I am a huge pretzel fan. There are two major pretzel chains that I like: Auntie Anne's and Mr…read morePretzels. In Canada, Auntie Anne's hasn't done so well. Markham used to have one, but it was short-lived. However, Mr Pretzels seems to do well here. I was planning on getting popcorn at Kernels Popcorn, but the lineup was long. I looked a couple of stores down from it and saw Mr Pretzels. It has a shorter lineup and getting a pretzel dog seemed like a good snack. The soft pretzels looked good. I saw a woman with hers, so I decided to get a pretzel dog (my standard) and a salted soft pretzel. I had a helpful woman take my order. She talked to her co-workers and advised me that the pretzel dog would take five minutes to make. I was good with it. She asked whether I wanted a drink or dipping sauces. I declined. She also asked me whether I wanted my salted pretzel first or together with my pretzel dog. I gave her the option and she decided to hand over my salted pretzel first. It smelled so good. I'm glad that she did, as I got the chance to take a photo of it. You basically wait for your order on the left side of the counter. The right is where the orders are taken. It makes sense because the menu is over there. Communication is excellent here. The man making my pretzel dog advised that it would be a minute to hand it over. I appreciated that added touch. He also asked if I wanted any mustard or ketchup. I asked for ketchup and thanked him. I was salivating holding my carby items. I decided to sit where the fireplace was in the mall, but without the fire. It had labels to not sit there, but I ignored them because I was hungry and there weren't any places to sit down at this mall. I had the salted pretzel. So good! Chewy and soft. The salt was perfect with the melted, brushed butter that made the salt adhere to the pretzel. I then had the pretzel dog. It was yummy. I loved the pretzel dough wrapped neatly around a perfectly plump hot dog. I was so happy. Yum! Staff made sure that you get napkins with your pretzel items. Their attention to detail was refreshing. You can get combos here, which is really a drink added to your pretzel. There are also mini pretzel bites and pretzel dog bites that you can order. I had an excellent experience. The preztels were delicious. I appreciated the customer service and great communication skills. (402)

It's our first time here at Tian Ya BBQ which is a decent Korean-style AYCE BBQ restaurant in Barrie. We usually go to ones in Markham and/or North York. Their fried spring rolls and scallops (4/5) were delicious with a good crisp on the outside, giving you a crunch with every bite. The spring rolls could use some more filling. The Volcano Roll was enjoyable (3.5/5). We liked how they had fried batter on the outside to elevate the texture of the dish. The cream cheese was a delight. The portions were big. The actual Korean-style BBQ was okay (3/5). The kimchi was a bit salty for us. We were hoping it would have more of the tangy, fermented taste to it as well. We liked that it was crunchy and tasted fresh. Their lettuce was also fresh. They did use iceberg lettuce instead of romaine which was different from what we regularly have at other places. We had pork, beef, beef short ribs and squid for grilling. Both the pork and beef were thinly sliced and tender. The beef short ribs were marinated well. Maybe a bit more sesame oil, garlic and ginger to the marinade mixture would really help bring out the sweetness and the umami of the meat. The cuts were okay; the meats could have been balanced with some fat/marbling to keep them juicy. We were also looking to have some ssamjang (fermented soybean paste) and sesame oil with salt to go with the meat. Overall, an okay place to go for AYCE Korean BBQ in Barrie.
