Highly recommend whether you're a local or tourist!! they have group classes for kayaks (2 person or 1 person), surf lessons and snorkeling lessons. We did the 2 person kayak and originally booked through TripAdvisor but next time, we'll book directly through them after realizing they're a local company. It was around $100 for our 2 person kayak which seemed reasonable for a quick day date. Make sure you're 30 minutes before your booking time so you can check in and get supplies for your activity. For kayaking, it was a 90 min event and it's helpful to wear a swimsuit since you'll get wet and have a chance to swim. They took us through parts by the coast and we got to see lots of different fish and sea lions. Tip; make sure to bring water proof, floating bag for your phone since lockers can be $6 and I wish we would have brought our GoPro for the underwater views. The tour guides Thomas and Spencer were knowledgeable and helpful. We had a few guys who were in our tour that kept going overboard and the guides were patient with them even as the guys got a little annoying with their kayak intentionally tipping a few times. Overall, I'm really glad we went and will be back for other activities with friends and family. read more

I found out from a friend that I could book kayaks on ClassPass, so I jumped at the opportunity. I've been in San Diego for several years, but have not spent much time on the water. The reservation process was easy, and we signed a waiver prior to coming to the shop. The guys at the shop were super friendly and got us oriented to the water quickly. We had a 10:15 am reservation and they were not busy at that time. My only small gripe is that I wish their website had more information about what to wear to go kayaking. They had wetsuits for rent and waterproof pouches for sale, but my friend and I made do with what we wore, and we were ok. This may be very obvious to people who kayak, but for newcomers like me, you need to walk into the ocean to get into your kayak, so you will at minimum get wet from the waist down. You get your life jackets at the shop, then walk a block down to the ocean where there are more employees that get you set up with the kayak. The worker at the beach reinforced what the guys at the shop told us, pointing out lifeguards and landmarks in the water, before showing us how to paddle. Once we were ready, he dragged our kayak out into the surf and held it steady as we climbed in. With a strong shove, we were off! Our rental was for 1.5 hours and we had a really good time! Despite never kayaking before, we quickly figured out how to paddle and steer, and even as two girls with noodle arms, there was less resistance than expected. We thought we would end before our scheduled time was up, but we found ourselves floating and vibing till the last minute. It was really fun being rushed on shore by the waves, and I was sad to get off the kayak. I checked the price online if I were to rent from them directly, and it was about $45 for a double kayak. I wish they would just list their prices directly on their website, instead of requiring us to click in to the reservations page and seeing the price upon checkout. Maybe they do different pricing at different times. Still, I would definitely check for a Groupon or something, and do this activity again. read more

It was our honeymoon and we booked a sea cave kayak tour. We enjoyed crystal clear waters with hundreds of leopard sharks in our group of four double kayaks. Our guide (Reed) was fun and knowledgeable with information on the area and shoreline features as we made our way to the cave. He then elected to take two of our double kayaks at a time into the cave (with him swimming between the two). After waiting for the right moment, the first group entered, saw the cave and successfully retreated to open water with his guidance. If I remember correctly, small applause was had. We were the second group to enter with two double kayaks. We made it halfway through the cave and a giant wave pushed through forcing all of us off our kayaks and swept out through the rear side of the cave. Kayaks and ores were in random places. Fortunately, water was shallow, but that also forced all of us and our guide (the only wetsuited person) to endure multiple cuts and bleeding on our legs, feet, and lower abdomen. Reed, our guide, only sustained injury to his feet, he told us. We were all so fortunate not to break bones or hurt our heads. Everyone looked to ensure each other was alright. The other couple we were with admitted right before we entered the cave that the guy in their kayak could not swim. This group quickly found shore on the backside of the cave and elected to stay put. Prior to their election to stay put, Reed helped my wife and I by swimming out of the cove on the backside of the cave while holding onto our raft. He helped us get on safely, but we overturned again when a wave hit us. He helped us get into the kayak and make it through the last set of rolling waves. We paddled hard against the surf to get out and eventually meet the first two kayakers, who were wondering if we were alright. After ensuring the stranded kayakers were going to be alright, Reed swam out of the cove to retrieve his kayak and had us all wave our paddles for lifeguard assistance. A wave runner came about 20 minutes later and took our stranded kayakers to shore, leaving Reed to carry their kayak in tow. All of us paddled back to shore from there, really in shock by what happened. I don't think the shock wore off for several hours, really. I'm so proud of my wife and I for staying calm, patient, communicating and always looking out for each other's interests favoring safety at all times, when we were really forced to by nature. Reed called us "badasses" for what we did. We left with mixed reactions and my wife was pretty traumatized by the experience in the end. We told Reed that the wave wasn't his fault. However, in clearer reflection, removed from the situation, we want Everyday California to note the following: 1) People sign waivers all the time without reading them. That's definitely their fault. That said, when getting everyone checked in, in addition to (if not instead of), have your guy at the front desk double and triple check everyone can swim in person. If they can't, please don't take their money! Please be kind to them and tell them they cannot participate. Knowing at the last minute before entering the cave that one guy could not swim was a little intimidating (especially how it played out). 2) As much as Reed wasn't responsible for the waves coming in the cave, your guides are being trusted to understand safe circumstances for those of us who don't understand the tides as well. We are tourists. Every single one of us would have been happy with looking at the cave from the outside and would have been happy with a $40 (arbitrarily) refund for not having the opportunity to enter if it was unsafe. We entered on trusting him. Our trust was ruined quickly based upon his knowledge of the situation on that one tour. All it takes is once for someone to get hurt. Please make better judgment going forward on that. 3) We felt like care for our cuts (and we had many of them) was mediocre. When we arrived on shore, Reed helped us dock our kayaks and then we walked all cut up three blocks to the business site. Other kayakers looking to get into the water asked us if this happened to us kayaking. We had to be honest... Upon arrival, they were just going behind the doors to get their medical equipment, had limited towels to help us and really felt slow in response. At best, we felt mediocre in our care and concern. A few days later, we are still scraped up, slightly bruised and hurt in basic leg movement to start our day. It could have been worse...It also could have been much safer and consequentially fully enjoyable. I can't say that it was, sadly... read more

