two girls with noodle arms, there was less resistance than expected. We thought we would end before our scheduled time was up, but we found ourselves floating and vibing till the last minute. It was really fun being rushed on shore by the waves, and I was sad to get off the kayak. I checked the price online if I were to rent from them directly, and it was about $45 for a double kayak. I wish they would just list their prices directly on their website, instead of requiring us to click in to the reservations page and seeing the price upon checkout. Maybe they do different pricing at different times. Still, I would definitely check for a Groupon or something, and do this activity again.

Our boards didn't seem to be in the best shape, all 3 of them would frequently submerge in water. I've never experienced that with other SUP rentals. This is a wake zone so boats will constantly be coming to and fro on top of the tides (which are understandably uncontrollable) so it made for a challenging time. The individual who set us up was going to give our friend who hasn't paddleboarded before a very quick run down, but got distracted by other people inquiring so we were left a bit puzzled to take off by ourselves We also requested only one hour, but when pricing was requested, the two hour rate was requested. I took the individuals word so we went ahead and paid, but I realized after the fact that it was for 2 hours and so they said they couldn't refund us right there and then, but if we were to just take an hour we could reach back out, but it seemed a bit burdensome

Once meeting Vicki, we were offered different size boards, waterproof cell phone cases, life vests and a waste belt. She didn't restrict where we could go in the water either. We were free to wander and wander we did. It was choppy waters and boats were everywhere, but we loved it. I highly recommend this company to anyone!
