1st time here and will avoid it like the plague in the future. Cool looking spot - clean and comfortable. Went in and there were only a couple others at the bar. Bartender was a grumpy gal. No small talk, no hello guys how are you, nothing but do you want a drink. Whatever. Ordered 2 apps - Thai Shrimp and Chicken Parm Sliders. The shrimp were breaded well, but thats where "well" ends. They were obviously frozen out of a bag. Extremely bland. NO flavor. The sauce they serve it with tasted like a bland store bought jar item. Terrible. Now the sliders: equally as bad. They served three chicken tenders covered with red sauce between a bun with a minute amount of sprinkled parmigan cheese on top that fell right off when picked up. The sauce was trash and there was no cheese. Overall this was a piss poor experience. The grumpy gal was more interested in people she knew at the end of the bar than attending to customers. Not the best experience here. First impression was bad. Waited at the host stand with no one there until we were greeted with the hostess/server for our table coming from the back chewing food. Walking down the Church Street Mall the C S T was a great place to grab dinner. The place has a great vibe inside, but we chose to eat outside to enjoy the beautiful evening weather. Allagash beers hit the spot, and the Rueben's that we ordered and the general consensus was that they were best we ever had, they came with a choice of sides, and the three of us that ordered them chose onion rings, these rings were a very generous portion, and were greaseless and very delicious. I also ordered a cup of French onion soup that was very tasty. A house salad came out very nicely presented, along with a really flavorful raspberry vinaigrette. Stopped in on a slow Monday night. Place has a very typical bar scene, bare bones but clean. A level above a dive bar but not really a pub. The service very good as was the beer list and taste. We started with wings and French onion soup. The soup was a surprising 7.6 and the wings a nice 7.7. Good crisp, could have used more sauce. The FOS was hot and flavorful! We also split a spicy chicken wrapped which was not very good. Wasn't spicy at all and really lacked flavor. Overall it's a good bar but not great for dinner. Atmosphere in the inside is great, I love the set up of the place. I've never had to wait long for a table. The food is pretty decent nothing to brag about. I've gone twice, the first time the food wasn't the best. I got the pulled pork sandwich and there was barely any meat. But, the second time I went, the food was much better. First the hostess was wonderful and very accommodating to one if the people in the group with a wheelchair. Our server was quick, courteous and nice. Unfortunately the food didnt deliver. I had a BLT which was fine, upcharge to the fries for $3 which had no flavor to them at all. The other 2 guests order Reubens which were pitiful. No sauerkraut and barely any meat for $17. We dined at this cute little spot while in Burlington for the night. Church Street Tavern is located right on the busy pedestrian street complete with outdoor tables. This is a fun spot to people watch! The cuisine is more of a pub fare, but the prices aren't terrible. Some of the restaurants on this street can be on the pricey side. Nice selection on the menu of appetizers, soups, deli sandwiches, hot dogs, hot sandwiches and more. I was actually not that hungry, but my traveling companion was so I ended up ordering a small salad. Service was a little slow, but not terrible. The service was good besides the fact our waitress couldn't care less that we could hear her trash talking our whole group from only a few feet away. The atmosphere felt stuffy and it was incredibly hard to get anyone servings attention to order even a water. After we had finished the waitress handed us a bill and we asked if it could be split and she rolled her eyes at us- then proceeded to complain that we hadn't done offered to tip (we did have a tip we were planning to leave on the table) and we could hear her complaining about the ketchup bottle which she had to refill only because it exploded on me. My family LOVED the potato skins which were very unique. The rest of the food was average. How did you know we were in your section, if you never saw us.. but let's forget that for a second.. back to the hostess stand? My friend and l had lunch today. We sat outside. There wasn't a wait which was great. The day was perfect for outdoor dining. We ordered our drinks. My friend received their drink. Our server came up and said did the other server tell you that we couldn't get the tap to work for your drink. The server then asked if I wanted something else. They took our order. Our order was pretty easy, but l did notice they didn't write it down. After a pretty long wait our order came out. My order was wrong, so l took it inside and just told the other server that it isn't what l ordered and l waited so long that l wasn't interested in another order. My friend ate most of their sandwich, which they said wasn't so great. I asked our server for some napkins. They brought one. I ordered a cheesesteak and soup while my friend got a pulled pork sandwich! I won't speak for him, but my sandwich was suuuuuper dry. Like, choke it down dry. We left in a hurry, as we still had to pack for the next days travel to Boston. That said, I'm pretty sure our server charged me for the entire table's (4 people) meals. For two sandwiches, a single small draft, and a water, my bill was $37! I didn't think about it at the time since we were rushed, but looking back, I definitely (and maybe our other two friends at the table as well) over paid and over tipped. If I was still in Burlington I might be able to take time out of my day to walk back in, but I'm not. I'm pissed that a $25 (max) evening turned into over $40. The food and service were good. The problem came when settling the bill. There was an extra upcharge marked "fry" on the bill. Andrew, the server, explained that when my wife substituted a salad for kohl slaw. they upcharged the salad and the fries. Fries were already part of her order so there was no need for us to make a "fry" substitution. Perhaps it wasn't explained clearly on the menu, or I didn't read it correctly, but it should have been expressed correctly prior to my receiving the bill. I paid the upcharge rather than continuing to argue with Andrew. Next time my wife and I come to Burlington we won't be stopping at Church Street Tavern. read more

A great place to dine outside on Church St or have some beers and bar food inside on chilly days. Servers are always very nice, casual, and down to earth. Food is what you'd expect from a "tavern." Nachos and wings are a local favorite. Chicken sandwich is good. I was happy with my salad. Bottles of wine are $19 or $22! Had to come in and try the Tavern under new ownership. The mozzarella sticks were so good! I also tried the wings and the burger which I enjoyed a lot. The atmosphere was enjoyable and lively. I would recommend coming here for sports games and small gatherings. Don't forget to grab a catamount beer, they're amazing. Which is fine. But then I look over at the staff/ kitchen staff and people are laughing at my reaction to the wings. Like, c'mon you childish stains.