I'm so glad I booked this last minute adventure, definitely worth it. I have been kayaking before but never in the ocean, the waves made everything a bit more fun. Our tour guides were Elizabeth and Louie, they were Awesome! They were very knowledgeable, I loved hearing stories about different sites you see while on the tour as well as marine life. They also made us feel very safe. The water was a little nippy and I'm a baby so I did get a wetsuit they offered for an extra fee, although my partner was fine without. They do have lockers you can rent as well. The cavern was beautiful and we got to see lots of baby sea lions (or seals idk) I will be back next time I come to San Diego! read more

They give you wetsuit to wear and you will get wet fyi. We weren't prepare for it so didn't wear swim bottoms. The guide was super nice and patient with the group. They also have a location in Huntington Beach, which is great to know if you're elsewhere in SoCal. They offer tours, surf lessons, and rentals for kayaks, paddle boards, snorkel gear, and surfboards. The package deals are excellent and totally worth it. If you're a water lover, this is absolutely the place to go. I stop into this store every year when I'm in La Jolla, and it never disappoints. Amazing experience! As a first timer on the water, petrified of the Ocean, Sawyer and Kevin were incredible guides! They explained complex ocean ecosystems, had lighthearted jokes to keep the group entertained and paying attention to safety, and they were there to keep us safe! What a great and exciting kayaking experience! We booked this through Airbnb and everything was ready for us when we arrived. We came 30 minutes early (highly recommend arriving early since they will leave without you). The experience itself was about 1 hour and 30 minutes, where they took us out to a cove. Everything went smoothly, and thanks to Jordan and Josiah we were well taken care of. We were also very fortunate to see dolphins, a baby whale, and tiger sharks--all on our short trip! You meet in the shop first and purchase what you want, we rented wetsuits and a locker and I had a waterproof bag already for my phone. You suit up and get your helmet and life jacket and then you all walk to the beach as a group once ready. Colby and Cat were our 2 guides and super knowledgeable and fun!! They take you out to the caves and as long as weather permits you are able to go inside. We saw tiger sharks, a stingray, seals etc. The prices are so reasonable for what you get as well. We lucked up and got a last minute spot at 0930 hours on a holiday Friday. There are tandem and single options and tours with snorkeling. We just did a tandem without the snorkeling. The instructions were helpful on where to park and what to bring. They have lockers on sight but if you want to take loose items, like your phone or glasses, be prepared for it to get wet or lost if not secured. We bought a phone case and glasses band, but would've gotten them cheaper somewhere else if we had known. You'll wear a helmet so you may want to bring something for your hair. Wear plenty of sunscreen and bring some water. Our day was beautiful, not too hot or cold and the water was clear, so we got to see a lot of marine life even without snorkeling. The views from the Pacific are breathtaking in all directions. There are frequent stops for those who don't want to be constantly rowing for an hour. There are lots of tours going on at the same time so some stops are crowded. Our tour guides Lydia and Addy were helpful comedic and knowledgeable. They remembered everyone's name and kept a watch out for everyone. We would definitely take the tour again and it is a great outdoor activity. You'll get wet so bring a towel and/or a change of clothes for the ride home. read more

