The first time I heard about this place was a few years after it had opened up and I needed to…read morecomplete 30+ hours of community service in order to graduate from high school. I think at the time, 2003 or so, I was a sophomore and I was catching up on those community service hours (on top of it, I know). I remember I had to do a lot of trash pick up and cleaning up graffiti. Aside from that, in these last couple of years, I frequent the recreation center to play basketball (indoor). Their basket ball gym is so cool! First of all, its air conditioned. Second, they always music playing. And, finally, they have a total of 6 hoops. Two main ones and two on each side. However, sometimes they might have only a few down. It just depends. There's definitely regulars here who come in the afternoon to play five on five. Te best times to come are usually the first three hours after its opened. Its dead during the first couple of hours. Honestly, I love this place to shoot around, practice, relax and get away for a bit from everything. Built in 2000, the Otay Recreation Center includes a gymnasium, game room, patio, and a fitness center. The programs offered at the Otay Recreation Center accommodates a wide array of participants, ranging from toddlers to youth to senior citizens. The center contains a wide-spectrum of activities as well. The fitness center, which requires a membership, contains a variety of state-of-the-art equipment, including cardio machines, free weights, and weight lifting machines. The game room is open during our normal hours of operation for drop in play and consists of pool tables, foosball tables, a ping-pong table, and more. While the venue appears a bit older, if does seem to be well maintained overall. They also have a good size weights/fitness area, something I haven't seen, or better, than in the few other Chula Vista rec centers I've been to.

It's a fairly large location and felt pretty well organized, which made it easy to look around without feeling overwhelmed. There was a good amount of variety, so it worked just as well for a short walk through as it would for a longer treasure hunt. Even though I only stopped in once, it was still enjoyable to browse and see what unexpected finds might pop up. It's a good option if you like thrifting and happen to be nearby.

Two things I did not like though;…read more1; I felt very rushed because the appointments were only an hour long, and I did have to ask for an extra 30 minutes. I think the appointment time should be two hours long, I only got to shop for dresses once and the rest of the time my mom and my MOH just kept bringing me dresses. It was a very rushed process and it was very busy and I don't feel like the dressing rooms. Are that big and should definitely be bigger. Also, there were two men in the dressing room when I first got there and was trying on dresses and one guy was standing right across from my dressing room, and I felt very uncomfortable with him standing there as I was half naked behind the curtain and my girls kept bringing me dresses in and out so obviously the curtain had to be opened a lot, and it was just very nerve-racking that a guy was in there. The men need to stay away, including Dad's! Just my opinion. If a guy wants to come with his bride to pick dresses like this guy seem to be then they need to like stay inside the dressing room with her not be out in the middle of the whole dressing area. Other than that, I will say they had a lot of options to choose from lots of different styles lots of different sizes and I definitely found my dress, but I still felt rushed and kind of wish. I didn't rush so much and had a chance to look at more.

Came here for the Youth Empowerment Summit 2009. Essentially, it was a concert followed by…read moreworkshops, lunch and raffles for Foster Children/Youth. I had the pleasure of volunteering here to teach Non-Violent Conflict Resolution to a small group of teens. My friends and I taught meditation and held a Native American styled council with talking piece. I felt sincerely humbled to connect with these kids. And to be able to relate right back at them, keeping it real made for an incredible experience. This youth is on point for way more than I gave them credit. We also had the great treat to paint a huge canvassed mural with all the kids. It came out great and will be placed soon. Performers included: Paula DeAnda and Baby Bash (that "Suga how you get so high" song) and Frankie J. They had the whole place up and bouncing!! They were even kind enough to take pictures with anyone who asked.
