We've been frequenting Church's Chicken in central Pomona, pinned on the corner of Mission and Hamilton in Pomona, for most if not all of our 26yrs in Diamond Bar. So count us among the multiple dozens -perhaps even hundreds- of semi-local residents who were crestfallen when it shuttered, around DEC of 2024. So when my youngest son the 21yr old and I started jonesing last night for the best-in-the-industry honey butter rolls and mashed potatoes w/ gravy, we turned our hungry gazes to the internet...and were pleasantly surprised to see that P-town had another Church's way over on the far East side of the town, nestled on the corner of Holt and Towne. We ordered the Ten Piece Special (legs only), a large tub of their mashed potatoes and gravy and sextet of their signature honey butter biscuits. And because it was my first time deploying Church's app, we were treated to a free 3-piece order of tenders, served with a side biscuit and a duo of jalapeños. The service was, though delayed, otherwise sharply on point! The young lady offered me a free Coke while I waited eight minutes after my arrival. Bravo for her gracious, sweet gesture. She explained that this particular location experienced a lot of canceled orders, therefore they don't start prepping the orders (even those placed online) til the client arrives. My bill, for 13 pieces of fried chicken, 16oz of mashed potatoes/gravy and 7 biscuits was $34.13 incl taxes. Most definitely not the lower prices that Church's usta be famous for! Unexpected benefit of Church's longer wait times? The fried chicken is piping hot, juice geysering outtve each bite while the crackling skin makes for a wondrous textural counterpoint. Pro Tip #1- Order the spicy chicken! It's not too spicy but is vastly more flavorful than the original recipe which is a bit boring from a flavor perspective. Pro Tip #2- Be patient! Even though the website said our order would be ready at 8:05pm, I was told "Five to ten more minutes, please" when I arrived at 8:12. Now I recognize this falls under "First World Problem," but let's just say that my 8-minute wait in the parking lot of the Church's was a visual, um, torrent of the city's seedy, squalid underbelly. My heart hurt for the pair of homeless residents, likely gorked outtve their minds on their drug of choice, pushing their worldly possessions in tired old carts. Catacorner from the venue, you could see streetwalkers arrayed in brightly festooned, tightly fitting trampy garments, plying their bodies with apparent gusto but undoubtedly barren souls, within. When the rain started lightly falling just as I was receiving my order, I remarked to myself, "These are surely the tears of a neighborhood that cries itself to sleep." read more

Texas style chicken vs Louisiana Popeyes, it was tough for me, but I think I like Church's better! My 4 kids and I all ate here and all felt sick after the fact. Some threw up and others experienced diarrhea. It's 9pm on a Monday night, they close at 10p. Only 3 people eating inside. The place is small. We go through the drive thru to pickup some chicken to take home from our long day. Today I tried the new bone in wings at Church's. They were incredible! If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend that you do. My favorite was the hot honey lemon pepper, but I also really like the original. The buffalo were ok, but not as good as the other two that I tried. I love the fried okra, and the hot biscuits with added honey were perfect. They are running sales on the wings right now so I'd advise you to go get yours. They were delicious. read more

Open & operating during COVID19! How do I say this... I don't review fast food places but I thought his location deserves a good shout-out for the amazing service and food! I usually go to the location in Monrovia, CA but I thought, why not try Pomona's location? I am so glad I did! I got this meal to-go to take home for my brother's birthday. I also got a liter for lemonade. All very well-priced. The employees there are very helpful and sweet as well :) Since I never ordered a liter of lemonade before, they were happy to explain to me what was offered if I wanted a bigger drink for more people. The chicken and okra was made fresh and was dare I say - better than the Monrovia location! Fried chicken basically runs in my blood so I was a happy girl haha! My family enjoyed it as well. The chicken was great as always but I had to write this for the service. It really goes to show - if the customer is nice, the service is too! I got charged over $200 when at the Baldwin Park location they only charged me $149 for the same order. BIG DIFFERENCE. I asked them as to why their prices are different, and he told me because different counties have price differences which doesn't make sense because both are in LA County. Yes, it's located in the I.E. Hood but I have been going to this place for over 20 years. Their chicken is a solid 4 stars. Maybe their service it's just to par but what you expect from a fast food. The two persons work there today were nice and courteous. The guys even apologized for the delay. Heck! It was just about 3 minutes to get my order - that is fast in my dictionary. Every single time I come to this location, they can never hear me at the speaker even when I'm shouting as loud as I can and I always end up having to go to the window to give my order. The drive thru moves really slowly here too, but not because there's ever a lot of people on line. Even when there's two cars in front of us, it takes 20 minutes to get to the speaker. They also barely give any packets of honey. I ask for a handful and they always give me like 3 or 4 packets which is not enough for a 10 piece chicken family combo. There was only one time where an employee actually gave us 10 packets of honey. I didn't get her name - I just remember she had pretty green eyes. There was also a time when we went about 30 minutes before close and because we know their drive thru always takes so long, we tried to go inside the restaurant to order, but their front door was locked. The employees just looked over at us trying to open the door and they did nothing. So we ended up going through the drive thru and they had no more fried chicken available.. what? It's Church's. It's freaking good. 3.5 stars. Great chicken especially the spicy chicken. Their biscuits are a the stand out. They are better than other chicken place's biscuits. I make everyone try their biscuits and everyone ends up agreeing. Best biscuits ever! The service...well it's fast food service. Don't expect a lot and make sure you count your change. So here's an update on an order that I picked up a couple of days ago. I went through drive-through 9 o'clock at night picked up a five piece meal two sides in a biscuit for 10 bucks but the guy in drive-through was like you can't get macaroni and cheese or okra. It's not a classic side So all I could get was mashed potatoes and gravy and coleslaw which I don't really care for and when I got home, they didn't put the two biscuits in the box So I called back I talk to Marie... Oh, sorry when you come back, we'll give you two biscuits. and I thought to myself that's not gonna work So I called back I talk to Marie and I said you know what I just want a refund and she said well she can't do that and I said well can you just remake my order? Church's is good when they get your order right. Chicken sandwich tastes a bit like budget Popeye's and their mash potatoes tastes the same as KFC's to me. My rating for fast food places is usually pretty lax, but I do expect the order to at least be correct. I'd probably revisit and double check my to-go order before leaving the store next time. read more

I stopped by here for national fried chicken day and was craving some fried chicken. I found an excellent coupon online for a 12 piece meal with 2 large sides and 4 biscuits for only $12.99. NOWHERE on the coupon does it say it must be printed. I showed the guy my coupon and he said that it needed to be printed and that they do not have that deal anyways and that all day people have been coming in trying to redeem that coupon. I said it's because it was offered on the site. I ordered the spicy and it was quite spicy!! For my sides I got a large mashed potatoes and small mac and cheese. Both were pretty good. The biscuits however are the real winner. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and the butter and honey on top was addicting. Parking here is a though one. Only a few parking spots, but there is a drive-through. I personally would rather order from here and take it home to eat. It was hot inside the place and not the cleanest looking. Also, the area does not look like the best area. I think it's safer to take your food home and eat it. In the end, I would come here again for fried chicken.