Everyday California is the best!! I had a voucher that was a few years old, but they were so accommodating and let me use it. I signed up for the kayak and snorkel tour and it was such a beautiful day out. Lydia and Kian were such great tour guides and helpers. My bf had really bad motion sickness (despite taking medicine before), and they were both incredibly helpful and kind throughout it all. Wishing them happiness and success :) Tips: 1) come at least an hour early prior to your listed time! You need to find street parking in the residential areas so that takes a moment and you need to walk to the store. You will then get checked in and offered add ons such as a wet suit and a locker. It will take time trying on the wet suit and finding the size for you and just sorting out your things before you head out. (I only got to the store 30 min prior and it was a mess and I felt bad for everyone in my group) 2) Get a wetsuit!! We went mid June with the UV at 11 but the water is still really cold. Bring your own or rent one there! 3) Sunscreen everything!! I'm dumb and didn't sunscreen my feet or hands and now I look stupid with these tan lines lol so once again come early so u have time to sunscreen! 4) If you're coming for a tour, get ready to work those arms. I workout daily but I was still in pain (I'm probably just weak) so be prepared to get a workout in!! They were really accommodating even though my party was running late, which they us know this was only possible because it was winter season and there wasn't back to back tours for the day. We were ok without wet suits in 60 ish degree weather and partly sunny skies. Would recommend them if it's colder or overcast. T they also have phone covers for purchase. This was such a good time! Our tour guides name was Catalina and she's the best! She has so much knowledge about the environment and wildlife in the area. You know when you meet someone at work and you can tell they genuinely love what they do? That is her. We selected the kayaking and snorkeling tour. The tide was a littleeeee rough so we were warned against going into the caves. Sucked but it's nice knowing you're in good hands when your guide cares. We person who was not a part of the tour swim up scared and Catalina had her hold on to the boat and explained the tides and currents to her and calmed her down. For what you get the price isn't bad. Being the area I expected to pay a lot more. Wet suit rental were only like $12 I believe. Either way if you're visiting La Jolla/San Diego I highly recommend. And although I can't speak for all their employees I can say everyone was so nice and Catalina is a guaranteed good time! read more

Amazing Experience I've always wanted to try kayaking in the caves. So I was beyond excited when I found Groupon tickets for this ! I've never kayaked before and am so grateful they offer tours with guides to help you along the way. We had the awesome Kaston and Sophia. They remained calm, confident, helpful and cracked a few jokes during our tour. They explained everything clearly and were overall so cool. We got to tour the caves and it was so beautiful. Even learned a few new facts about the area. Sophia helped a few of the people from our group when they flipped over and she celebrated everybody at the end saying "we all survived!! Let me start off by saying that the amazing customer service from leadership begins at the top and is shown consistently all the way down to the storefront staff. I cannot sing their praise enough. From booking the tour, to check in, and the tour itself. Everything was extremely high quality, and they definitely prioritized the safety of our group which was important because we had kids. We felt safe and looked after by Lauren and Reed the whole time on the water. Besides the tour itself, interacting with Devin in the shop really made an impact on our experience. She was thrilled to have us doing the tour and made sure all of the kids in our group were well taken care of. She went above and beyond. We had a slight hiccup with a couple of waivers and her front staff immediately got on it assisting us in the best way possible so that we could streamline the process in a more efficient manner. And they had no problem doing it! It was really amazing to see the teamwork not only among them, but with their customers as well. Also, i want to point out that the owner is really involved in the community working with nonprofits around San Diego, doing his part to provide access to water sports for underserved communities, which not a lot of business' can say. Our experience getting Surf lessons were great. Booking was easy online. Check in the morning of was very organized and smooth. The equipment provided (wet suits and surf boards) fit well and were good quality. The spot we were set up on at the beach was perfect for us beginners with no experience. Lots of easy waves to catch. Our instructor Pandora was very friendly and helped us get ready and out riding our first waves in no time. She was attentive to us (me and my two kids 9 & 11) the whole time making sure we were catching waves, encouraging us and giving guidance on how to make adjustments. Great snorkeling adventure with Landon! We had a fantastic time on our snorkeling tour with Landon. With any nature-based experience, nothing is ever guaranteed, but Landon made it memorable by sharing his deep knowledge of the La Jolla Shores ecosystem. We were lucky to see some aquatic life, which made it even better! Safety was a top priority. Landon checked in with us often to ensure we were comfortable and feeling good throughout the experience. Booked a last minute kayak and snorkel trip for my brother & I while visiting San Diego and we had such a great time! The staff was so friendly and accommodating and happy to answer any questions we had. All gear comes with the rental and they have wetsuits and lockers available for additional purchase. We went without wetsuits and I have to say if I were to do this again I would rent one, the water is cold once you've been in it for awhile! Our two guides, Brady & Catalina were so knowledgeable and made us feel like we were in great hands the entire time we were on the water. The snorkeling was fun but we didn't see much outside of lots of fish. The guides were great about pointing things out to us along the way. My only wish is that the company offered some kind of photo package you could add onto the tour. We had such a cool adventure but because we were in kayaks and couldn't bring our phones we have no photos of the experience. Be aware that you will get wet during this activity, I suggest renting the wetsuits they offer, because I regretted the drive back home due to being cold and soaked. Had a great experience doing the cave Kayaking tour with Sophia and Colby. Both guides were engaging and enthusiastic that worked well at creating a cool vibe. Wish there were options for picture taking, but would have to buy an additional phone protector to take our own photos.
