Oh my goodness!!! I think I found the golden chicken location located here in Pomona, CA that have the secret recipe to the most golden, crunchiest, and juiciest fried chicken I've ever had!! I mean that in the most genuine way and I didn't even need any sauce or additional seasoning to cover any imperfections. Donahoo's is a small mom and pop shop with generous amount of food for very reasonable price. They only take orders in person and online so no phone orders! This is the original Donahoo location and has been around for 80 years. The turnover is incredibly fast, so it's the perfect spot if you need to get in and out quickly without sacrificing quality. They use the same recipe for both their bone-in and boneless chicken, and while both are super flavorful and crispy, I personally liked the bone-in just a bit more. They have sauce available, but the chicken is so seasoned and crunchy that it's honestly great without it. Nothing fancy, takeout only joint that serves good old-fashion American fried chicken with simple seasonings, yet very flavorful. The mixture of oils that they fry the chicken in is their secret on why the chicken is so good. My guess is some type of animal fat, but I could be wrong... or right. :) Each chicken meal/combo comes with their made in-house buttered rolls and fries. I got the medium sized deluxe combo. It fed 5+ people with legs and thighs, chicken strips, steak fries, 4 fresh yeast rolls and a side of coleslaw. All this for just under $50. This is a local perennial favorite in the downtown area of Pomona. It's been here for a long time so it's old. It's not nice or trendy in terms of ambience but the food slaps. Ok I went based on the reviews, and I must it didn't meet my expectations. I was under the impression I was going to wanna plant a kiss on that sweet old guy at the counter. The chicken itself taste real not fillers but t lacked real essence of seasoning along with the steak fries that I had wished were fried a bit harder ( my personal taste) but since it didn't come with any ketchup I figured they must go heavier with seasoning but NO they didn't. So I had so dryish barely salted fries and a gigantic roll. The roll was obviously freshly made based on its appearance I say add some honey to your batter and really crisscross the flavor palettes. The menu is straightforward: chicken, gizzards, fries, sides, drinks. I ordered the 4 piece chicken w/ fries and rolls and the 8 piece gizzards, I spent about $25. The chicken was alright, it also wasn't the best I've had. The IG guy might've hyped it a little too much. There wasn't much seasoning on the bird and it wasn't very crunchy. The chicken was moist and not dry like it had been sitting under a light for a long time. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a solid 6 because it did what it needed to do. For the gizzards, I'd give them a 3. I was hoping for a differed breading than the chicken but it was the same. They were super chewy, had excess grease, and also lacked seasoning.
